nyk, looks like ATL may trade Salty to TEX in a Mark Texieria package

http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/mlb/news/trade_deadline/index_07.jsp
Mark Teixeira
Mark Teixeira, who averaged 35 homers and 113 RBIs in his first four seasons in the big leagues, has drawn plenty of attention from clubs on the hunt for a slugging first baseman. With the Yankees among the suitors finding the price too high, the Braves have reportedly come on strong. Atlanta would likely center a package around rookie catcher/first baseman Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Man that sucks, he's being traded for Teixiera too. Salty is going to be a stud and trust me when Jorge leaves we are going to be stuck because its very hard to find a catcher that gives the production and leadership like Jorge has given us. When you look around the league there is only about 7 really good hitting catchers, its a tough thing to find.

Edit: I'm not directing this post at you TMS like you dont want Salty. I'm just saying in general.

i think Jorge's still going to be good for another 2-3 seasons at the very least... by then maybe Salty will be eligible for free agency & we can go steal him away from whereever he ends up.

I will say this right now in response to Eny's actualy thread title.

I have a feeling things are going to heat up real soon for one reason and one reason alone (atleast for Yanks fans) because there is absolutely nothing better than having a bigtime pitching prospect come up and make starts in his first season. I know for one that I was counting down the days inbetween Hughes first few starts. Now with Hughes coming back that same excitement will be back. Awesome.

Nice to see Joba bounce back from a bad start. The guy looks to be an absolute monster.

And Texeira looks like he's going to Atlanta. Let the Mets worry about him.

Yankees blow open their game, Red Sox lose to the Indians.

Good night all around.

yanks look to win tonight. the sox lost so the yankees are now 6 games back in the AL east, still 4.5 back in the wildcard.

but look at this august schedule:

@chi (3)
kc (3)
@tor (3)
@cle (3)

bal (3)
det (4)
@laa (3)
@det (4)
bos (3)

look at those last 14 games...jeez louise.

After that though, September is a cakewalk. And Cleveland has a much tougher schedule.

What do you all think of Giambi coming back? Why do I have a nasty and terrible feeling about that. Our chemisty is at an all time high, the way it was last season, with Philips at first and Cabrera/Abreu/Matsui in the OF and Damon on the bench. If this happens, the outfield defense downgrades severely, the risk of Damon getting hurting himself again or more increases, and his production goes down again, and it's not like Cabrera was doing poorly at the plate either, not to mention he's a good baserunner.

I really don't see much good with the comeback of Giambi, besides a homerun or 2 now and then.

It's good the Yanks are mowing through these teams though. We need to store up the wins, not to mention the confidence, through this absolutely brutal August schedule coming up.

PS: The news about Hughes and Chamberlain is huge.

i have a feeling it's going to be a negative overall, just like Sheff's return kinda screwed up the chemistry last season when he came back.

i dont think giambi is going to be anything more than a pinch hitter or a starter when there is a guy going who he has good #'s against. or maybe he'll start games and come out in the 5th inning after his 2nd AB and they'll go with phillips?

either way, i don't see them messing with this rotation (phillips @ 1B, damon occasionaly at CF, LF, or DH rotating with cabrera and occasionaly matsui) which has them rolling harder than any offense in the league.

I don't see Giambi sitting.. he's just too good of a hitter.

Im shocked to see this thread has legs, lol.

As far as the yanks, cashman has to understand where the yanks are right now. Its called transition. It happened when jeter, mariano, Jorge, pettite, etc camp up from the farm. The yanks have an absolute monster pitching farm coming up. They need to stay away from trading any of them. They also need to shut down their free agent hunt for pitchers unless its in relief.

Also what is the obsession with 1st base? Giambi should be the dh, period. Andy philips has proven every time he goes out there that he is the man at first. What happened to Doug M.? What a terrible signing!!!! What was that for? Andy philips needs to be the fixture there and with a guy like shelly Duncan showing he can produce power then why is their this nerd to get a guy like texeria? Fuck texeria!!!! Yanks don't need him.

Yankees have to build their chemistry back and stop the search for the playststion line-up. The guys that are out there right now are having fun and are feeding off each other. That's what its all about.

In other words, yanks need to shut it down and ride it out. They absolutely do not need texeria at this time or ever!

eny, not only do the Yanks not need Texiera, but they don't need Giambi. 1 to 9, everyone is at least a good hitter, and then you have Shelly coming off the bench and Cairo for emergency defensive situations. Adding in Giambi, only to seat Cabrera, maybe adds in a run or 2 every few games, when we already score a lot, but it F's up the defense, not to mention Damon's health, not to mention Cabrera's confidence. There is really no good about Giambi coming back. He has little to no place on this team.

Giambi as the dh. That's it. Other than that he screws up everything.

Why? that's all you can sat about the yanks.

Why did they sign Damon? Cabera was on the come up at the time. He was struggling a little but with matsui as an option and Bernie still an option at the time, why the **** did they feel they needed to sign Damon?

Doug M.? Why? To platoon? That was the dumbest thing I ever heard. The guy has been hurt, buy even if he is healthy the guy isn't a theat and his defense is not all that. Andy philips has bee around forever. He could have just taken the everyday duties and call up shelly Duncan like I said earlier.

Why the **** did the yanks go after that new Asian guy? You can always use pitching if the same thing as saying defense wins championships in basketball. Its all bull****. The yanks have 4! At least 4 starters in their farm system. That's incredible. Pettite whould walk too. No more rocket! Mussina needs to go. What is his contract status?

Ching ming Wang is the ace of this staff. Yanks have to go after Santana cuz he is a bad ass. After that the rest should be all farm kids.

Again this is just yank debate. Right now the yanks are in trouble. There is no greg oden to look forward to if they miss the playoffs. Yanks have to make their move. It will only get intersting till the end of august. The teams they are beating now? They are supposed to best them!!! Come on man, the Uk bastards can beat some of these teams the yanks are playing. Boring!!!

So what to do? These are truly the dog days of summer.

Moose's contract status = $11 million this year guaranteed / $11 million next year guaranteed / 10-5 player no trade rights

what a brilliant signing by Cash.

The problem is that Cash slipped a few decimals. He meant to pay Moose 11 cents and made it $11 million. I think most of us hated resigning Moose, though, if I remember, Bonn thought it was a good move. Tsk tsk, Bonn.

at least he managed to sign Igawa, so it wasn't a total loss.

Igawa has been great. He's a lefty; that's the important part. There's no other pitcher I'd rather have in there to give up 7 runs in 5 innings.

good thing we avoided signing guys like Ted Lilly (11-4, 3.46 ERA) & went with the much smarter option in Moose... we really dodged a bullet there... Moose at $22 million is a STEAL!!!
