Diop for the LLE is a no brainer. There is no valid counter argument.

here's a valid counter argument...he sucks.

He's 22 and he's 7+ and huge, its a worthwhile risk for the LLE, even after you factor in the fact that he currently sucks

being 22, 7+ & huge entitles you to being paid $1.7 million even if you have zero basketball skills? that's nonsense.

getting Diop now is like getting Bynum four years into his "development"....

Uhhhh Crzy, be careful, you don't want to start another Bynum controversy, do you? LOL

we'll see about that when Bynum posts between rookie numbers than the 22yr old Frye as a 18yr old as a Laker

[Edited by - gunsnewing on 08/14/2005 03:18:07]

I'm surprised at you guns! All that talk of Bynum b4, I'd think you'd be happy about the possibility of adding Diop.

no Diop sucks. I don't mind taking the chance on him since he'll come cheap but I doubt Diop was being recruited by the Nation's top college program like Bynum was. I doubt LA would've been stupid enough to draft Diop. Diop is a stiff. Bynum is a big dude but he's not overweight and he's very athletic. He's only 17..just wait

The fact that some people are actually comparing the 2 just goes to show how much they really know about both players. So its no surprise to see people label Bynum as the next diop since its the easiest thing to do after we already drafted Frye.

I am still waiting on Tiago to be a force in the NBA like you said.

That's just silly. Sign the boy for a couple of grand and be done with it. We've got one real true center on this team "James" and he fouls out in record time. Take a flyer on him and be done with it.

The only problem with Diop is that he can't play.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Hmm... that sounds about right. The report said he worked out for both the Knicks and Nets... so if the Nets decide to sign him, we'll know we probably made a mistake (Thorn is usually very good on assessing talent/potential).

Diop is a very unknown quantity--- he was playing behind a very fundamentally sound All-star center. Based on where he was drafted, he was originally scouted as a much better prospect than Butler.

His fabled "Chicago" measurements from back in the day: 6'10" w/o shoes, 6'11.25" in shoes. Wingspan: 7'6.5" (ie HUGE, longer than both Yao, Frye, and the king of wingspan, Elton Brand)

No it's not nonsense, its reality. I wouldn't say he has 0 skills, but yes he is admittedly limited.

However, yes, being 7 feet and knowing a little bit about basketball does entitle you to the LLE. Welcolme to America TMS!!! Its crazy but its the world we live in.

i guess that entitles Slavko Vranes to the MLE then...afterall he's 7'5" w/no basketball skills...nonsense.

Mr. Realistic Knick fan,

Tall people get more oppurtunities in the NBA because they don't have to be as good in order to have an impact on the game. So yes Vranes will be looked at because he is 7-5 and if he's young he'll probably get picked up by someone. The MLE and the LLE are just a little bit different from each other, btw.

The Pessimist's Handbook
1. Always present your doom and gloom predictions as reality or 'being realistic'.
2. Always exaggerate the truth to make your argument seem reasonable.
For example:

Anonymous: We should look at Diop for a season at the LLE, I mean he's 7 feet and he's only 23, and the LLE is a very small risk to take.

Pessimist: I guess that entitles Slavko Vranes to the MLE then...afterall he's 7'5" w/no basketball skills...nonsense.

you're the one who brought up the fact that having size in the NBA entitles you to a million dollar plus contract...you have no argument...Slavko Vranes would be lucky to get a minimum contract much less a LLE, yet under your logic he'd be worth millions.

nice try turning your own analogy back around at me...i'm not the one w/the screwed up logic here, it's you my friend...Diop is a scrub...it's moronic to waste millions on a guy who sucks...not a complicated concept.

I never said Slavko for the LLE or anything else for that matter. I simply hihglighted how you suggested Slavko for the MLE when what was being discussed was a player with more skill than Slavko for less money. You exaggerated.

Why is it that Travis Knight and Bruno Sundov and even Herb Williams were in the league so long?

Travis Knight & Bruno Sundov? are you seriously trying to tell me either one of those guys would have been worth signing for a LLE contract? funny thing is both those scrubs are better players than Diop...care to find another argument?

Herb Williams was a good player in his heyday, so please keep him out of the discussion...we're talking about career scrub players here...just because you have size doesn't entitle you to earning millions in the NBA...you have to actually know how to play as well.

Herb was actually good in Indiana, just shows much you know about bball.

Diop is a waste of money and time. He has no athletic ability, has no post moves, doesnt't really understand how to play, let alone help defense, and he is not even a good shotblocker.

So he doesnt do anything well or even decent. It must be why a team tha picked him in the 1st round rather high is not even entertaining a thought of signing him, and they don't even have a backup center unless you say Varejao is a center.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

i prefer Dale Davis for 1 year if you need to fill a hole in the frontcourt to be honest...he's a much smarter player & a much better defender than Diop is, i don't care how old he is...wasting time on Diop is idiocy for the LLE...sign him to a minimum contract if you like, i have no problem w/that.

Well I was guessing the part about the LLE. I have no idea what kind of contract they would be giving him.

TMS you never have any thing positive to say. You have to be the voice of reason on every subject.

Now I'm guessing you have to be either this guy:

Why not go after Calvin Booth? Try to get him at the LLE since the Bucks waived him.

dude, just because you weren't around back in the days when i was lauding Isiah for bringing Marbury, Crawford & JYD to the Knicks doesn't make your little generalizations of my posts & labels of me as a doomsayer accurate...you & others like you (Pharzone, Killa4Luv, rvhoss & a few others) can call me a hater all you like...i know the ones who know what i stand for & what i don't on this forum, so that's good enough for me...go ahead & apply your labels if you wish...i'm going to continue to criticize Isiah's boneheaded decisions whenever he makes them, & praise him for the good ones he makes (i.e. Larry Brown)
