I like Balkman b/c he knows what he can do and what he can't do. He knew he was not a great shooter, so he did not shoot in the summer league unless he had to. But he also knew he could blow by his man whenever a lane opened up, and that's exactly what he did (with the result usually being a dunk or foul). Plus, the kid has the presence to pass the ball if the lane closes. IF he works on his game, this kid can become a very good player, especially if he can develop a consistent jumpshot. He just looks to have a real good understanding of how to play basketball and impact the game without hogging the ball.

Briggs. this guy is going to help stretch the floor and make other teams adjust to our style of play and intensity... that will be refreshing to watch for a change...

He can't shoot so how is he going to stretch the floor?

Make teams adjust to our style of play and intensity??? What the hell does that mean? What is our style of play? Well Starbury is back so I guess our style of play is watching him take his man off the dribble and dish when all else fails. As far as intensity, Jeffries brings none.

jeffries can stretch the floor. he's just barely a good enough 3pt shooter to do it.

Washington Post Say Jeffries Gone
7th August, 2006 - 2:31 am
Washington Post - Another source has revealed that the Washington Wizards will not match the offer sheet for forward Jared Jeffries, allowing him to join the Knicks.

The Washington Post cited two league sources, reiterating the story published by Sports Illustrated yesterday. The Wizards have until today to decide whether they wanted to match the five year, $30 million offer sheet, and have a press conference planned for later today where they will officially accounce their decision.

With Jeffries' departure, the Wizards will lose their best defender via free agency for the second straight year. The team lost first-team All-NBA defender Larry Hughes, an unrestricted free agent, to Cleveland last summer.

Jeffries last season started all 77 games he played in. The team's most versatile player and a favorite of coach Eddie Jordan's, Jeffries played all five positions at various points in the season. [READ]

Wizards To Decide On Jeffries Today
7th August, 2006 - 1:36 am
Washington Post - A source close to Washington Wizards restricted free agent Jared Jeffries said yesterday that the 6-foot-11 forward is preparing to play for the New York Knicks next season. Jeffries, 24, should find out today whether the Wizards will match the five-year, $30 million offer sheet he signed with the Knicks or let him leave.

Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld is expected to make the official announcement during a press conference this morning at Verizon Center. Grunfeld has been silent on Jeffries since receiving the offer sheet last Monday, but it appears unlikely that Jeffries will remain in Washington, where he has averaged 6.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in four seasons. Player exit interviews validate the mistrust and confusion Larry Brown nourished

Larry Brown fired

Isiah named new head coach

Renaldo Balkman drafted in the first round, panic and controvery ensues until Summer League when people actually see him play basketball

Mardy Collins drafted in first round, no one cares because thy're too busy whining over Balkman. Collins quietly goes about his business as he will as a professional 6'6 clone of Chollie Ward

Paul Miller signed to Summer League. He exhibits a nice outside touch for a 6'11 center but no one notices because they're too busy watching to see if Balkman can play

Nate Robinson shows signs of playing team ball as his assists increase

David Lee plays well and with confidence

Channing Frye is Channing Frye, and that is a very good thing

Kenny Adekele is also signed and stashed on the pine so no other teams get a decent look at another prospect from Hartford...'sup Marcus Camby?"

Mets sweep Braves in Atlanta

The people choice, Jackie Butler is signed by the Spurs. Knicks do not match and mild controversy ensues

Mets open a 13 game lead in NL East.

The Othet peoples choice, the delusional Trevor Ariza, is signed by the Magic and another mild controversy ensues

Marbury announces a 59 cent basketball shoe that he wil wear during the regular season. People go nuts that Marbury opened his mouth again.

Isiah Signs former high first round, 6'10, versatile, defensive-minded, Indiana standout Jarod Jeffries. Mild controversy ensues as peopple can't make the transition from the people's choice Jackie Butler.

Slow indeed.
