Been impressed with the reboot so far.Not easy to replace the fan experience. NBA has done a great job of filling the screen with activity. They have the coaches seats arranged in a way that is reminiscent of European football. Hope the bubble holds. Watching hoops has an almost Zen-like quality these days. With everything that is happening at once.

With nothing on TV, no new movies, other sporting events cancelled. The NBA will be the only thing on TV, thus ratings will be off the roof. Premium on advertising can be charged, new revenue streams for international markets too if football will be limited

Yes and No

Sports work for mainstream society because it offers a supposed meritocracy and it forms a type of escapism.

This push for players and coaches and executives to weigh in on politics and social issues, it's bad for marketing the game. I said "marketing the game" I'm not ****ting on anyone's personal views or their political beliefs or their religious beliefs or any of that. Lots of fans, many of the silent ones you don't hear, just don't want to deal with it. They want to turn on a game and see a game. They don't want politics or religion or personal agendas outside the game to get shoved in their face.

MLB is facing this now with Houston Astros thing. It's a huge problem in the perceived meritocracy issue of that sport.

There are lots of people who just want a break. From the political mess, the pandemic, the ****ed up economy, the ****ed up situation with the schools, being isolated and generally living in a culture where everyone stares into a little electronic box all day. Some people just want to watch some highlights at the end of the day, not have everything turn into ESPN's First Take.

People wonder why so many people are into video games. It's simple. You shoot zombies. You get up to 100 Small Guns and 10 Charisma and you go kill some mole rats. When sports no longer provides escapism, people will look for something else they can isolate themselves into out there.

Torn ACL- not sure if the Magic medical team messed up- he had a brace on from another knee injury and was on a minutes restriction. Shame to see players go down with this.

Fred VanVleet beasting today- amazing how he’s successful without the usual physical tools needed (short wingspan, not super athletic etc)

He's just not shy about it," Lillard said. "He finds the spots that we need him in. He's not out there trying to play it like he's still in New York or Denver. He knows we need him sometimes to be on the weak side. He knows when it's time to do an isolation on the block. He respects coach when he might take him out before he's ready to come out. I just think when you see those type of things from a guy of his stature, I think it says everything to our team."
8-5-2020 about Melo.

Glad to see it all come together for him. He is on a good vet term, contending with a coach he respects and as he said had time to reflect in his year away. He is lighter physically and perhaps his ego a bit as well. He is going to the HOF regardless but this is a nice touch. He need not return to NY but he should seek to move forward with Portland or another team similar.

I hope the Blazers make the last playoff spot- I'd much rather watch Lakers vs Blazers than the Griz

Blazers win again, I hope they pull this off- would love to see Lakers vs Blazers in the first round.

Lakers roster looks rough, I'm starting to have big doubts about how they're going to so.

Clips are ridiculously deep.

All the players who people were saying were skinny and had lost a ton of weight during the lockdown look exactly the same- I agree with a podcast that joked the offseason photos were like dating websites where the person uses a flattering filter on their photo! Skinny Harden? Skinny Melo? Skinny Jokic? Ha!

Speaking of the Pacers, found a Reggie Miller jersey someone gave me years ago. Also a Mitch Richmond Warriors one. Being basically locked in let me do some deep diving in boxes I haven't touched in years. When I get back to Brooklyn, I should start a thread and start giving some of this stuff away. I gave the ball Keyshawn signed for me to a neighbor's kid, but held onto the Wayne Chrebet one. LOL.

A majority of the sports stuff was free, but I still bought some dumb ass ****. When I retired, I got a life sized Predator.

At the end of your life, stuff is overrated. Experiences are the things that matter.
