Jorge Sierra: The Dallas Mavericks have had 14 lottery picks and have yet to move up once in the lottery. They have moved down SIX TIMES. Meanwhile, the Spurs have moved up four times in five chances. History is written like that sometimes. – via Twitter

I've said this before - probably better for our FO to use in a deal to improve our team.

This seems to defy odds but what do I know

Tom Orsborn: From inside the drawing room: How much did lady luck shine on the Spurs tonight? The ping pong balls also came up for them twice at the No. 4 pick, forcing do-overs since the Spurs had already won the No. 1 pick. – via Twitter tom_orsborn

BRIGGS will help us all and focus in on that MIA 2nd rounder next year, top 55 protected. That's the real gem.

FFS. Spurs version is like the inverse or something, +4 to +10 when it really counts

FWIW those -2's in 2015 and 2019 were blessings.

Okafor would've been a complete waste, and imagine having to deal with Ja's garbage right now or watching Zion this close to all those $1 slices.

Heh heh!

Re: 2015 draft - can’t be upset with the KP selection especially since it was parlayed into a big chunk of our current success. Okafor would have been Knoxesque but KAT and Russell aren’t all that much. At 11 and 13 you had Booker and Myles Turner so who knew? I do seem to recall a lot of bed wetting over not tanking that year and so many others…..I sure hope that nonsense is done for the rest of my lifetime.

read it came up for CLT twice also after they had gotten the second. Context.

I don't think the lottery is fixed. Some teams are just lucky.

And I wouldn't pencil in Wembanyama as the second coming just yet. That body is a liability and a huge risk. Plus he is now in the shadow of Duncan and chasing five rings. And Pop won't be around forever.

He is the second coming of ralph sampson who at 7'4 had this level of skill. Naturally he was slotted to be 5 in the low post era and got beaten up bad with back issues.
That was a long ass time ago and much has changed in Physiology and how they bring him along. These unicorns are just not built to last!
Its what makes wilt and Kareem so special given their dominance and longevity. Shaq for his size as well.
Maybe wemby will be the one to break thru.

Dallas moves back one spot and knick get the pick.
20% chance. Sounds good. 80% chance it don’t. Not so good. Same numbers different taint.
Sad thing is I want to like Mark Cuban. did the entrepreneur self made thing rather than being a rich kid with multigenerational wealth to get a team like Ibisha and worse, Dolan.
He makes it hard.

Might want to do some research on the above. No doubt Cuban is rich. ANd No doubt he got started the same way Gates did -- taking someone else's idea and running with it. That said what he ran with and eventually sold to Yahoo (close to 6 billion) was dumped by Yahoo a few years later. A lot of those shark tank guys are exceptionally skilled at selling lemons for big money.

Even so, i will agree he's easier to like than many/most of the other NBA owners

Cuban is actually a self made man unlike the vast majority of billionaires and billionaires who own sports franchises. He also wants to win which as a Knick and Jet fan I can definitely appreciate that although in recent years Dolan has seemed to finally get it and is letting the professionals manage the organization for him instead of playing shadow Gm with Isaiah. Woody Johnson is the stereotypical sports owner who inherited his fortune and for most of his tenure winning wasn’t a priority but he seemed to also remove his head out his arse and gave up on Wilson to go get Aaron Rodgers

We actually got lucky in 2015 and 2019. KAT has had a good not great career. He was supposed to be Tim Duncan but he’s just been a taller Julius Randle so far. Russell is a disappointment for his draft position. Jahlil Okafor has been a total and complete bust and would have been a train wreck here. Zion would have been a similar train wreck with his constant injuries and I doubt Ja handles NY well

Possible this guy falls out of the draft. Might be worth a two-way, but I think Thibs would play Evan Fournier 48 minutes a game before letting that kid see the court.

This draft has taken a nosedive in terms of perceived value. Every team outside of #1 wants to move their pick. I understand the extenuating circumstances around some teams, but if Scoot, Miller, the Thompson twins etc were elite prospects, the picks wouldn’t be so heavily available. Teams don’t trade picks they think will land franchise guys. Remember when this draft was supposed to have 6-7 star level protects? Now they are saying the #3 pick plus simons can’t land Bridges or Anunoby, neither of whom project as star level players themselves.
