I really lost a lot of respect for some guys on these boards after reading this thread. Breen is the best in the business and for people to be annoyed that he isn't telling you a 9-17 team is going to the Finals after 1 win is ridiculous.

We're extremely lucky to have him replace Marv.

I AGREE WITH YOU.......... Is like now we living in Kansas. We want to hear only good things. Honesty does not matter no more...

Breen isn't so annoying because he pans the Knicks but rather because, as someone else so eloquently put it, he's a sanctimonious prick. Sorry, but when I'm watching a basketball game I don't want to hear about every slight deviation from Mike Breen's coda for morality and upstanding behavior. Save us the lectures on the Puritanical basketball ethics and just call the game.

Not to mention, Breen just has some calls that are so old and predictable and annoying by now. Whenever Curry misses a shot, he either "rushed it" or "just flipped it up there". Whenever there's a scrum for a loose ball we have to endure Breen launching into his 5 minute lecture about how you can jump on a guy's head for a loose ball and not get called for a foul. Whenever a team makes a run I cringe in anticipation of that ghastly "and just like that..." call. ugh.

I could get if you you dont like the guy the way he calls a game. I just dont like those fans that dont like him because he is negative on the Knicks. Gus is the biggest homer, now thats annoying.

Not only that, I dont think he calls the game objectively. He always points out when the knicks get a break, ALWAYS, but never points out when the other team gets one. Whatever the refs do is fine, unless it benefits the knicks. True objectivity I can appreciate, holier than thou, prosyletizing about his religion of refereedom bothers me. He acts like he has never cursed, or jay walked in his entire life. I can't deal with that. You wanna be outraged talk about the war in Iraq, don't talk about some scuffle between millionaires who get to play a game for a living.

Sean, first off why would anyone's stated opinions on a broadcaster make you lose respect for someone? it's not as if anyone is calling Breen a racist or making personal digs at him... they just don't like the way he calls a game... everyone is entitled to preference... some people enjoy homers like Gus Johnson, some hate him... does that make you lose respect for those individuals also if you happen to disagree?

most of us aren't annoyed by Breen's negative comments on the Knicks as long as they're justified in the context of the game... what most don't like is how he seems to find every opportunity to add his own personal editorializing & critical commentary on a player's actions, behavior or play on & off the court & often carries them beyond the normal commentary that a play by play guy should engage in... his commentary comes off as self righteous arrogance at times, & that rubs people the wrong way.

Whoah easy, I meant lose respect for their opinion on this, easy on the jump to racism Stevie Franchise.

Seriously though, I think Breen tells it like it is in a good, non-sanctimonius prick way.
