rockets/hawks would yield the biggest worldwide ratings in nba history.

there would only be about 5,000 people watching it in the US tho.

Why would people worldwide care about the Hawks? I understand the Rockets, but the Hawks?

has nothing to do w the hawks...in a word - yao...ever heard of china? over 1billion people yo...and they all want the ming.

[Edited by - jimimou on 05-05-2009 2:52 PM]

Which is why I said the Rockets, jimi - I understand that. I was just asking why people would care about the Hawks, but now I realize that DJ was just commenting on someone elses idea of the Hawks in the finals.

i hear ya - wasnt trying to be offensive, hope you didnt take it that way man. if i was, id say dj was a real douche.....

Nah, none taken. I was just trying to make myself clear lol.

yeah but dj still is a douche right?

Is that even a question?

I can't believe Stern is this idiotic to have a playoff game going on at 1am EST. How do you grow a brand if no one on the east coast is staying up to watch it. Instead of fixing the problem he made it worse by adding more games to the first round. These games should be starting at 7pm EST.

But that doesn't work for the westerners. That's just 4PM their time and they're either at work or in some cases still in school. And, IMO, not many folks here in the East really care about the West games anyway and vice versa.

Though if you wanted to pick a time that works for both, how about 9PM Eastern (6PM Pacific) for the West games?

That's the problem with the NBA. There has to be a medium. Too many teams are in the playoff and the playoff structure is horrible. The NBA should follow the NFL playoff structure. 6 teams from each conference with the top two teams in each conference receiving byes. Go back to the old system of best out of 3 in the first round. Best out of 5 in the 2nd round and best out of 7 for the Conference finals and Finals. 1) This ensures that you only have two games on a night which better for the league so that you don't have games competing against each other like you do now. 2) Set the starting time at 7pm which ensures that you are getting both the east and west coast for most of both games.

Go a step further cut the regular season games to 67 games. You will make the regular season matter more once again while still allowing teams to progress throughout the season. You will decrease the wear and tear on your players which has obviously become an issue. The idea should be trying to market to kids. I won't even go into contraction because the league isn't ready for that hard truth either.

the coolest thing would be to scrap the whole playoff system altogether and have sometihng like in european soccer, where the first place finisher in the league gets a trophy and it's really prestigious and then you have cups throughout the season that are really prestigious too.

that's a great idea ojblobman...

1 division of all teams, with a trophy for winning the reg season, then have a cup/tourney/3 game series' each round between the teams with the 8 best records and maybe another cup/tourney for the next 8 teams.

this could be good because then some poorer teams can get "playoff experience" that might help them grow, and at least have something to fight for even if you aren't a top team.

i can see some reasons why they don't do this and why in international soccer you see big clubs somewhat dogging tourney's they don't care about (carling cup) and in soccer the rosters are usually big enough that they can get away with this.

an FA like cup might be cool where matchups are entirely random.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

Interesting but you would have to change your salary structure and remove any cap restrictions.

I know it sounded good on paper to surround Dwight Howard with a bunch of jump shooters, but man the Magic are as soft as baby shyt.

Talented, but way soft. They need some bruisers and tough guys on that squad. Kendrick Perkins and Baby Davis arent out there to make friends, Howard acts like he is playing horse with his boys. Smiling and all that.

Wow, this is sad. And Pierce has barely played (3 pts, 3 fouls).

Orlando's playing like they're OK with taking home court away in Game 1.

Looks like Eddie House got in Skip's head. House hit a three in his face and Skip slapped him in the back of the head. Double T but since Skip swung the league will probably suspend him for Game 3.

The Magic better steu up their game next time because they've been playing too sloppy since the second half of the first game.

Yeah, he and House were jarring with each other. House is notorious for mouthing off after he makes his 3s but when the opponent does it to him, he gets pissed. Both guys love to that. It was open hand but I think the league will see it as nonbasket ball related like Rondo's push on Kirk.

Looks like another blowout in the Lakers/Rockets game. Kobe with 15 1st quarter points. Rockets down 39-25.

EDIT:

Rockets turned up the D and now the Rockets are up. All with Yao on the bench with foul trouble, They're not going away.

I like tough defense but thisn't tough defense. This is thuggery basketball by the Rockets. Now you have Fisher showing them that he ain't taking it. Nice job by Fisher to make them think.
