JoeC - the thread was not "killed".. it was elevated to a higher level of conscoiousness or unconsciousness... whichever you prefer.

Having said that, you struggled with the advanced IQ test but I respect your effot nonetheless. Curious to note how few responses were penned by the self-appointed "experts" who label players as having a low basketball IQ.

At least you had the courage to participate iin the only official measure of basketball intelligence known to mankind.

Did you cheat online?

7- Black Magic. Nope

8- Incomplete

9- Fairway? Wrong

10- Ann. Wrong

7-http://www.nba.com/history/players/monroe_summary.html. His nickname before Pearl was black magic.
10-You're right...I looked it up...looks like Selma...

another rant against taking on payroll from good ol' BRIGGS... you didn't seem to have a problem trading Penny & Ariza for Steve Francis last year... & now you're talking about targeting players with high basketball IQ, yet want to target brainless underachievers like Darius Miles.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

As I said before who cares if the guy can't add 2 plus 2 and he can drop 30, 10, 10 and 10 I'll go with him. You guy need to stop banging the same drum over and over and over. MARCUS WILLIAMS IS A NET. The point is moot already. DAMN IS IT SO HARD TO COMPREHEND.
STOP CRYING OVER SPLIT MILK PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Martin, please sticky this post

Basketball IQ and regular IQ are two totally different things...we are talking about Basketball IQ here

yes. but it is all about decision making. MY QB on a football team, MY PG on a basketball team are the leaders, if they are making poor choices off the field, then that says a lot about the person, I mean are they not going to make poor choices on the field or floor? It is about the types of decisions you make.. so far Marcus williams had made some poor ones.... You can't discount that..

Basketball IQ is so tenuous and really just based on wins and losses. Did the Knicks look like they had high bball IQ when they were winning 6 in a row in January? Sure. There are some guys who like idiots, but mostly they are just playing selfish and lazy basketball - Mo Taylor, Jerome James, Francis.

Marbury and Crawford have plenty of bball IQ. As does Nate. Nate has some maturity issues to work through. I wish he had never won the slam dunk contest. But I think he'll be fine in the long run. Frye, Lee, Balkman, Jefferies, Collins, QRich, Crawford are all smart, smart, unselfish players and that will help the team. Marbury is smart, but obviously way too full of himself.

I think Curry is the only Knick who you can say truly needs to learn what he's actually supposed to do out there at times - but even his problems are more based on conditioning and effort level.

bonn - just trying to provide a community service for those who thirst for relevant substance, and a change of pace, every now and then.

Basketball IQ my butt!

By the way JoeC, Earl Monroe's original nickname was NOT Black Magic, or Black Cat or Black Satin, it was ... (drum roll please)

buddapaw - who has the higher basketball IQ?

Isiah Thomas or Briggs?

Forget Briggs and try a blind monkey throwing darts. If you gave a blind monkey a bunch of nba names on a board, 15 darts and 500mm, he would atleast put together a team that can win 30

Give me 500mm and 3 years and Ill get you 47 wins

There is no freakin' such thing as "basketball IQ".

Don't make me pull out the Post Doctorate Basketball "IQ" Questionnaire.

There is only confusion or cohesion.

Turnovers or assists.

Individual stats or collective work and responsibility.

crzymdups - nice work refuting another arbitrary piece of sports terminology

Just as JoeC was the only poster man enough to "man-up" and answer the basic hoops IQ test, most who squawk about a players IQ will cower and hide when it comes to answering the tough questions themselves.

Basketball IQ... BAH... humbug!

Wrong again Briggs.

The blind monkey would save the darts to protect his 500 M in chedda - then would go straight to the local supermarket, stock up on all the organic bananas he could carry and head over to the local zoo to share with all his family and friends.

It looks to me like "low basketball IQ" is really just a lazy way of saying a player doesn't do something you'd like him to do. People use the term to mean all sorts of different things from chucking up poor shots (Crawford) to not knowing where to rotate to on defense (Curry) to not knowing how to pass out of the double team (Curry) to holding onto the ball to long on offense (Mo Taylor). It would be better to drop such a vague term and just say whatever it is you think is problematic about the player.

Oooh don't say what you think is problematic, that will mean you aren't a real fan.

you rotate where you are told...we can believe that they were told, but unless we were in the practices, we really don't know if Curry was ever told how to rotate on defense...in detroit they had big ben to save everyone's arses, but in new york, it was if you get beat, you are screwed.

But hey, if LB says it, then it must have been true.

Yeah, there, I said LB again.

tom--no ned to go into paragraphs of efg etc.. you want to see basketball IQ go watch Steve Nash.

we missed adding HUGE basketball IQ to the PG position in M Williams which will turn out as a huge mistake. the PGs we have now--marbury and nate? good players dumb as bricks marcus is always looking UP and SEEING how he can get someone a point blank shot and it starts at 90 feet. All of these years we have no PG dumb PG etc... how can we pass on a 6-3 210 SMART PG? balkman we couldve had at 29 ah hamburger

Crawford is the other point guard, not Nate. Crawford and Collins are both smart.

Crawford - is a smart pg?

wow, I can't believe this thread. I didn't catch the particular posts but it's pretty ridiculous to say there isn't such a thing as Basketball IQ and how to at least gauge such a thing. When to pass, when to shoot, knowing how much time is on the shotclock, knowing your own strengths/weaknesses, knowing your teammates strengths/weaknesses, knowing your opponents strengths/weaknesses. Stuff like that.

Curry... low. Marbury.... medium. Walt Clyde ... very high. Like that.

i think it's fairly clear to anyone who's followed this game for any length of time what is really meant when someone refers to players w/a high "basketball IQ"... these players are usually well coached & know what to do with the ball & make the right plays when they get the ball in their hands.

high basketball IQ: Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Brevin Knight, Robert Horry, Brad Miller, Toni Kukoc, etc.

low basketball IQ: Darius Miles, Eddy Curry
