Curry's rebounding problem isnt technique though, its conditioning. Camby's skill improved. Under JVG he learned better fundamentals and with that wirey super long frame he became an elite rebounder. Curry's problem is he's fat and gassed so he mails it in on that end of the court.

If Curry can lose that weight I would say he could be a top 10 player in this league.

Watch Curry play when the opponent takes a shot. He never boxes out, just weakly sticks an arm out. I remember the first (or second) game against Boston, Gomes beat him to a ton of rebounds because Curry doesn't get his body on anyone.

Isnt it funny how Curry is supposed to block out the other teams center, pf and sf? Who was on Perkins or Jefferson? Was Gnomes tthe Celtics center?

barely played? What are you talking about? Dude almost won ROY and led the league in blocks his 2nd year.

Seriously, do you have any point at all to make?

I remember better than you do about Camby. He asked out of a game because he was winded and JVG benched him completely after that. It was in the first week of the season. JVG didnt like him because he didnt box out, and blew assignments constantly gambling to get blocks.

And yes, Grunfeld and JVG did fight about it, but he got fired because he traded Oak/Starks, and the Knicks could barely play .500 ball. Checketts had a choice, either fire the GM who assembled that group or the coach. He picked Ernie. The Knicks got hot late, BARELY made the playoffs as the 8th seed in the strike shortened season and went to the finals.

Yes.. JVG did not like Camby or his game when he got there, and thought he was soft.

When Camby was traded (only JVG coached him as a Knick) he was the starting center for JVG's Knicks and became one of the league's best rebounders WHILE PLAYING FOR JEFF VAN GUNDY.

Sorry, I was there. I dont need stats to tell me what I saw.

Now, which part of what I said isnt true?

Perkins didnt play

Eddy had a good "stat" game that night so can be happy for him.

That was the game where the Celtics blew us out in the first qtr and it wasnt a game after that. Remember, the Celtics were missing half their bigs and playing CBA guys. Yet we got used in the first half, didnt box anyone out, didnt guard anyone and laid down to a CBA team + Paul Pierce at home.

But Eddy had 30 or something so he's a star

yea.. I saw every minute of every game. You dont need to tell me.

Everyone knows JVG's job was saved by Houston's floater.

All I was saying that was while playing under JVG Camby when from being a weak below average rebounder to an elite one. Thats all I was saying man. If you want to call the fact that JVG's MO is defense and rebounding and Camby's astromical improvement there a total coincidence, than feel free. I was just stating facts.

This only came up because someone asked if any player who was a weak rebounder like Curry suddenly turned it around and became a great one. My response was that Camby did while playing for JVG. Just the facts kid.

well, you said he "barely played at all early in his career." Your wrong about that.. he played plenty. He was also benched and only played sporaticlly his first year with the Knicks.

Holfresh... why dont you say something here. Why dont you make a point about something, anything....

Jeffferson played center that night not Gnomes. So curry is supposed to cover both guys? Curry did have 12 rebounds that night but I guess they dont count either. If curry is as bad as you say he is why dont we just cut him? He sounds like the worst center in the nba...make that the worst player period according to you

show me where I say how bad Curry is. Oh wait.. you cant, cause you hear what you want to hear.

How do you know Jefferson played center? A minute ago you thought it was Perkins. So what did you do? Look up the box score and decide how the game went? Good one

Did Al play all night?

Maybe you should read the posts you reply to? I asked who played Center Perkins/Jefferson meaning Perkins or Jefferson because I knew Gnomes wasnt the center so he wasnt currys man. I never said it was Perkins. I watched every second of that game but did not remember off hand which game people were speaking about. I thought Jeferson played very well also that game and that lineup was hardly a udbl lineup. Just more hater speak. Jefferson was a #1 pick. so was Pierce, Telfair and Allen. Piecre is a perenial MVP candidate.

You dont say curry is bad? Wow thats really BS. You bash him daily.

Fish and I definitely haven't said Curry's bad overall. I've said he's bad at everything other than low post scoring, which he's awesome at. That's not the same thing as simply calling him bad, though.

#1 picks? You mean first rounders? What the are you saying? That we are overmatched against Telfair, Allen and Al Jefferson?

I bash Curry daily? Am I bashing him when I say we should trade Frye to better build around him? Am I bashing him when I say I would rather have him over Boozer? Over Dalembert? I almost always pick Curry in those "who would you rather have" threads.

As usual you read and hear what you want.

You said they were a udbl team/ sorry 4 first round picks starting plus Gnomes a good 2nd round pick is not a udbl team. Telfair was just traded for a high first round pick. Pierce is a MVP candidate guy every year. But if you can bash Curry or the Knicks they are now UBDL guys. Sure. :)

From watching the games, it's clear to me that Curry doesn't attempt to box out opponents. And yes sometimes rebounding means boxing out so that others (like forwards) can't get to the ball by clogging the lane. Of course another way of being a good rebounder is being aggressive and getting the ball yourself, not waiting for it to come to you.

So Its currys job to box out the other teams Center and pf at the same time? Our pf has no responsibility to guard his own man (gnomes)? Interesteing. Its pretty amazing that the Knicks despite curry sucking so bad are one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA. after listening to you guys I really think Curry should be cut asap. Its obvious you guys know more about the game than the nba coachs. By the way how much are you paod for your player evaluations. More or less than isiahs 10 mill a year?

Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow, black and white
They are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world

Everything is beautiful in its own way
Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter's day
Everybody's beautiful in their own way
Under God's heaven the world's gonna find a way

There is none so blind as he who will not see
We must not close our minds we must let our thoughts be free
For every hour that passes by, you know the world gets a little bit older
It's time to realize that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder

Everything is beautiful in its own way
Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter's day
Ah, sing it children, everybody's beautiful in their own way
Under God's heaven the world's gonna find a way

We shouldn't care about the length of his hair or the color of his skin
Don't worry about what shows from without but the love that lives within
We gonna get it all together now and everything's gonna work out fine
Just take a little time to look on the good side my friend
And straighten it out in your mind

Everything is beautiful in its own way
Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter's day
Ah, sing it children, everybody's beautiful in their own way
Under God's heaven the world's gonna find a way

So...

After reading every piece of this thread, I come away amused -- and, more important, now know why many athletes prefer not to play in New York.

I suppose all fans are like this, but it seems more than most, New York fans dwell on a player's weaknesses rather than on his strengths.

Curry's been averaging 22 points over his past 29 games, but he hasn't been averaging 10 rebounds and is still a bad defender, so let's talk about that.

It's not nearly as bad with Lee, of course, but I love when some complain that Lee is a poor shooter and can't defend the perimeter, so therefore he's merely a role player. That cracks me up every time!! Keep 'em coming!!

Here are some more:

Q: Bad back.

Marbury: Still can't love him because he didn't do it first few seasons here.

Ewing: Couldn't win a title (fans did not show him true love till after he was gone).

ARod: Doesn't have Jeter's heart.

Jeter: Doesn't have ARod's numbers.

Torre: What have you done for me lately?

I think we need to take a step back and realize that almost every team in the league would love to have Curry and Lee up front. Curry will never be Ewing or Shaq, but he will be a top-tier center, and will probably improve his defense and rebounding, just like he has improved his offense. (Though let's be serious: He will NEVER average 12 rebs a game, as some have suggested; I'd be quite pleased with 9).

OK, let's hear it...

Curry got the exact same criticisms in Chicago when his rebounding and shot-blocking efficiency were actually better than now AND the team was winning (his last year). Maybe if we were a 60 win team and Curry was a beast on both ends of the court, I could see the parallel with Ewing that you're suggesting.
