I will be the first to say he had a bad night but the only time Howard didnt go nuts for a 5 minute span in the third quarter is when Lee was guarding him. Last year teams were face guarding him to keep him off the glass. The difference this year is he isnt going to get a lot of minutes. Here is a guy that IT gave up draft picks instead of Lee and has numerous trade offers for him. WHy would you bring in a guy at his position when you needed a three man that could guard people? If Lee had a bad night with 4 rebounds in 20 minutes what do you call Curry night of three rebounds in 35 minutes?
Are you suggesting that Lee start over Curry?

Also what you are saying could go either way. Example the Cavs game. I felt Isiah had Curry on the bench too to play Lee. Curry was abusing Big Z yet Isiah pulled Curry out to play Lee.

There is nothing wrong with Lee, he is playing well and I'm surprised people are starting to think otherwise.

You aren't seeing him stand out as much as last season because he isn't getting as many minutes. If or when Isiah finally decides to give Lee more minutes, you will see that impact he had last season. Don't worry about David, worry about our defense because it is pathetic.

No what I am saying is you wont win with Curry and Randolph playing side by side for a whole year. They are the exact same type of players. What I am saying you get rid of Lee because no one wants Zach or Curry because of the contracts and you bring a big time SF in. I am saying it was nuts to bring in Zach when you needed perimeter help and it will cost the Knicks a chance on the 09 free agent class because you added another bad contract.

I agree King.

As much as I like Lee, I think if we are only going to play him 23 mpg and diminish his value, we are better off selling high right now.

Good teams would covet Lee because he will be a good defender in this league. Doesnt need shots, will rebound, and takes care of the ball. Those things are important to good teams stat are important to bad teams. Funny how the Olympic team thought enough of him to practice with them in the summer.

I don't think it was nuts to bring in Zach. Zach is an upgrade at that spot. As far as the sf position. We do need an upgrade or a change in the lineup. I still would like to see what Chandler can do.

As far as Curry, he does not have a big contract for a big man. In a sense he might be under paid. YOu have guys like Larry Hughes who are not centers getting paid like 12 mil. IF Curry was a free agent on the market I guaranteed he would get paid more that what the Knicks are paying him. Curry is making about 8 mil something this year for a center. Do you remember that we use to pay Luc Longley ?

Dampier is getting paid more than Curry and Dallas does not even use him.

Big C tell me this why was Portland dumb enough to give Zach away for Channing Frye? Because they didnt win with him there, he got arrested every year and has a large contract. It is about building a team not getting the best collection of talent. We are paying Curry 8 million dollars for about 10 shots a game because Zach is getting 20 a game. Curry isnt going to rebound or block shots so I would say 8 million is over paid and I thought he signed 6 years 60 million. To win each player must have roles and no one on this team wants them. We have a bunch of starters that need lots of shots to score, and none that put a emphasis on taking care of the basketball, and defense.

Zach has been playing pretty well so far in terms of doing what he does best.

Consequently, I don't want this to sound too harsh, but is it me, or does Zach seem like a stat whore?

When him and Lee are on the court, I notice both of them going up for a rebound and even if Lee is there first, Zach seems willing to rip the ball from his hands so that he can get the rebound. Add to that he never seems to pass the ball when he has the ball in the low post (although to his credit, he had some nice passes to Curry from the high post in the Orlando game).

Not trying to act like a hater or anything, but just wondering if he seems to rub anyone else that way.

Zach is going to get his. He is a perfect fit on this team he will shoot 45% from the field which is awful for a big man. He will turn the ball over and he wont guard anyone. I dont think he steals rebounds but I do think he is going to get his points.

Portland wanted Zach out like they wanted Rasheed out. Portland is a team that wanted to clean house. That means everyone must go including the waterboy. Go look at how much other guys are making putting up Zach's numbers. You will notice they get paid about the same about. Back to Curry do you really think he is getting over paid with a 60 mil contract? This is the same league where Juawan Howard got close to 100 mil. Shawn Kemp got about 100 mil. Curry is getting paid about 8 mill something this year. 60 mil does not mean you get 10 mil every year it is spreaded out.

Now back to Lee besides trading him what else do you think he should be used? Also as far as defense do you think the players are not trying to play defense? Or are they not skilled to play defense?

The reason I asked is you can go to the park right now and have a mind to play hard nose defense but if you are not skilled enough it will not happen. Also why do you think Lee's defense is any better than Zach's?

