you take Shaq or Ewing at 25 years old, put them on any NBA team and you pretty much have 50 wins.

Yet we have Curry who some describe with words like unstoppable, franchise and cornerstone. Yet the Knicks still cant put together any kind of stretch of consistant play, despite the great "depth" people talk about.

Its obvious why.. I stated it in my post. Just some refuse to see it

Ewing was 25 in his 2nd season in the NBA (1987)... the Knicks went 38W - 44L that year... this year's Knicks are about on pace to match that record at this point in the season.

before any moron says i'm saying Curry is equivalent to Ewing as a player, let me just preface that by saying that's not the case... but to assume that merely placing a 25 yo Ewing on any NBA team automatically nets them 50 wins is off base & inaccurate.

[Edited by - TMS on 01-16-2007 2:35 PM]

That was Patricks 3rd season.
age 23 was 23 wins
age 24 was 24 wins
age 25 was 38 wins

Patrick was born 8/5/62... he was a rookie in '86, no? that would make him 24 at season's end... at season's end of his second season he was 25... am i off on something here? if i got the W-L record wrong, my bad... but you get the point i'm trying to make.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ewingpa01.html

dude, my figures are correct... at season's end of his rookie season, Ewing was 24... 25 at season's end of his 87 season... i might have gotten the W-L records for the team off by a year.

If the NBA season ended in August then he would be 24. :)
But the NBA season doesnt go to August and that is why the link I posted showed that he was still 23 as a rookie, 24 in his 2nd year and 25 in his 3rd year. :)

I just wish that Allan Houston had not had to retire. Then there would have been no way to double-team Curry without getting burned. This team would be well on its way.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

H20 was great. I wish he was still around. Fans treated him like garabage also but he was a true all star and one of the 10 best shooters Ive ever seen.

Seriously when was the last time you seen a post up as the last play of the game???LOL. When Duncan takes the last shot of the game are they pounding the ball inside, or is he 15 feet away on an iso??? Post players don't get the ball at the end of games because talking away the post is the easy thing to do. So................um, Yeah. Basement??? Please.
Last time? Yesterday, when the Kings needed a bucket and went to Shareef for the go-ahead score with 0:26 left.

The problem with Eddy late in games isnt his FTs or clutch play. Hell, even if he misses FTs there's a good shot he's going to dunk or be shooting an and-1. Eddy sits late for the same reason Skiles sat him late. His defense is so bad he instantly gives the team a 60% scoring option to go to.

This is why mentioning Ewing, Shaq and Eddy in the same line says how little you know about the game. Shaq and Ewing had a great presense on defense and totally dominated the glass. Eddy collects some rebounds during the game and simply does nothing on defense. Its almost insulting to watch, but he scores and scores well. Points show up in the stat sheet so people eat it up and believe the hype.

We cant break .500 for any kind of stretch of games. Eddy's play on that "other" side of the court is a big reason for that.

I applaud the history lesson and perspective............... what the Hell does defense have to do with taking the last shot???? Like 90 percent of your post has nothing to do with the thread and is the same old speech you seem to go into in every thread, though it be a tear jerking tale of courage and bravery. THe way things should be rant, Eh grandpa..........

And again, SAR's caught the ball 12 feet away from the basket and dribbled to 8 and hit and hook. How is that the same as trying to dump the ball into a guy like Curry or Shaq who need to catch at 8 and finish closer???? DO you understand the difference???? NO(Im answering myself.. I do that some times)

Jamal Crawfords history of clutch shots speak for themself. He should be taking the last shot. He obviously thrives in those moments.

Isiah designed the play for Curry which he is supposed to. But I bet he knew that unless Curry was one on one with good position that Crawford was going to get the last shot. So its either Curry one on one or Crawford one on one for the last shot. And if he double both then they have 2 other teammates wide open. And opponents are not stupid. There are not going to let Curry get a final shot 8 feet from the hoop.

Jcraw doesnt have the name Jclutch for nothing. I have no problem with the ball in his hands. The ball should be in the hands of the guy that can creat his own shot inside or outside best in times like that anyway

really? I saw him catch the ball about 8 feet away, then dribble 4 feet while everyone cleared out for the score.

Hey look...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=270115018
Shareef Abdur-Rahim makes 4-foot hook shot

Let me break it down for you as I know some are slower than others...

People were debating why if Eddy is such a force we dont go to him more late in games.

My point (feel free to debate) is Eddy's lack of defense often gets him benched in crunch time. So its less a case of heart, desire or clutch play, and rather just a case of being unable to contribute on one end of the floor that gets him riding pine.

