the only guy on last year's team that i liked was quentin. he had the worst year of his life on and off the court yet my man continued to bust ass on the court. after the season was completely done, he was playing with a broken thumb getting hit and sucking it up. old school. it's nice to see him in shape and hitting shots this year but i like him mainly b/c of his attitude and his constant effort on the court.

david lee has probably the best bball iq on the team.

Yea Q has impressed me. He has been better than expected when we first traded for him. He was horrible last season offensivley and will probably have inconsistant times on offense this yr. But he allways made hustle plays. I didn't know he was that type of player. When we traded for him. I was let on to believe he was a ball hogging chucker who didn't play defense. And he has been close to the opposite of that.

I blame his poor yr last yr all on Brandy.

I agree that Lee and Richardson are the only players we have worth keeping ... unfortunately they're not the kind of guys you build around... they're not franchise players ...

Nate has heart ... Crawford means well... I guess they can stay too

there's other players worth holding onto:
Curry, Balkman, Nate, Jamal, Jefferies

Malik can stay unless u can get rid of his contract in a salary dump.

the only players that should be phased out, IMO, are Marbury, Francis & Big Hematoma.

I think the real problem is we dont have ANY guys to build around. We have a roster full of complimentary guys.

Marbury doesnt have the game you can build a team around like Kidd or Nash or Chris Paul or even a younger Payton.

Frye is talented and maybe even a core player but no center piece.
Lee is a good glue player, ask him to do too much and he's exposed.

We could go over the whole roster, but whats the point.

The best thing Isiah has done is *try* to put a style of play in here, so you can kinda say we will build around that.

The closest thing we have to build around is Eddie. Most teams wont have an answer for him night in and night out. So you surround him w/ dirty work rebounding forwards, some perimeter defenders, some sharp shooters and guards that can get him the ball for EASY scores. Not dump it down to him where he's an offensive foul waiting to happen.

I have no problems keeping Q to see how he does. I've said in the past that I hope he regain his form, but I'm not about to elevate him to Captain status or give him props for his off the court problems. Given his performance on the Knicks thus far he isn't even one of our top 7 most important players. He sucked last year, he did well last night. I hope he shows us all why he was chosen to be here in the first place.

This is the "whoever did good last game" effect.

I like Q, but build AROUND him? Yeah, maybe in the catholic high-school league!

David Lee can be a core player too, but build around him? Sorry, that makes no sense.

oohah

I don't think it was a build around him in a literal sense, more like... let's build a team with guys like this. Dudses who are willing to give full effort for 48 minutes and don't back down from anyone. That's what it takes to build a championship team.

The Knicks ain't goin' nowhere in the playoffs with creampuff defense and rebouding that Curry and Frye provide. Nor are they going anywhere with sivs for guardplay.

No one is saying that Q and Lee should be centerpieces to build around, and shame on you (and anyone else) for thinking that... too literal. But we should trade for players LIKE them. And we still need a 2-way allstar to lead the way.

Say Marbury got cut or reached a buyout with the Knicks today. What team do you think he would sign a 1 yr cheap contract??

Minnesota. KG wants him and I'm sure he'd love to play with KG.

Minnesota has Mike James who's a beast to go with Foye AND McCants. they no longer have any need for Marbury.

McCants just had microfracture surgery. James and Foye are inferior to Marbury and at least one could be moved. You don't really think Minn would decline if Marbury were a free agent and told them he wanted to sign a 1 yr deal with them?

I know Mike James made some crappy comments and may have tude problems (Wait, so does Marbury) but he is NOT inferior to Marbury. Better shooter, better defender, better hustler, better clutch player.

The problem is that Marbury is nowhere nears a Free-Agent and makes too much money. Minnesota has no need for him.

good post. the thing I like about what Isiah's done so far is that we have a style, an identity, that fits the team and the supposed mismatched roster already. do we have the best possible guy at every spot? no. but we have some good pieces and a style of play now.

I don't know about better shooter. I'd say they're pretty comparable everywhere except defense whee James gets the edge and passing where Marbury gets the edge. I'm sure Minnesota would gladly take both and let play a small role off the bench his rookie year.
