Get better or become a championship contender? You in this to just be good or do you want to see the Knicks win a championship in the near future?

Cap space and #1 picks have proven to be big components to building championship teams. Marbury hasn't proven he can win a playoff round much less dominate in the playoffs. If you want to speculate about Penny then I could speculate that McDyess would have brought up future #1 picks which makes the trade just as bad.

um did u not notice we drafted three first round picks this year. Not one or two but three. You are just being greedy now. And with Jyd getting the axe and Allan Houston retiring along with AD and Penny's expiring contracts we'll have much more caps space at the end of the year than we had during the entire Layden era.

Marb almost single handedly beat the Spurs a couple of years ago. He Dominated.

Let me know how cap space and #1 picks have won championships: Chicago, Atlanta, NO, Orlando, LAC, TOR all want to make note of your formula. Now, if we are talking about the first pick in the draft, that's another story, but the Knicks weren't getting that any time soon.

Why think about getting under the cap? Isiah has already proved you can get better without regard to contract $. That said, Marbury, Penny for Eisley, Dice and whatever is still a steal talent and revenue wise for the Knicks.

You speculate what could be with the cap space and protected to like #20 first round picks, so I will speculate that Marb can dominate in playoff runs for the next 3-4 years and say he is well worth it. I also speculate that Penny's expiring contract will bring in future #1 picks for the Knicks.

Great post Martin.

I don't get how you can guarantee a "below-championship ceiling" for the team when it's a team of such young talented players (mostly in early or mid 20s). You're always quick to point out that we've never even seen Lee, Frye, and Nate play an NBA game when we count on them to be good players, but you're counting on them to not be parts of championship teams here.

What we really need is a true SG...Trading Crawfford to a team like Dallas for Marquis Daniels would be an ideal deal....

We have Marbury and Nate. We don't have to get a PG in return for Crawford. But Crawford has more upside IMO than Daniels. I'd rather hold onto him and see if Larry Brown can get Craw's head screwed on straight and get him to reach his potential.

I don't understand why people hate Jamal being on the team. He has been doing everything Larry Brown has asked of him so for. Yet people want him off the team? He looks like a kid that is trying to learn and play hard ever night. I for one and happy Jamal is on the team. I think people will see that Jamal is very talent and play the point this season. People really think that Nate can run the offense better than Crawford? Listen Jamal might the best passer as far as setting up other players on this team.
