No matter what he says it's gonna get bashed by people around here, so to me the blog is just more fodder for the many Steph haters out here.
In terms of what he's talking about in the future, why is that so bad? The guy is allowed to talk about whatever the heck he wants to. He like many other aging NBA players is seeing his basketball mortality and he's making the shift from that life to his next. It seems to me that he wants to be a crossover personality. I don't think he's gonna be that successful, perhaps he'll embarrass himself like Bobby Brown and Whitney. It's his life.
As far as the Knicks go, I expect him to play hard and to do what he did for much of the season last year. Be a better team player. If he plays like that from day one I believe we'll have a great year. This is all that matters right now. I'm not even worried about his replacement yet. We'll sort that out in time. Right now I just want to see the team win.
I think most of us are really a lot closer than we think. YOu wish the same as the rest of us, but we like to laugh a little harder when he goes off.
He is really not much of a personality other than being a playfull dumb jock who is starting to see life as a 30 year old and that there are more important things. I did Italy a few years ago and had a wonderful time but it did not change my life. Why? My life has been more diversified and had both failure and success and had to deal with the intelectual side of both.
For Steph he likely has finally stepped out of his little cocoon and sees that there is more to life beyond the NBA. What I think he is trying to do now is get lots of people to like him and that makes him happy. Thats fine, but he really does not to have many people validate that in the big picture he is successful.
Sounds like he is burn't out and I don't expect much greatness left in him.
He seems like a very immature guy who is not very smart but earned a huge amount of money with his body and is growing up a bit. Remember he has also done this with not many people telling him "NO" so his ego must be huge. He's gonna sound stupid as he puts himself into new arenas of life and should just understand it takes time to be relevant outside the basketball court.
Lets get one thing straight, the man for his career can flat out play basketball and has earned a ton of money doing so. Nobody can dispute that. But he was a flawed team player. That we CAN argue.
Rodman became a crossover personality but was really painted a clown.
Nothing would please me more than Steph hoisting an MVP trophy with his name on it in JUNE 2008 or 2009!
