The headlining recap of the Bobcat-Denver game is interesting

Late block helps Bobcats give Nuggets third straight loss

Emeka ended up with 5blks to go along with 18pts and 10reb......... Sigh!

the Knicks lack defense period. Often guys that block a lot of shots take risks and leave guys open to do so. I just want some defense period.

I agree, I watch some bobcats games, and okafor goes for a lot of shots, some he has no chance at, and guys are left open for offensive rebounds and layups. then often a shot blocker either blocks the shot out of bounds or back to the offense.. I just want some guys who understand how to defend, guys who know their opponent and play like they understand what the offensive player wants to do.... we seem to play defense like we never seen the other team at all, you would think the knicks never knew that that suns love to take three point shots? or that you can't go under the screen with nash, or that arenas will take a shot from anywhere, so you have to defend these guys accordingly...

shot-blocking is a conduit to many things
a. the actual shot *block* which also has an energy effect-especially at home
b. the alter--you miss the block but make the player alter his usual shot
c. the indimidation--when a guy knows a shot blocker is back there--he thinks twice
d. shot blocking can ignite the fast break--easy points
e. guards can play up closer on their man knowing they have something behind them
f. shutting down the lane--forcing teams to take lower% shots
g.if you look y-y most of the good teams i.e top 10 have a solid SB differential

shot-blocking isnt everything and great nba players arent really effected by shot blocking for the most part anyway--the guys who count--but I think it is nearly proven that having an intimidator who can block shots is an ingredient in the recipe for winning.