I dont care what other players make Zach got traded because he was a cancer to this team. The last time he was on bereavement leave he was at the strip bars and walking out on bills. I think Lee is and will be a much better defensive player than Zach. A football coach told me the first 58 minutes talent wins the last 2 character wins. I dont think Zach is a character guy. I love the way he plays the game I just dont think he will do the little things to win.

A stat whore? Would you rather him be passive? Like the Nuggets game. Zach wanted the ball and deliever in the clutch. I rather have a player that wants the ball the ball than a player that runs away from the ball.

Now to Lee and Zach, I see to players working hard for a rebound. Would you rather him stand there and not try to get a rebound.? When you are jumping for a rebound you don't have time to look all the time to see who you are fighting to get a rebound from. I have seen Balkman and Lee fight over a rebound also. Do have a problem with Balkman doing that? Or is just Zach?

We lost to a very good, talented and well coached team. Orlando will be in the top 4 of our conference. We have to business beating them.

Beat the Heat, a team we are supposed to beat when they are as injury depleted as they are and we are 3-2 and a solid playoff team at the moment. All we have to do is the bad teams, and take half of our games against average teams and we will make the 6-8 playoff spot.

Our offense is good enough to do that. If we could play any defense, we would one of the better teams. We might be a a couple of moves away from balancing the roster. I'm willing to give IT a shot at it this year and next off season because at this point, we are such a mess that one year really does not make any difference anymore.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Zach is an interesting guy, in the way many go to guys on bad teams are. What you love about them can be the same thing you hate about them. Zach is used to being milked on the offense, as such he is fearless - a trait that I admire, in the same way I admired Marbury's relentless drives early in his time here.

But even guys like MJ and Kobe are challenged to learn how to blend their teammates into the fold. The challenge is to be opportunistic, not mindless.

Often times such players can't be counted on to give it up, and it's required that an orchestrator is given the larger role of setting cues and determining distribution.

One of the big troubles on this team is everyone is in training at the same time. Our distributors are know more knowledgeable or intuitive than our "stat whores". Sometimes they are one in the same.

There are a couple of guys on this team I think understand the game, namely Mardy, Balkman and Lee. But in the case of Mardy that sense is based on a very small sample size and his knees are already a concern from being worn down on said small sample size. And in the case of Balkman and Lee, their role player status (due to a lack of dimension in their offense) limits the impact of their abilities.

It was true when Larry said it and it's still true today. We don't have a head out there.

Good question.

This team might get the same results they are getting now if they had a lineup of Balkman at the sf to replace Q. Q might be the biggest problem in the lineup right now.

so we are comparing

Curry
Zach
Balkman

To
Curry
Lee
Artest

I can't really say that either because Q is so bad that Artest looks like a good fit. I rather have Curry, Zach, and Balkman or Chander in the frontcourt.

Would you trade Lee for Artest? Reason I ask is it does not look like Zach or Curry are going anywhere.

That is not what I'm saying at all. Of course I would want a talented PF to want the ball in key situations. What I'm saying is, to me, it seems like there are situations where he seems intent on getting his. One play especially stood out to me during the preseason against Maccabi Elite. There was essentially a 2 on 1 and Zach went to the basket against a defender instead of making a pass to Lee who was going baseline and would have had an easy dunk. Zach made the shot but it didn't make sense to me why he would take a shot like that instead of dumping it to a wide open Lee.

With the rebounds, I see Lee right there ready to make the rebound with no players on the other team really threatening to take it away, and Zach will come and basically grab it even though Lee is right there. Of course you want both guys to fight for the rebound, but you also don't want them to actually FIGHT for it and cause the ball to go out of bounds or to the other team. That doesn't happen cause Lee will give in to Zach in those situations. But it makes me wonder if this has to do with Zach's personality and has anything to do with why the Blazers wanted him gone.

I think Lee, Artest and Curry is a much better fit and you dont have a 65 million dollar contract to worry about paying. Everyone say Balkman and Lee are role players due to the offensive limitations. Why arent Curry, Crawford, ansd Zach role player due to their defensive limitations

Good points.
The Blazers were tried of the their old image so therefore everyone had to go. You really get blame them. I mean their team was referred to as the Jailblazers. You can't get worse than that. Notice how no one will use that term now.

As far as Zach, I also think that great rebounders do things like that. Mason and Oakley use to fight for rebounds do all the time. Look at Dennis Rodman. He had a mentality that he was going to get every rebound. No one was going to stop him including teammates. A player will be set back trying to assume that his teammate is the one he is fighting for a rebound with. NOt to mention when you get a rebound your team has to get the ball down the court as fast as they can. Good coaches will tell their players don't let anyone take the ball from you. And I mean no one.
