Bickerstaff is getting it done. The roster is solid but I'm still amazed that he is THIS effective with that group

All that said, you stop Cade you stop the Pistons IMO

Strategy is to assault the other team and dare the refs to stop the game on every play.

agreed. I have said this many times and hate the strategy. Houston does it, OKC to some extent, and Orlando. Refs need to put an end to that or at least be consistent

It honestly seems the entire crew of top level NBA talent is conspiring to kill the all star game. NBC is putting it into a slow death as well moving it out of the primetime slot. Seems writing is on the wall. This will be dissolved soon - the players don't want it.

The only thing that could save all star weekend:

The Unrivalled 1-on-1 tournament proved to be a massive hit, and Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown wants the NBA to have one as well. Brown was asked in his press conference on Saturday about the tournament being a way to improve All-Star Weekend, and he is all for it.

“I’m actually a big fan of the one-on-one, off-the-dribble sports,” Brown said. “I think that Ballislife is doing some stuff as well. I actually love watching, ’cause it reminds me of like the purity of the game. It’s just mano a mano. It’s got people on the court talking trash. You got to play two sides. You got to be an offensive and a defensive player. So, I think that’ll be great.

“And then you could do it like boxing, you can call a guy out, challenge some people,” Brown added. “There some people I would love to challenge, some people that’s here this weekend, I would love to challenge. Pssh, all of them Luka [Doncic], Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], [Jalen] Brunson, Donovan [Mitchell], I challenge all them guys 1-on-1. We could donate to whatever charity, let’s set it up.”

But at the end of the day the players of this era don't really seem to care all that much about the old heads and history of the game and all that. They want a break mid season and seem resentful they have to do the all star weekend in general.

The 1 vs 1 thing will never work in the NBA for the exact reason why the All-Star games sucks. The players will never try hard and the good players would be afraid to join to not get humiliated. If we are being honest that is the main issue with the weekend with the exception being the dunk contest. If the players actually tried harder the ALL-Star game would still be east vs West. To compound the problem is the idiot of a commissioner keeps thinking a format change will make players play harder. The players are just too rich to care about the health of the game overall. They won't care until their contracts start to get smaller.

I wasn't sure how to watch all star weekend, and couldn't care to look it up.

If they’re too afraid to face each other in dunk contest, do we really think they’ll face each other one on one? I honestly feel like LeBron killed the all star weekend. Prior to him every high flying superstar participated in the dunk contest like Dr. J, Jordan, Nique, Kobe, TMac, Vince, etc. After LeBron refused to do it, it just lost value because no one else seemed to feel it’s important. We should have had a legendary LeBron vs Wade dunk contest that added to the mystique that it once had, but it never happened. It’s a shame because I remember a time when all star weekend felt somewhat like the NBA’s Super Bowl weekend.

I bleed orange and blue for life.

I used to LOVE the All-Star Game as a kid! Still remember going to Jam Session at the Javits Center in 98! Crazy they haven't had the ASG at the Garden since then!

As an adult in his 40s, I have absolutely zero interest. I don't even care to watch the Three Point Shootout or Slam Dunk Contest anymore. Unless if Brunson was shooting or if a Knick was participating in the Dunk Contest or maybe if a well known dunker like Zion was int it. But it's just played out for me. I also realize I'm maybe not the target audience and hope there is a kid out there who is excited and will enjoy the weekend.

Same here. All star game when I was a kid was great now I couldn’t care less. Same goes for MLB and the nfl pro bowl is a literal joke.

NBA all star games should be played overseas and in locations that have never had NBA games. Beijing, Doha, Lima etc. MLB all star games should should be played in the field of dreams in Iowa.

Silver sucks. He makes Goodell look competent and in control.

And now this idea to end the nba draft to discourage tanking has to be the dumbest idea ever. Every top college player will just sign with the lakers.

I think the new generation seems more willing to revive it and put themselves out there in competition. The dunk contest may never be saved, but I think a 1:1 contest is doable. I would bet that out of the guys mentioned Brunson, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell would do a 1:1 contest and Anthony Edwards would also do it. You can find other guys but it wouldn't be LeBron and the elder classmen.

I enjoyed the all star game itself, the young guys enjoyed beating the crap out of the old guys. And the Euro's will bring it. Dunk contest is cooked though. I would probably just try to get 2 teams and do a USA vs World format. Although the shorter games led to more "moments" with two buzzer beaters so maybe that was key to the revival.

context Phil. All kinds of ideas thrown out there by people who have complete thoughts for discussion,
To be fair, or just not stupid the idea is to discourage tanking does not solve many issues. BTW, Lakers not exactly a hotbed of development for rookies the last 10-15 years has it?

Given your distain for the idea one has to consider it further and perhaps why it might be a good idea. The issue is when generational talent comes along teams will flat out recruit and the problem beomes what happens when say a wemby type talent wants to join a championship team? Less pressure or more? Also balance? Does that team then have to give up signing a top tier rookie for a period of time? Not as a penalty mind you. Same for a weak team. Say knicks are not strong and a god like player wants to be here, can they do it for consecutive years?

Lets be bit intelligent for a moment and think: leagues are made of rules and run by them. The Commissioner of each league has from time to time powers to levy decisions against the owners but its rare. The owners assign governers and they in term set up committees to study and suggest with research chages when needed. Then the board votes on it. This is how **** gets done in lots of places BTW. I udnerstand writers when they want to communitcate to the causual reader will communicate distain for the commish as it resinates easier. Thus fans often cite them as the bad guy. Its also smart as it deflects from the owners and the league. As long as you keep watching, they keep winning. The writers drip on the guilible and they start to think for them. This is how many forumilate their views. This is the norm btw.

BTW, MLB has done a great job bringing changes to the game to keep fans dialed back in. Baseball was on the brink. I do think the NBA has some issues with the game and perhaps arrogant that its increasing revenue stream above all is the best measure of its success. That remains to be seen.

yes, older fans don't watch the allstar games. YOunger fans do. This allstar game had its best viewership since 2011. Is that a trend? All star game has been in deccline for decades now. Fun part is older fans get to say how much it sucks, how it don't matter to them, but still complain about it? We loved it when were young? See the trend? Young fans like it. stil do. While none of us care about the money aspects for sponsers, host cities, and young fans, it still does. Problem is players don't like it.

I can't remember what this movie is about, but this scene lives rent free in my head. Kinda like when Nicole Kidman danced in the rain in To Die For.
