Comparing excuses bro, nothing else. I called it nitpicking. Joe Torre makes excuses before games all the time. Makes excuses for A-Rod, makes excuses for Matsui and made excuses for Clemens. I'll find you quotes before the game about Joe saying Brown has come a long way but still might get knocked around etc. Will that really make a difference? We have all read them. I only used the Yankees because they have been the Paragon of excellence and even they use excuses before and after games. I don't need to compare the two TEAMS under different managers to show the fallacy in your generalization.

[Edited by - Silverfuel on 11-04-2006 12:13 PM]

Find the quotes, I'd be interested too hear them, I can definitely see the excuses for ARod, theres no doubt about that. I don't see Torre making excuses for the whole team. Also, were the Yankees ever as a team under Torre that had their heart and desire questioned because they didn't like playing for their coach or because they had a bunch of players that were team cancers? That has NEVER happened. This group of Knick players is an asbsolute friggin joke. After last year and after all the players spouted off about, the players on this team should be getting up for every single game and shouldn't need ANY excuses. It's a bad group and its been a bad group since 2003.

When have the Yankees ever won only 60 games (the equilvalent of 23 wins for the Knicks last year) under Torre. Don't use Torre, it doesn't work. It just shows you how big of babies this team is when they cant even play well after last year.

Oh it works! It works just fine, you just don't want to see it. its really nitpicking and as Elite pointed out, also taking the quote out of context. I don't know how you can see that but you cannot see the comparisons between the built in excuses. Like you said, A-Rod's other name is a built in excuse and everyone does that for him including Torre.

This Knick team being a joke and the purpose of this thread are two totally different discussions. Like I have mentioned before, Isiah is not making an excuse for the team, he is just saying he wants the crowd to be loud and the team to feed off that. So please, if you will nitpick, I will too.

Hold up hold up hold up........ THe quote was taken out of context....

"We're going to need them," Thomas said of the fans. "It's a back-to-back game for us. We're going to need the building to be energetic for us. There's a possibility with everything's that's gone on, we (might) not have legs. I'm really concerned about being flat tomorrow night."

Thats the real context... Hes just asking the fans to help encourage the team... Not too bad
Good post elite. joec has been really nitpicking on stuff about this team lately and now the quote out of context! Whats the deal joe? Really? I've been saying it all over this thread. All Isiah said is he wants the crowd to root hard so the players can feed off the energy. Good job pointing it out Elite.

Based on the title I assumed there was more to it than what was in the article. Maybe I messed up, but that is why I posted the article. However I still don't like the pre-made excuses before the game.

I actually think Zeke is scared out of his mind. He for surely thought they would have beat ATL yesterday and shouldn't have squeaked by Memphis. He's been in damage control mode every since he's taken over. My favorite line from him about expected failure is this one

"Teams that we're going to face, they have some experience and some years on us in terms of togetherness," Thomas said. "We're not going to catch up in a week or two. But by the end of the year, my goal is to have our team ready that they can go around and compete with anybody they're playing in the league . . . But that's an end-of-the-year thought, not tomorrow's."

He made this statement the week of October 9th he was laying the groundwork at least that far back.

Your not showing me anything. Your just telling me it works out, show me one quote where Joe Torre said "we might not win tonite" I want to see it. When you show it to me, I'll stop nitpicking.

Regardless, the performance of this franchise over the last 7 years has given me the right to nitpick.

I understand that but you weren't saying that 3 posts ago. 3 posts ago your telling me that the Yankees have had built-in excuses as a team under Torre. I totally disagree with that.

Giving you a taste of your own medicine basically. You nitpick enough, you make any quote look like the team is giving up before they play the game.

and at the same time, you can make any quote look like a good motivating quote. I'm not going to do it but one can argue that Isiah was calling the team out by saying they need the fans to help them etc.

That makes absolutely no sense. You quoted and argued my point. No one told you to argue my point earlier in this thread.

See if the Knicks had just won yesterday, we wouldn't have such high testosterone.

Does it matter? Will we win a championship with this team? Hell no! This will happen till we are contenders. And then even if we start to contend, we have playa2 to have a problem with something then.

Your the one who always complains about what I say. If you know that I'm going to keep saying this kinda thing and you still argue it every single time, than its kinda like banging your head against a rock, when do you learn it actually hurts your head?

I'm not happy where this franchise has went and being a fan for 20 years, Ive earned the friggen right to complain about whatever I want, even it's every little thing. With all that complaining I still root every single night that this team wins their games and when they don't and they ruin my night, you better believe I'm going to nitpick and I'm going to complain my ass off.

All night baby! I can keep going. Ask joec. The thing is, once we get past all this bs about how to act in the media and what shirt to wear to the party, we can start talking about real stuff like we were yesterday, like feed Curry the ball down low etc. It'll all be clear. I've been a part of a thread thats gone for 16 pages (old forum version page count) before we actually started making sense and talking basketball. This thread was a necessary evil. its only been 2 games. there is 80 more like this one.

Do what you want but trust me, there will be plenty of people that will ask you to back that up. Complain and then defend your point of view. Ask me about Allan Houston. Go ahead! Thats one thing that surprises me. The amount of people that bitch about defense, all of them LOVED Houston.
