I think this was a good move for the following reasons...
There's no greater need for our squad than at the center position.
We were not going to get any of the better free agents at that position cause our offers would either simply be matched or topped...
If we had waited longer James would be gone...
And who else could we have gotten for the MLE?
I like James better than Hunter...

Now what we need to do is save that LLE for one of the possible top talents that will be cut by their respective teams to save Cap space...

Combine the 2 scenarios above with a trade or two involving Tim THomas and Penny... Coupled with our Draft day acquisitions...

And folks.. I don't think we could have possibly have had a better offseason than this..

We are stacked at the Guard positions... we need to stay that way...
As Real contenders have good depth at most if not all the positions.

I think we are on our way to really competing in this league again...

I don't want to compete, I want to win championships, and this team has not plan and thus no shot.

To win championship, you must first compete, because every team around the league are competing for the same thing. winning championship is a process. Ask Detroit, better yet, ask Miami. It is a process my friend, and we are currently in the right track.

You also need a dominant big man, absent MJ. Where is that player coming from? They don't have the cap room to sign a top tier FA, and by competing they won't be able to draft one.

I would have rather traded Q for Kwame. I really didn't want to do that, but it would have been a better risk than wishing that James isn't the dog he has always been.

This doesn't stop the Knicks from doing something like that.

That's why I'm okay with it....it's just the MLE, and there aren't many other legit centers that can be had for just money this offseason.

The article said Isiah turned it down.

The point still stands.

This signing has nothing to do with any of that. It only stops the Knicks from signing someone else to the MLE. I don't think there was a better option.

Might he becom an midly overpaid backup? Sure. Even if he's useless, less than 6 million bucks per year isn't a whole lot of money....and he'll still be 7'1, no matter how old he is.

If there were better players available for the MLE, then I'd be upset.

It's not about starting Frye, it's about not being a mediocre, capped out team forever, which is the worst thing to be in the NBA.

signing james to the MLE is going to have about the same IMPACT as signing clarence weatherspoon to the MLE.

Business as usual at the Garden. "Shocker for the Knicks, an over the hill scrub who plaed 16 minutes a game for his last team and has never tried hard in his life was available for more money and more years than anyone else was willing to ante up. Highlights at 11."

What a horrible, horrible, horrible move. Jerome James? Are you kidding me?

I was excited about the direction of this team, but I should've known better. Yes, of course this team needed size in the worst way, but Hunter was available for cheaper and Kwame was there for the taking and would have cleared out the guard glut. A frontline of Kwame and Frye could conceivably be champion caliber some day. A frontline of James and what? Sweetney? With Frye off the bench?

Sigh. Stephen Hunter looks pretty good right now...

This is a good pickup. We needed a beef guy w. some height to go w. Channing who is a more finesse PF. We team Sweetney and Taylor on the second unit to get the same affect. James is lazy but he does have talent and he does have his moments. I wouldn't worry about the age...he doesn't have a lot of miles on him and he's a big man, they last longer. This was best realistic pickup out ther for us; I would be ok if we quit for the year other than cleaning the roster up a bit ie cut Houston, buyout Penny and try to trade Malik to Houston for Weatherspoons expiring deal and then buy that out too.

To everyone that says, "trade TT and somebody for a quality C..."

Who would that quality 5 man be? Who plays that position that is obtainable that is actually good?

Nesterovic?
Foyle?
Gasol even?

Give me a break, there are no centers out there that we can get that are any better than this guy. Andersen and Gadzuric resigned, and they are even bottom of the barrel. Belive me we will be able to trade this guy becuase he's 7 feet tall and breathing.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

He has no mileage on him because he's never been good enough to stay on the court.

People were worried about Channing's fouls? Wait til you see the foul problems Jerome James will give us. Get ready for lots of nights of Sweetney and Rose playing PF and C with Frye and James waving the towels for all they're worth.

I'm much happier with James at the 5 for the MLE than what could have transpired last season... Dampier for 10MIL...

He's a great shotblocker--we needed that more than anything at the center spot.
And the reply is...a post that makes sense (still waiting)

if we let TT& penny slide off the cap, and trade rose, taylor, and jyd for expiring deals, then you can complain about our cap situation but until then you have no argument. what are we supposed to do? go through the next 2 or 3 seasons and not sign anyone, not extend ariza, and then maybe be only a few mil under the cap...please.
