What has he done?

Keeps a good profile in his neighborhood by giving free haircuts.

Gave NY knick school supplies to about 2000 kids. Goodie bag was likely subsidized by the knicks, but even if cost $10 per head is a $20,000 gift. Nice, no doubt.

He PLEDGED $500,000 to the Katrina victims. Pledging is not giving, nor is it done in a lump sum. But lets assume the best and say he cut a check. Nice. 2.5% of a one year salary. Not a bad thing. Having a nervous breakdown on stage was priceless.

He sells cheap clothes to help struggling families. Great, he profits from it. Nothing wrong with making a buck, even if you blow off a charitable event that is a basketball game in your home arena to help home kids. That was a big event.

Ok, again, nothing wrong with making a buck. Seems like its all orchestrated to appear charitable and like he is doing the world a favor. He is not.

If he did a Paul Newman and donated all profits to charities that would be huge. Spend all that time promoting the clothes helping outfit families then spinning the profits would be a huge story.

Now why the hate?

This guy for 10 years has been scowling on and off the court bullying players and coaches. He is not liked, traded frequently and seems to be more into the stats. HE even points out for us to check his numbers!

Just because he is a knick does not excuse him for a selfish career where his teams have not been successful and he is a divider of men, not a leader. All the excuses and reasons don't change a thing.

What has he not done??

1. Win

2. be coachable

3. Divide his teamates

4. get along with coaches

No, just cause he is a knick does not excuse him. I admire and respect his talent, but he has given me nothing to make him likable.

The current efforts seem no so genuine.

He is never going to be a media darling or speak elequently, but just show me some heart on both ends of the floor and show some charater in adverse times.

Guys like Qrich showed it playing thru personal loss and being about the team. Jerome Williams showed it playing hurt and being a positive force. LJ played with a bad back for years and was there for his team. IT ain't always about 20 and 8!

I don't really care what he does in business or charity. Thats his business. Show me some heart and personality that is team oriented and he's cool in my book.

Words alone don't mean a thing.

Why do you people care so much about what he does off the court. Yeessh. Let the guy sell sneakers in peace. Half of you guys need to stop making him out to be the anti-christ. And the other half needs to stop making it out that he is an innocent victim. He's doing a good thing. he's selling cheap sneakers. That is great for poor kids everywhere. When I was a kid I would love for an athlete to have done something like this. I was poor as hell and can really appreciate this. But let's also not make this out to be charity. If Marbs wasn't making money off of it he would not be doing it. He is a business man trying to make a buck. Nothing wrong with that. He's using the Philanthropist angle so he can make more money. Good for him. Get yours Marbs!!!!! As for us. Get over it!!!!!!!!

PLEASE you guys don't like him cuz its fashionable. The Media says he's a bad guy and you lame ducks fall right in line. Typical NY fans who hate on their own players. You were probably the same guys who booed Ewing and never really appreciated him til he was gone. FREAKIN PATHETIC! Just because you come here and post doesn't mean that your all diehard fans of the team.

Tell me what did Steph ever do that should make you guys dislike him so much? Just because he's overly confident in himself and when asked he gives an honest answer of how he feels? Is it because he has a rough Brooklyn personality and expresses himself in typical NY street kid vernacular? What exactly is it that has you guys clearly not supporting him as YOUR TEAM'S BEST PLAYER? I could see if he did something particularly egregious, like rape or drug possession. Tell me what is this great sin that Steph commited for you guys to bash him so much?

Are you blaming him for the team not winning over the last 2.5 seasons? Is that a good reason for making desparaging remarks about his charitable works? WHAT JOKE!

What a joke. Get off your god damn high-horse and let people voice their own damn opinions. Just becuase you don't agree with their opinions doesn't mean you can start calling people out up and down this forum. You'd be better off ignoring these things when people talk bad about your boy.

I'm not on a high-horse. I'm just expressing my opinion about guys jumping on a player for no reason. When I dislike a player on the Knicks its for valid reasons. Guys who come here and just collect a check without laying it on the line. You can say a lot of things about Steph, he's not perfect, but no one has played harder for this team than him since he's been here. He's not a Tim Thomas, Vin Baker or Jerome James.

If the guy gives to charity and even when he's not giving money away, he still looks for ways to help out the less fortunate, why take pot shots at the guy? So the guy has an overinflated sense of pride. MANY athletes do! At least he's not callous and insensitive. He sees a need and he tries to help.

Oh please.

In the 04-05 season he spent most practices on the massage table while explaining our chemistry problems on a lack of playing time together. on the occasion that he would scrimmage it too was considered a "charitable" contribution.

In 05-06 he spent 22 games on the bench for a sore shoulder - to his off hand - and sore knees. And for 50 or so of the remaining 60 games he seemed to be playing "stiff" or with his parking break on.

And we all know the can log a lot of minutes, when he WANTS to, is by "resting on defense" (and those are his own words).

This guy gives part time effort on his own terms. He does not embody the kind of heart I want from any players on my team, let alone our franchise guy. You say nobody gives more but we've had plenty of guys who play just as hard on offense, but they also practice and play defense too.

Prima donnabury can't be counted on by his coaches. Can't be counted on by his teammates. KT and Q want to kill him, while TT thinks he's the weirdest teammate he's ever had. Seems to divide locker rooms while sucking the soul from them. He calls himself the best PG in the game while petitioning to play a different position. He's a jumble of contradictions and his era (along with Isiah's) in NY has been marked by little more than turmoil and strife.

I don't get it - sure he has some degree of talent, though his peers (NBA players) voted him the single most overrated guy in the league. And whatever degree of talent that he does have seems to come at such a high cost he's just not worth it.

Anyway, that you like him is fine. That other's don't is also fine. But please leave the sophomoric comments, like "go root for the Nets", for the adolescents or the UltimateMarbury message board.
