Surely Houston would come off the bench and play limited minutes, assuming he's able to play at all.

Someone should stop Isiah from completely ruining the Knicks. Not that I dislike Houston, its that we already have a serious roster situation with Nichols and Jordan and now we add Houston? Isiah, you better be ready to tell us you will waive Jerome and Rose...

at least he can hit the open 3- but we don't need another slow footed, weak perimeter defender, do we?

Let's just remember one thing... THIS IS AN OFFENSIVE TEAM!!! PERIOD! Yeah, we want to play more D, but let's be real folks. The starters aren't gonna get much better defensively. Our bench has loads of defenders and few pure shooters, so H2O fits a need. If he can actually move and is pain free, then he'd be an asset. He couldn't really stop anyone before, so what's the difference now? He can be out there with more of our defensive minded players and that would balance out his lack of foot speed.
Again if he can play a limited role we all know that he's lights out when he can go into his motion without intense pain. I think that's really the only thing that slowed him down. Pure shooters never lose their stroke and he wasn't fast or athletic to begin with. Give him a screen or a wide open jumper and he'll make teams pay. So I say let's give this a chance and hope that he's got something left, cuz he could help.

Jamal also said this about him:

“He was moving great,” Crawford said. “We were playing full court and nobody was holding anything back. He was guarding Wilson [Chandler, the Knicks’ first-round pick] that day and Wilson’s a young, energetic guy. And he did a good job. I was surprised at how good he was moving.”

"Someone should stop Isiah from completely ruining the Knicks."

No matter what. Isiah is The Debbil and this move must be evil.

Even Allan Houston.

Allan Houston sucks. One of my least favorite Knicks ever. Seems like every day Isiah adds another player to this roster who I hate.

Marbury, Curry, Crawful, James, Randolph, J Rose, Frankenstein, and now Houston. UNREAL!!!

OMFG this is HELL.

Papabear Says

Lets give it a chance. Or will you stop rooting for them.

“It’s all respect,” Thomas said last week. “He was a great Knick, and he wants to come back and give it a shot. So it’s out of respect.”

"If he's that good, I mean if he's the Allan Houston that we know and we haven't seen him in a while but if he's that good a player, we want good players," Thomas said after practice. "If we're in a position where a player can help us, we definitely will look at him and make room for him."

There is no way this does not end up bad. Either Houston is done and does not make the team, which will be an embarrassment for him and the Knicks, or he shows a little something and we have to cut Nichols and Jones, which I think hurts the team in the long run. I simply cannot believe that Houston can comeback at anything more than 75% of what he was. We have 12 friggin' players that need minutes already and if you keep Houston, you have to give him 5-10 minutes a game, which only adds to the logjam. This is going to end with Houston and the Knicks being embarrassed. The only way it works out is if Houston actually can play at a high level, but I don't see that happening.

I love it. Houston is high BBIQ, high character, high effort player. One of the best shooters in the game. Obviously they worked him out and he's in great shape. Its just a matter of endurance. I wish him well

Personally, I would start him. Having him on the floor to start with Curry and Zach is the right place. Then you bring in the uptempo guys for the 2nd unit.

Start him at SF or at SG instead of Jamal?

Fred Jones sucks. He's not doing anything to impact this team. Jerome James brings nothing. There's two spots right now.

I love Allan, happy to see him back, hope he does well.

Of course there are a lot of questions surrounding his ability to play - but you have to respect the guy and he if he can play he will help us tremendously.

C'mon Game - if Houston does not make the team he can retiire with a clesr conscience that he gave it his best shot.

If he makes the team it will have been because someone thinks he can help the Knicks win basketball games, just like the other 14 final selects.

The only people who will be embarrassed are the self-proclaimed experts who can predict the future

Check out your mind

Silverfuel - the perception of Allan Houston as some guaranteed albatross is curious. Certainly, everyone loves the possiblity of yoot, but if Allan actually CAN play) (and we know he can shoot) why is there such hand-wringing over what amounts to a try-out?
Whatever he brings is a bonus. A plus. An opportunity that he could have taken elsewhere and the instant he makes a jumper for the Nets people are screaming, "fire Isiah"

Can you remember the days when the last man on the bench was David Wingate?

Yes, I believe we were mowing our way through the Eastern Conference playoffs and battling the Spurs for a title.

Allan Houston Meets The Mayor

"We were playing full-court and he was guarding Wilson [Chandler] - Wilson's a real energetic guy - and did a good job. I was surprised how good he was moving."

Inside The Numbers

mins played: spontaneous minutes when the Knicks offense needs a jolt
position: at John Starks Memorial shooting guard (and we know he can shoot)
fg%: dependable enough to extend the defense to the 3 point arc
free throw%: automatic
assists: free suit and tie advice for the rookies
ppg: irrelevant, because if he makes nearly half his shots in The Garden the fans will love him

intangibles: imagine it's the year 2019 and David Lee at 36 years old, requests a tryout from the Knicks to attempt a comeback from arthritis after a 2 year layoff...

TheGame/Silverfuel/Knicksfan/bippity - Should Knicks GM Mark Jackson invite Lee to training camp or block the door?
