all you guys and your computer mates. Its like the Jetsons in here.
would much rather have your job... in fact its a goal by 40 (7-8 years) to be done with the coporate BS and retire from working under the flourescent lights. Finish some school and either teach, take a community oriented job or learn nutrition and physical therapy. The wife day trades and is getting better all the time... we will see how the financed go.
Good luck! Keep us updated (seriously).

36, married, recently moved to CA. Work as a family therapist for county mental health. Funny I spend half my time observing the dynamics on this board :)

I forgot to mention in my first post that I've considered switching to marine biology. Right now, I'm still a psych major and love it, but marine bio is something I've been passionate for since about the 5th grade. I'm gonna play the field a little.

Am I correct in that 1500 has multiplied by 10 -15 times? I'm in the wrong business.

Rent the movie office space, and you will get a brief glimpse of what it is like to be Oasis.

you the TPS report guy?

I am a cross between the TPS report guy, michael bolton, Lumberg, with a touch of "The Office" which you can catch on NBS. Fortunately I am the manager - which is great, however I couldnt care less about what my superiors wanted me to report or what my staff complains about. Right now I am stuck in the middle, but soon enough i will be off getting my mba.

yea... your correct. Dont be fooled though. There's a ton of research she's doing. On top of it I have her set up with 4 flat screens at home where she's viewing market data and news feeds that you have to pay for each month. There's a lot of work behind the scenes and risk as well (of course) with those ultra volatile markets. Still when you get a runner like this it makes it all worth it. For me its just nice to have the 2nd income. It would be nice if we could get to a point where we both stay home and she trades while I do research. Time will tell.

not true... anyone willing to dedicate real time and effort into learning about the stock market can make good money investing. Problem is most dont. They throw their money at tips or hunches and they are refered to as the "sheep" because they are being led to a slaughter.

The other thing is to trade in a market like that you have to be watching, because its minute to minute. As fast as it goes up it goes down, so you have to have a good exit strategy as well.

Its not gambling... you have to think about how much time and effort you are able to put into it, and choose a strategy accordingly. If you want to invest and you have a couple hours a week to do research then buy some mutual funds, a couple blue chips and call it a day. If your looking to actually work from home and are willing to put in 45-50 hours a week you can get into and play these kinds of markets.

I'm a first year law student by day. I'm a guitarist in an NYC rock band by night. Every so often, I'm tempted to promote our shows and our CD through the site, but I restrain myself because I don't want to bring up stuff that doesn't apply to the Knicks. But now that it's in the context of the thread, I'll bring it up. Anyone who's interested in good hard rock music should come check us out. Let me know if you want more info. Here's a pic of me getting ill at CBGB's...

Yeah, we have a small snippet of the CD on our Myspace page. Once all the paper work on the copyrights is done we're gonna put a bunch of songs up. After I'm done with finals (law school is a bitch), we're gonna gear up for some Summer shows -- I'll let you know all the dates.

If you want to check out something somewhat similar to our music, check out my girl's old band:

http://thedrive.info/highspeed/index.asp

We don't do any of those songs as they are currently composed, but we are kinda like this (better though -- more advanced musically). My girl sings and plays bass for the new band. She sang and played guitar for her old band.

The new band is called, Do You See the Dark...

I was referring to discussing winners and not the losers.

The key word as you say "play" the markets.

Repectively, I do this also for a living and only have two screens on my desk. Look, there are many ways to acomplish a similar goal.

Sounds like the Mrs. is making a career of it. For me, I would go nuts doing it. I have friends that pee at their desks in a bottle cuz they can't move. But to each his own. Im basically quatitative in my approach.

Most folks romanticize day trading and don't understand it. Likewise on tv, or in ads most only talk about winnings and success!

I deal with failure every day. So do Baseball players. Bat .300 for 20 years your Hall of fame. Bat .275 your average. That means failing 70% of the time vs. 72.5 % of th time. Not much difference. What counts is getting the at bats.

So when you talk about a ten banger, I know its not that freuquent, and after expenses and short term gains tax and loses, its a tough buck to make. And it would be tough to cash in a career and rely on daytrading exclusively. Gotta have some serious staying power. But when you throw out that ten banger it sounds all too good.

Be nice to send the kids to school, romp around the house with the mrs. and let those profits just run while your playing golf and waxing the porche! LIke those tacky real estate get rich ads!

But with four screens, you know she is spending some time here!

Good luck!

good post Nalod. Its all about managing your risk and exposure for her. She does do it for a living and its paying off. She can garden on slow days or play with the kids. Other days she's got a beer for lunch... you never know. With the pennies its all about what your willing to lose. Also thats why you pay for real market data. She knows people that dont. Its like being willing to drive and pay cash for a $20,000 car, then turn down collision which runs you $40 extra a month. Sounds dumb but people do it.

Mostly she sticks with technical analysis, and swing trades. When that stock hit 6 cents she sold half her shares. That ensured she regained her initial investment and a 100% profit. The rest is free shares. I dont know if she sold today or not. I dont ask until I get home... else she gets stressed.

I wonder if she's ever peed in a cup. My guess is no.. the bathroom is very close and she's got a wireless notebook so she can wander if she wants.
