Now that's what I call textbook usage of a classic cliched contradiction.
Person A - "X did a great job, tonight"
Person B - "Yeah but the performance is meaningless because of Y"
Not sure where you are going yet...
Not saying that Mardy will do anything this year, but I wouldn't go as far as to say the pre-season is "meaningless" nor would I say it "means the world."
Well I would. I am not sure how much pre-season basketball you have had the privilege of watching, but you will find that pre-season performances don't have much bearing on what players or teams actually do in the regular season. This has been proven again and again and again.
If the pre-season is meaningless then why bother to have pre-season games at all, or keep score?
But if it is "truly" meaningful, then the shouldn't the games count?
Are these serious questions?
First, why not tell me what they mean instead of just playing devils advocate?
The reason for the preseason is for the coach to try things out and see what the players look like in semi-real-game situations. He might play any player at any time to give him a look. It is like a scrimmage. The scoring etc. helps simulate game conditions but they are played nothing like regular season games(Which actually count as opposed to pre-season games.). Nothing at all. Therefore they are meaningless.
Mardy Collins did look good and it is meaningless because the pre-season is not a good indicator of anything, it is just a lab for coaches to try things out.
It is an overview and many time not accurate. Wins and losses don't mean much, individual performances mean less than that. For your reference check out a player named "Skita".
Such is the logic of those who remain on the fringes of seeing things in such a black and white manner.
You are on a real tangent of criticism today ike. If you want to take a jab at me, try to make sense.
The only thing that is illogical is you classifying my comments as "black and white" or "fringe".
Mardy Collins looked good today: True.
Pre-season performance of players mean nothing: True again.
Pre-season games don't count. They are not coached nor played like the games that count. The only performance that mean anything are the ones that count. Pre-season games don't count.
Sorry if you have missed that.
Knicks look much better in pre-season: True
That means anything: False.
Chew on that contradiction.
Finally, I sincerely invite you to tell me what a win or a loss for a team or a good performace or a bad performance for a player in pre-season means.
Please show me how it is an indicator of what happens when the games count. I won't be expecting an answer.
