People of color have every right to feel suspicious and question what they believe to be race based favoritism given that this is a white male dominated society, the foundation of which is built largely off of racism.

I'm not going to veer this thread into a different direction, but to shrug your shoulders and say "so what" is a very white thing to do.

Its so common to see black players attached with the label of lazy and having "a low b-ball IQ". Black and White players are definitely viewed through different prisms by the media and the fans which is what SAS is referencing.

SAS is right to raise the issue. Perhaps he is wrong and off base on this particular issue, but he is right in raising what he believes to be a double standard. I appreciate SAS's black male perspectives, they are a much needed counterbalance. Shame that some people are intimidated by it, and feel he "plays the race card" (whatever the hell that means). Guess that is easier to say than engaging in mature dialogue.

Actually Sebstar I'm as black as black can be. I openly rooted for Magic Johnson over Larry Bird because Magic was black and Larry was White. I didn't hate Larry Bird. I had no ill will towards him. He was an overall great guy. But I rooted for the black guy. I didn't hang out with too many white guys back in the days but I'm pretty sure millions of them rooted for Larry because he is white. I root for players that have lesser abilities but worked their arses off to get to a higher level because I can relate to them. I root for short PG's with jumpshots because I am one of them. I root for peoplle that came from the hood but valued their education enough to actually get one because that's what I did. And I value guys that bust their ballse because that's what I do. If some white guy wants to root for a player because he is pale white, has red hair, comes from Ireland, drinks beer and grew up shooting jumpshots in the driveway of their Belle Aire mansion. So be it. Who cares.

You are missing the point. Neither Crawford, nor Q, nor Lee are being questioned for their injuries. But somehow Lee is being turned into an issue. Why? a mature discussion about race my friend does not have to agree with your opinion. A "black male perspective" does not have to agree with your opinion. One of the great things about being black in america today is that we can finally have diversity of opinion instead of constantly being pigeon holed into one line of thinking. The fact that I admit to you that I openly rooted for Magic because he was black just shows you that not all people that disagree with your "black male perspective" are afraid to discuss race.

I have suffered many injuries and currently suffering (fracture ankle). I never liked to give into my injuries and focus on my pain but you are right everyone doesn't have the same injuries or thesholds.

I wished these players could toughen up some.

Couple of things:

1) People have correctly pointed out that Lee is popular because of his effort and playing style. But it is impossible for us to say that Lee is popular *only* because of his effort and playing style, and that his race has no effect on his popularity. Maybe if Lee were black he wouldn't be quite so popular.

2) What people say about this issue is unreliable. That's not to say that people are outright lying, but rather that they may not be the best judge of what is forming their thought processes. Race may play some role in how people view players even if they don't realize it, and even if they don't want it to be true. See for instance:
