You know the team was +6 with him in the game and -12 with him out?

Novak always gets blasted on these boards, but he usually leads the team in +/- despite not really doing anything- it always puzzles me.

Novak's production in wins vs losses is also startling as well. He's a guy that we need to get going to win games.

I'm a big fan of Novak but 12 minutes, 0 points, 0/3 shooting (missed wide open lookers) with 2 boards/1 assist?

Novak killed us out there. Got zero offensive production and he hurt us on defense.

Novak makes only ONE of those 3's, and it changes the whole complexion of the game.

This team complains to much it is way to easy to get under their skin. The other team has to basically foul them and hope the refs let it go. This trend has become a tired act. The Knicks completely lose their marbles and this leads to defensive break downs.

welcome to the thread Bonn

yes - Novak was great today (based on the BS +/-)

You serious?

Thats what happens when you don't watch the game and watch the boxscore

I watched about 80% of the game (and even posted here during it).

Didn't you even state how +/- is a bad barometer?

You are too funny (in the not funny way)

A barometer is good or bad depending on what it's attempting to measure - it can't be good or bad in a vacuum. (That would be attorney - like black and white thinking!)

If the claim is simply "the team got killed when Novak was in" then +/- is the exact stat you would look at (just as a matter of logic) to see what the score was when the player was in.

As explained above, I would never use it above WS, WP or any other validated measure when assessing a player's specific contributions though.

So if Novak was in the game and a non factor while the knicks stinky guards actually knocked down a few shots and made a good run

then

Novak was in the game again and the stinkys missed shots and Novak killed them by him missing wide opens and playing no defense - does not always show up.

reading box scores, I can see how you drum these up - watching momentum change - not a good picture

Should we be playing Novak 40 minutes a game since he is so great in the advanced stats?

Maybe

Felton is a sub-par PG. It's obvious. West would be a big upgrade on the court.

Oh well, we've competed against Miami 3/3 times this season along with a 2-1 record.

Tough loss, but it's only a regular season loss.

Those two plays with felton & chandler on the floor arguing while Miami got back and scored changed the momentum of the game in favor of Miami. You just can't do that. You gain nothing from it. You didn't get the call, sitting there complaining won't change that!! You didn't see the Heat do that. We played them tough the whole game and when it got close we needed Stat on the floor with Melo. You don't win close games with threes, you win them at the line. Stat should have been on the floor with Melo.

It was good to see Kidd hit his shots and get those steals. We need him to do that consistently. It opened up the game for us in the first half. To be honest I thought I would be a blowout the way we were playing in the 1st quarter...no one outside of Melo could make a basket. But it turned into a game and we fell apart in the fourth. I hate losing to the Heat. We better win the next one.

YUP!!! Thing that kills me is why he trusts JR so much with the Ball. WHAT has he ever done to make you think he has the brains and instincts to make good decisions with the ball???

Also when the energy level starts to dip he doesn't crack the whip and get them motivated again. Sometimes they need to push the ball just to keep the energy up. It's not about running, but just about playing with more energy. When they give it to JR and he starts pounding the ball into the ground and slowing down the ball movement it kills energy and makes the opposing defense stronger.

Another major problem i have with Woodson who thinks JR is a "Playmaker" We saw what that lead to when Felton was out. As average as Felton is he is a PG and should be the one setting up the offense. Or at least Kidd. Not JR and Melo

I agree 100% Felton should be allowed to push the ball up court and handle the ball the most. If Kidd also touches the ball that's not bad, but he has a tendency to turn it over now too, so I would limit him to swinging the ball but not being the primary.

Which leads to another pet peeve. We don't run double screens for our primary scorers. Novack could use that as well as Melo. Too often we walk the ball up and then struggle to get the ball to Melo. We end up playing with little time on the shot clock and a fully set defense. PUSH THE BALL so that we have more time to work the ball and get good shots.

GET THE BALL INTO STAT EARLY AND OFTEN!!!! HE'S A CAREER 50+% SCORER!!!

I could have had a bigger impact on this game than Novak by merely sacrificing my body a few plays. He is a 3pt specialist that can't hit open threes and the other aspects of his "game" are truly non-existent. He's not like Amar'e who can rebound and occasionally intimidate people with his size or get weak-side blocks, he can't do anything but brick 3's. I hate seeing this piece of TRASH on the court.

And why is everyone hating on Felton? I think he had a nice game, he almost brought us back into it at the end.
