Yet Larry keeps saying he thought he would have vets like Sweetney and Thomas. One can't get off the bench, the other can't get on an NBA roster.

Larry would hate Tim Thomas. I'm sure he would like Sweetney, but his job as coach is to try and find a way to win with the talent that's here.

I think there is talent on the roster, but it sure hasn't helped that our one true PG has been injured for the last 13 games and that our one true SG has been injured, depressed and off his game all season.

Actually, starting with the bad boy Pistons, it went Pistons, Bulls, Rockets, Bulls, San Antonio, Lakers for a year or 2, then Detroit. Only the Lakers really couldn't be considered a great defensive team. The Bulls had 3 ALL NBA defensive Players through both it's runs (first MJ, Pippen and Horace, then MJ, Pippen, and Rodman). The Rockets had Hakeem, and a bunch of great role players (Cassell, Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell) and the NY, houston series was long rearded as a great defensive battle that made for ugly TV. SA is a slowball, defensive oriented team, as were/are the Pistons...

Before that the league was ALL about offense with bird and Magic dominating the league for like 9 or 10 years (I think Bird was drafted in '78 and Magic in '79)

This also proves my point.....

All those teams that were considered great defensing teams also could score with anyone and they had tight tight tight rotations and guys did their roles to perfection.....yeah on offense. Once they got that together they all clamped down on the defense.

What's the point of getting stops if yo ucan't score yourself?

Anyway those Celtic and Boston teams were big time defensive teams too.......Ever watch the old tapes on NBA TV or Classic ESPN? Those guys were trying to kill each other.!!!

This team can score. It scored 116ppg during the six game winning streak after Brown gave up hope of winning and played the kids.

We're nowhere near a championship, this is a young team that has to learn to win first and Brown is making that process impossible.

This team can score but it can't score when it counts.....They can't step up when the other team is locking them up....and on defense they can't clamp down when the other team is making their runs.

I'm just saying it's not always about defense.....yes you have to play defesne and living in NY and beign a Knick fan I want the "no-lay-up line", Head butt you, techs/flagrants flying, circle your calender, I wish I had an injury excuse type of defense to come back to the garden.....but I also want guys to run an offense and be on point so when they actually get a key stop they can get that key bucket to get them over the top.....and ****ing.....

win!!!!!

I don't understand why David Lee can't trun into a monster at the power forward spot. The guys is more of a natural power forward. It looks like he has the frame to add substantial muscle and really bulk up. He has proved already he is capable of making an outside shot. He can dribble the ball. He can get the ball in the low post and face other power forwards and take them off the dribble with either hand. David is gifted athletically as well and is a tremendous rebounder. Why are we not trying to bulk him up and turn him into a monster around the basket. If he can all of a sudden start knocking down 20 footers then he can definitely learn some effective post moves. I don't care if that is Frye's position. Let them both develop at the 4 and then we'll deal with it. Lee can be an incredible asset at the power forward. He can really be a force in transition on the boards and he definitely has potential to learn post moves. Let him just work every day in practice and with coaches and on his own and get this done. The Knicks are fooling themselves if they think Lee can play small forward. that is a joke. He can get away with playing there for a little but over time he will just get exposed and he wont be used to his best abilities. Develop him the way that he can excel the best and then deal with it.

You think DLee can guard Sheed, Duncan, Garnett, Kmart,J Oneil,E Brand,C Bosh,Z Randolf, etc...They give him time now at the sml fwd because he needs time on the court but as you say he is being exposed there as well....Lee and Frye really needs to bulk up big time next year...Frye has a sml time low post game that can get better if he increases his strength...I think Frye has more upside..Well so does the rest of the world except people in these post.....
I think Lee may be able to Kmart (who doesn't belong in this group of players) and Randolph who is your basic above average PF...but do you realize --other than Brand all of these guys are 6-11-- and as athletic as hell--other than Randolph who isn't that athletic-- and are THE toughest matchups in the league?

SkyWalker's original post is 100% on the money as is Joec's follow-up. Good job fellas! Excellent analysis on Lee. I've been saying the same thing for weeks. He's playing out of position at the 3 (when mad-scientist Brown actually gets around to throwing the poor kid a few minutes) which at this point is still better than not playing at all, so I guess the experience of being matched up against smaller, much quicker players will only serve him well. BUT now with Rose aboard and AD gone... you're right, Sky, his future for the Knicks or any other team in the league if the Knicks decide to part ways with him IS AS A POWER FORWARD - YOU HEAR ME, BROWN? POWER FORWARD. Case closed.
He's got work to do, granted - he needs to add more muscle and strength, develop a few pet go-to moves around the basket with Aguirre and continue to refine his jumper and FT shooting. But he's developing, no doubt. The platform to build on with this guy is there, man, I mean you can see it. He's extremely quick for a big, he can take guys off the dribble with either hand and can score with either hand in close WITH EASE, he can handle and pass the rock like a much smaller player, he's agressive, has great court savvy and a great nose for the ball, seems to be an awesome teammate and overall positive presence and he's come a long way with the mid-range jumper since the beginning when nobody thought he could shoot a lick (he's actually hit HUGE shots for this team this year to either win games or extend games where we eventually won, games that were part of our most exciting stretch of the season. Lee had as much to do with our 6-game winning streak as any player, probably more). And yeah, he's done all of this in only around 600 minutes this season as another poster has pointed out for us. Fuck, I want to see 600 more! Bottom line is Lee has a chance to be special and has a chance to develop into a very good power forward. I want to see that here with the Knicks rather than somewhere else.

^Hear hear my good man!

A lot of us had optimism at the beginning of the season because we liked like what we had to work with. The potential is being screwed up and squandered!
