one thing I think Knick fans are not understanding right now is that this is a situation much different than when a young Riley came aboard and had a YOUNg Ewing Oakley Starks Mason etc.. that was a team built for guys like Larry Brown. the roster we have right now is so polar opposite --looking at things while taking a step back--there is going to be trouble in the new paradise. These Knick teams as they are built now, would win 1 game at MOST with Knick team in the 90s. They are so far ahead of what this team is, it was different basketball then. If the 92-93-94 etc. Knicks played in the nBA this year, they wouldve wiped the floor with any team in a 7 game series.

someone said the other day this is the best thing to happen in 20 years, and i thought to myself-- did you happen to watch NY Knick basketball in the 90s? The exciting 92 team that went 7 games with the Bulls as they started their rise and how many great regular seasons--and playoff series from there?

Its noice to have Larry brown, but Im concerned in the saem way when we go Marbury--is there TIME to put things together the right way for him to have a real material effect?
NY Knick fans now seem to focus on just getting to the playoffs, and that is fine as LONg as it is a climb upward.

there was GREAT GREAT GREAT optomism when riley came on, because we had great pieces in place. To me, I see a mix matched roster that doesnt fit Larry Brown's style of play and it will take TIME to fix that.
I really view this as much less of a BIG DEAL than Riley. Getting Greg oden would be a great BIg deal.

Briggs Larry Brown got the clippers in the playoffs for the 1st time in what 15years? No one expects us to win it all this year but at least make the playoffs and get the young guys going in the right direction. We still need a real franchise player and I'm not going to start another argument about who we must trade in order for that to happen but just give it time. It will happen at some point or another when they realize that in order to take it one step forward they are going to have to do it because you don't get franchise championship calibur bigmen for expiring contracts.

BRIGGS, nice post. I would offer one countering thought, however. With the current roster being potentially mismatched nad unbalanacd, this current squad has the potential to go way down or considerably up. This squad, more the the one of the 90's, is SCREAMING for structure and discipline. As great as Riley was for that team, LB may be more of a difference-maker for this club because they could go so far astray without direction (witness last year) but have so much potential and talent that the right driver at the wheel could really make them take off.

I don't know if you know this about, but I am a very forgiven man. I could care less about what he did back then...All I care about is what he is currently doing to turn the Knicks into a winning team again. He lured the right coach to the Knicks and now we are a desired franchise....I want a playoffs team in N.Y....That's all. If you don't like that about a fan, screw you.

Real fan? A hater? WHat is this like if you not a card carrying koolaid stained Nazi kinda propaganda babbleing knick fanatic you get called out? Your infantile babbles are usually "cute" and tolerated but you say Isiah is great "businessman" which is over the top ignorant! Isiah the basketball player was genious, Isiah the Coach was good, Isiah the GM has been mixed at best witht he present outlook much better than the disaster we called his first season and a half, but Isiah the Buisnessman has been a unmitigated disaster!

If your happy about what transpired today, and have even half a brain to register that I have not said a damm thing negative about Isiahs draft, nor about Larry! I love larry.

But the tripping overyourself to sing camp songs and lay praise on Isiah with no shred of memory is the most naive and foolish thing I have read.

My sarcastic remarks today are simply to parady the sophmoric comments from grown men acting like they are seeing the "beatles at shea", or Elvis in concert is quite funny! We got polls saying everyone wanted larry to begin with over PHil when Larry up until a month ago was still coaching the finals and was a huge longshot at best! Larry was not in play two months ago!

To say I am negative about everything only shows what a dim witted happy place your in! Im not raining on anyones parade, but if there is a funny side im going there.

To smile like the villiage idot at everything is just not my take.

Not really. That roster was called bad really bad. By Stu Jackson, by the press, and by NBA insiders. There is a reason why Riley changed 2/3 of the team the next year.

If you are telling me right now that Riley thought Mason and Starks were key assets when Riley came here, I am going to tell you are full of something. Starks was an undrafted player who was bagging groceries, Mason was fresh out of the CBA. Ewing was demanding a trade, and Oak was Oak. You had over the hill former superstars, a couple of underacheivers in X-Man and Wilkens.

You have to be kiding me dude. first of John Starks was here before Riley--
Riley came in with
Patrick Ewing
Gerald Wilkins
Charles Oakley
Mark Jackson
all in their prime

if you put the team before Riley got here

C Patrick Ewing
F Charles Oakley
F Kiki Vandeweghe
G Gerald Wilkins
G Mark Jackson
6th man John Starks
Eddie Lee Wilkens
Kenny Walker
Trent Tucker
Mo Cheeks

would wipe the floor with todays Knicks

the next season they added Mason McDaniel and drafted greg Anthony and they almost beat the Bulls in their prime in the 2nd round in a 7 game series. So that core he inherited was great--it wasnt coached well.

Now we have some nice players here, but Patrick Ewing and Oakley alone would do a number EVERY game to the current Knicks inside.
What they did the next years was add MEAN players--all of them mason, mcdaniel anthony
and go back and study this--NO knick played 40 minutes--they played a very split time game using depth--something we better learn to do here.

I like the rookies we added for the most part, but this club needs some enforcers+a franchise big man:>)

All I have to say is, thank god we finally got a marquee coach again. Not since Pat Riley have we had someone on the sidelines with a true superstar coach presence. Van Gundy was a decent coach but he is no Larry Brown. Now all we need it a completed roster to contend and we will be set. The roster will take a while to finish I am sure but I am happy we have a coach now.

I just hope they don't sit around and wait for this group to win a championship. I hope its flaws are realized early on and I think it will with Larry Brown behind the bench and they turn this team from a 1st round exit team to a championship contender within a year or two.

nalod - Dolan just signs the checks

Credit Steve Mills for dumping Layden and hiring Isiah

Credit Isiah for masterfully orchestrating Larry Brown

I can go for that, but it seems that Dolan flies around too!

Im sure its a team approach, but Dolan has his hand in things.

By the way, not to dispute, but are yo sure of your facts?