Understand?

oh.. and my bad on Ewing. He was 26 the year the Knicks finally got rid of Cartwright and the Knicks pretty much won 50 from there on out.

Ewing also played in an tougher era of basketball and vs better bigs on a nightly basis than there is today.

Curry at this point in his career is NOT a franchise player. But he is not exactly a role player anymore either. He is a 24 yr old developing center. He has gotten past being turnover & foul prone. Has added a bunch of low post moves to his game and is now pretty automatic. If he gets single coverage he is going to drop 50pts. Now that he has established himself around the league as a low post scoring machine. For the rest of the season the focus now needs to be him passing out of the post, working on his help defense, and little things like positioning. And I wouldn't mind if he got down to 275-270 either.

Why does Curry have to be Patrick to be good? Centers like Patrick would never be traded for Ty Thomas, Mike Sweetney and a chance to swap forst round picks. Thats chump change. Patrick would have commanded 3-4 first round picks and at least 1 all star player back. We got Curry cheap. He was never expected to be Patrick Ewing. Patrick was one of the 50 best ever. Curry will be an all star. They are different level players but why cant we appareciate what we have instead of bashing him for not being Patrick? Marbury isnt Clyde. Frye isnt Willis. Qrich isnt Bernard. Jcraw is not Earl The Pearl.

that's what i don't get either... people aren't going to be happy w/Eddy unless he grows to be 1 of the top 50 players of alltime? is this really the expectations people have for this kid? i'll settle for having an Allstar calibre C that other teams would love to have & go from there... so far looks to me as if those expectations could easily be realized in the next year if not sooner.

NO, YOu watch the Video and tell me that shot is from four feet away First off.
http://videosearch2.nba.com/search/?sp_a=sp10038c44&sp_t=video&sp_q=%22nbacom/recaps%22&sp_n=10&sp_s=postdate&sp_k=wmvasf
Second, nobody but you are debating if Curry get's the ball late in the fourth, because he get's the ball inside of 5mins. Up in til the minute mark, currys been getting the ball all year, so YOUR DEBATE is moot. Only time he doesn't get the ball is under a mintue to go or the very last 3 or 4 possions of the game. DO you get it??? Damn, how many 3 point plays has curry made with under two minutes to go or in OT??? OT don't count as the end of the Damn game now!!!!! THe Pistons game, the Raptors game, The first BobCats game..................... what the hell are you talking about???

YOur rant is completely invald and uncalled for in this thread. YOur Tangent had nothing to do wih thread and why does Crawford shoot instead of Curry at the end of games. Only time crawford shots excluisvely is with under a minute to go, Implied but shouldn't be that hard to follow....... DO you get that????
And out side of a couple of times there are offensive and Defensive switches, CURRY BEING OUT OF THE GAME MOSTLY DOES NOT EVEN HAPPEN. What are you talking about???? Go find the games where curry is off the floor for the last 3 minutes like you are trying to imply. The last two minutes........... Hell the last minute of a close game, show me the Game log that curry is completely off the floor. THe way you put it, you should ten no problem.

The diagram below has 2 magenta dots to represent SAR's feet as he shot, it is clearly further than 6 feet out.
[/URL]

Not sure wwhat this matters but I was bored and I like proving things that can be proven, so here is the evidence.

The fact of the matter is SAR definitely was not 4 feet from the basket, he started about 7-8 feet out and moved into the paint along an arc
and therefore still ended up about 7-8 feet out.

He's probably closer to 10 feet out. SAR's foot is just about touching the dashed line and I believe that has a 5 foot radius.

Nice Shot!

From the looks of it Killa, SAR's front foot is at the 3rd hashmark from the out of bounds line, if he took the shot directly from there, I would say he was 5 to 5 1/2 feet out-max- based on your diagram.

Exactly. He's within the 6 ft mark indicated on the diagram.

I don't think so Joe, if you look at the diagram below, you will see that his foot is touching the Free-Throw arc. The radius of the free-throw arc is 6 feet. If you notice, SAR's right foot is just about touching it, and not at the closest point to the basket. Even if his foot was touching the free-throw arc at it's closest point to the basket, that would put his outside foot at 9 feet from the basket. his inside foot (left foot) is probably not further away than 3 feet from his other foot, putting his inside foot at 6 feet away from the basket at it's closest at the most, and I don't think he is standing with his feet 3 feet apart.

The foot that is closest to the rim is several feet away frmo the "NBA Arc" (Charge circle), which has a radius of 4 feet. his foot is easily 2-3 feet outside of the NBA arc.

SAR is 6 ft from the basket when he releases the shot.

Now what the hell was the point to all this?
