Briggs - only Houston and Shadon Anderson coming off the books from the Layden roster does not get the Knicks under the cap

yes it does their cap figure is 27mm with houston injury occuring in 2004, according to the new cba, his number would have been wiped out as well. the knicks couldve brought in two maximum contracts if they kept their contracts in track in 2006. show me differently

This is what he has done. Brought the payroll from 95 mill to 115 mill and has made the team worse. No one said it would be a quick fix but according to him adding all this payroll made the team better. 7-20 we are alot better. LOL!!! He still has no true center, I don't want to hear about Curry b/c this guy can't stay on the court. And when he is on the court he has no defensive awareness and can't rebound for a 7 footer. Thats a true center!!! The Bulls wanted to get rid of him sooooo bad they are laughing to the bank that they got a lottery pick for him. Jerome James- is there a bigger stiff in the league than this guy? 25 mill for 5 years is on Isiah, good job in scouting. Quentin- 38% from the field lifetime and is probably the worst defensive small foward in the league. Watch him play off a pick and he is at least 4 steps behind his guy. In all these moves I still don't see an outside shooter. I guess Crawford and his lights out shooting will do the job (39% from the field lifetime).
I want to leave something that's going to stand for a long timeI want to leave a legacy,I want to leave tradition.I want to leave an imprint,a blueprint in terms of how people play, and how they coach and how they respond when they put on the Knick uni.

Brigg's is 100% right. After next year we would have had a clean slate. If Isiah had stuck with the only thing he's proved he's capable of we would be a year and a half away from unlimited amount of cap space. We could sign max level FA's. We could take on salaries without having to match. The flexibility we would be enjoying would leave us with unlimited options. We would also have a roster full of guys like Nate, Frye, Lee, Ariza. If we kept the Marbury pick maybe we have Josh or JR Smith. We would be in position to draft Gay, Aldridge, Morrison or Ranjo this draft. That could have been 18 months away had we stuck to the kind of plan most other teams would have.

Instead we have a lot of redundant nasty contracts attached to players the coach doesnt even like. Crawford, Marbury, Q, Rose, Jerome James are all around for 2 more years AFTER this one.

We would have had a chance at franchise caliber superstar talent in the draft. Maybe we pick up Paul or Bogut instead of Frye.

Instead of building through the draft we load up the roster with other team's cast offs and junk, and saddle ourselves with horrible contracts that run for years.

Misterearl... I'm glad your patient. Its a key to being able to follow this team

I don't think it is. I remember everyone being disappointed about his contract staying on the cap until 2007 like Luc Longley.

FireIsiah states Isiah Made the Knicks worse than Layden. I cannot agree to that piece of utter silliness. Layden is charting deflections in Utah. Please bring him back to New York immediately.

With the ticket prices being raised every year part of it is our money.

good post fishmike. exactly, it also would not have deterred us from taking on a couple of mid range salaries like a curry.

Well he has not made them any better, and right now they might be worse than the layden years. 7-20 when were we this bad??? 115 mill.

give me a break. I dont care that JJ, Mo T, Penny, Marbury or whoever elso are bleeding MSG. I care that bad $$$ directly affect the team's options down the road. That money poorly spent stays poorly spent and no teams in the NBA are looking to lend a helping hand. I care that bad players with large contracts get playing time because they have large contracts, and that hurts the development of our young guys.
Money and a team's ability to improve have a direct correlation in this league.

the salary of this team has no affect on the tickets. those ticket prices would be going up even this team was below the cap

Hey, this is all well and true, but nothing is guaranteed. Look at TOR or ALT or LAC or GSW for years and years. And CHI over the past 5. The one element that we keep forgetting to add in is the financial aspect from the ownership level to NEED to bring in a player like Marb. I seem to remember hearing that Isiah completed a deal that Layden started involving Marb... was this at the instigation of ownership of totally on Isiah? Was Dolan willing to sit for 5 years with no one in the seats, no player to sell jerseys.

Did Isiah present a plan to his management: A) I can sit and draft for 3-4 years or B) I can start adding payroll?

Martin - thank you

All the know-it-alls who have NEVER cited an alternate case study can only jump up and down and throw tantrums about what Isiah has done in two years.

As you stated, "nothing is guaranteed. Look at TOR or ATL or LAC or GSW for years and years.

The Bulls sucked for five years.

Yet, Isiah Thomlas was supposed to correct Layden's utter and gross mismanagement and free-spending on dreck in less than two years AND Win consistently in the process?

Ridiculous stuff.

This is a work in progress and it is only December.

Buckle up and get some courage. We are the freakin' New York Knicks!

I'm STILL Spartacus!
