I would get more excited about Williams not getting drafted if 21 GMs, many of those who actually need a pg didn't pass on him. I am more worry that teams that he heavily workout for decided to pass. It can't just be a character thing with him, there has to be more there. I am really surprise at this draft for a number of reasons. Strange draft.

that's exactly what crossed my mind too... these GM's have to know something that we don't.

could be guys just slide... Just like Paul Pierce, Granger.

of course, there are sleepers in every draft... Arenas went in the 2nd round... how many GM's are kicking themselves in the butt for not taking him? maybe Balkman will turn out to be 1 of those sleepers? only Isiah saw him & took him... big deal... did anyone really expect to get a star player at the #20 & #29 picks on this forum? i sure as hell didn't... as long as he can turn out to be a good role player on this team, i'd be more than satisfied personally.

I simply could not resist the temptation.

(with all due respect and apology to Briggs)

hey, it's all in good clean fun and it's only basketball.

I missed Balkman down the stretch and only hope his condition is not moe serious than reported. That length of time for a stomach illness lends itself to something more intense than the flu or even food poisoning.

but I ain't no doctor

Balkman and Collins are looking pretty good.

Silverfuel - first Balkman, then Collins, only improved with more minutes.

Collins keeps his head up and plays under control.

Mister Triple Double will make a nice combination with Mister Double Double... David Lee.

if some of these guys could develop a shot- I'd love to see this line up:

Curry
Frye
Lee
Balkman
Collins

He's much better than I anticipated which is good for Knick fans. IT has done a very good job with the late picks and we have some real good young quality players. But with every Balkman or Lee pick has come a Jared Jefferies a Jerome James which is why our team hasnt been able to win. Hopefully he can apply his late-picking draft skills to the overall balance of the team.

I'll take that shiftline and raise you with this imaginative, forward-thinking, 2008 ode to the development of yoots

Collins
(Afflalo... or the avant-garde draft pick nobody saw comin')
Balkman
Lee
Morris

Briggs - you gotta kiss some frogs to find a Tayshaun Prince

no general manager in any sport has a 100% report card. nunnadem

All you can hope for is to improve by making intelligent picks who can grow with your system.

Maybe this is why Isiah is trading our lotto picks- he does better late than early- Frye is turning into a bust- and I bet Nate has more value in the league that Mr Stiff Frye.

I find it funny that misterearl is the one reviving this thread since he makes no comments on players(like Briggs or many others do) for anyone else to do this in return to him.

The thing that we can take the most pride in, is that our young players are showing the kind of heart that they've shown when given a chance. Lee, Balkman and Collins are the right kind of players for this team. Isiah has to keep that formula going with this draft. I'd be ecstatic if he can do the same this year. Find us that tough defensive, high % SG/SF that we need. We know the guys out there that can fill that need, so let's hope Isiah identifies them and that they fall to us. So far Isiah the GM is GREAT at drafting and AWFUL as FA/Trades. I can only hope that he stays away from the type of Jerome James mistakes he's made and signs a FA shooter to round out the roster, but not someone that he has to overpay to do it.

I agree with you on the Collins, Lee and Balkman effort and attitude thing. I think if we had targeted these types of SELF MOTIVATED players from the beginning you would see us much further along.
I just hope that people will like me

I thought briggs was a bit harsh on balkman to start, but this is briggs, you know the drill, but at least he admitted he was off on his analysis. No one predicted this type of play from balkman this year...... except Isiah of course....

most of Isiah's picks during his time here have turned out to be great selections in my book... he just needs to stop signing stiffs like Jared Jefferies, Jerome James, Vin Baker, etc. to longterm FA contracts... i get physically ill watching Jefferies on the floor these days, but everytime i see Mardy, Balkman, D Lee or Nate showing glimpses of what they can potentially turn out to be in the long run, it keeps me a fan of this team, because i can finally see a light at the end of this long azz tunnel.

Briggs, man up here. Your original post didn't say "and in the alternative, I bet his free agent signings will be bad as well"

You went directly after Balkman and cited Ariza to legitimize your point (which I actually find more amazing than your bashing of the picks - Ariza still can't dribble a basketball!)

When you're called out on something thats so clear don't give some tangential, "but I was right about this completely unrelated point." Man up, either that or stick by it and tell everyone to come see you in 14 months like you originally predicted...

I think he did man up, kinda. But techincally, we should wait until the two year mark before making a judgment. Channing Frye proved why you can't judge players after just one year.

in all fairness Solace, we're talking about someone who has regularly complained about Isiah passing up on talents like Bynum, Marcus Williams, Ty Thomas, etc. and downgrading the players he took before even a few months, or in this case even before a single game had been played at the NBA level.

That's fine, but the title of the post specifically said check back in two years, and it hasn't even been one. Also, for the amount of times Briggs has been wrong, he's been right at least two or three times as often, so he does have a lot of credibility. :)
