Is it maybe possible that Marbury's moronic attitude is the reason why many fans and journalists have turned on him over the years? He sounds like a complete idiot on most occasions and has never been interested in the team above his own personal achievements. These have been the main knocks on Marbury over the years and continue to be so. Just because he finally has a coach that he actually wants to put out some effort for over a short period of time does not erase everything. Any other talk of why Marbury is disliked is complete and utter BS, because it does not acknowledge the REAL reasons why Marbury is disliked. Face it, most criticism of Marbury is ACCURATE, which is the exact reason why it annoys the Marbury supporters so much, because they don't want to hear true criticism of Marbury that they can't defend, so they blame it on other things to divert the attention away from the real issues. It's the way of the apologist; the grossest example being the Marbury apologist. Like Marbury if you want, I don't care, but stop making excuses for why the guy is disliked.

Solace - why don't you check your personal bias against Marbury at the door and just watch him play basketball?

A complete idiot?

Not really Solace. You may not like his delivery, or his wardrobe, or the context his quotes are repeated over and over for people to throw rocks at....

... you may prefer your ballers to lean more towards the city slick cool of Derek Jeter, and that's your choice...

...but I don't know of many complete idiots who have the courage to develop an affordable product for the same needy kids who emulate professional ballers...

... or give significant amounts of money to noble causes like Katrina relief victims...

... give of his time in the underserved place he grew in in...

... and then turn around and bust 40 points against the best team in the league.

A "complete idiot" is a bit strong a definition for Stephon Marbury, even for a complete idiot

"I vow to never forgive Marbury for his past",

or...

“He was great tonight,” Thomas said. “This was the best basketball I’ve ever seen him play in this league. Mentally and physically, he’s been a rock.”

you decide

misterearl, wtf... what do any of your FOUR consecutive responses to me have anything to do with this article or with what I said? Do you even read people's posts before responding?

Oh wait, I forgot.

I can see plenty of correlation between discussion of Mabury's play last night and the article, actually. The point is that for some reason there are fans who will not give Steph credit, or find some justification for taking it away, whatever he does. Thus far, desipite his amazing game yesterday, and improved defensive play this season as well as other apparent improvements, we still find resistance to conceeding any kind of credit to him from many. Is it simply frustration or something else?

Andrew - why are you so quick to monitor posts in SUPPORT of the Knicks when you allow the insults and derrogatory remarks to slide?

There is so much anti-Knicks sentiment that is supported and encouraged here I feel like I'm on the freakin' crusades.

Solace - I don't agree with your statement that Marbury is a "complete idiot."

If that is too difficult for you to understand perhaps we shoudl end the dialogue right here

No

I think Marbury has walked in shoes that few understand or care to understand. Has he made mistakes? Of course he has. They have been well documented. But to cast Marbury as any type of idiot is an extreme he does not deserve.

Marbury is not Satan.

He is just a man.

Would you say that he has a very poor command of the english language? Do you think George Bush is an idiot?

Code - you know I love you like a red-headed step cousin on my Aunt Margaret's side of the family.

Fo' sho', the time Marbury spent on the playground he could have been studying the intricacies of style and syntax, but that's the way love goes. I don't think he has a foul heart, so I give him the benefit of the doubt EVEN WHEN he claims to be the world's best point guard.

Anyone who simply attaches more meaning to that statement never played pickup ball in the projects when dudes are smacking you upside the head on every drive to the hole. They don't really understand the determination, intensity and self-marketing, one must generate to get ON the court, let alone transcend that playground all the way to a Division 1 university.

Marbury has not cost any innocent people their lives.

George Bush on the other hand....

misterearl....don't assume that I'm monitoring....I was just pointing something out. I think the main issue most posters have with you is that you never really engage in a discussion that stays on topic. This thread is about the article. PresIke responded with a valid reason, and I can see his point (although I may not agree).

Do you see me monitoring any comments towards TrueBlue in the Marbury Is An Enigma thread? Fact is I'm hoping people can grow up on both sides because I don't have time or the care to deal with it.

The premise of the article was that Steph is not supported in general because he carries himself "like a nigga". If this is true, why is a player like Spreewell so supported and loved Knick fans. I'd really like to know what you think about that.

There a few posters that can never say anything positive about the Knicks. There are a few that can never say anything negative about the Knicks. A majority though have no problem giving credit is where it is due, or with being critical of a player. I think your crusade has you a little blind to that fact.

Earl you know I love you like my overweight, patch-eyed german shephard that I beat on the regular with a branding iron.

The comparison with Bush was to demonstrate how incompetence with language can lead to the generalized perception of a lack of intelligence. Can it be racially driven? Sure. But, as seen with Bush, it doesn't have to be. Its just a convenient (although somewhat flawed) method of evaluating intelligence.

Marbury's difficult childhood was obviously an obstacle in his education. But, despite this mitigating factor, you should still be able to observe his lack of education and how it has compromised his thought and communication skills.

PresIke, to respond further to your post...is it hard to believe that one season of complete effort in NY may not be enough to change people's minds about Steph? I personally am not convinced. I really supported the Steph trade thinking we were getting a player that would bring it every single night. For 3 seasons I was disappointed. This season I see a huge improvement, but I am not about to full on endorse Steph as a player that should be a large part of our future. Can you see my reasoning and think that it is a logical and rational train of thought?
