One loss like this you can take, 2 in a row is a problem. Giants offense with no meaningful drives in 2 weeks. Allowing 7 sacks tonight is dreadful. Injuries and lack of playmakers has clearly caught up with the team, and they'll go limping into the playoffs.

Horrible game. Second consecutive bummer. And now, just about to begin the playoffs.

next week's game is the one that really counts... it's for Home Field advantage in the playoffs & it's in our house... if the Giants lay another egg next week, then it's definitely time to worry... right now we're still in a tie for best record in the NFC... 2 bad games in a row sucks but they got a chance to redeem themselves next week... that's for top dawg honors in the NFC vs. a terrific running attack that the Panthers have... the defense better get plenty of rest this week.

I'll be there next week. Its a better matchup for us in the sense that Delhomme will put the ball up for grabs and we are generally strong against the run (except when we're worn out at the end of the game, like tonight and the week before). However, if Kareem McKenzie can't go and we have to have Kevin Boothe out there again against Julius Peppers....well then you can kiss homefield good night.

Oh well. Two rough games, but I really think we miss Jacobs more than anything. I don't want to back into the playoffs, and we had a chance to destroy the Cowboys playoff chances, and the infighting would have destroyed them. We missed a big chance to drive a dagger in 'em.

Well let's hope they got at least one more victory in them before the playoffs.

we gotta win next week to own the tiebreaker... week 16's game is meaningless.

Not meaningless if we lose next week. Minnesota could theoretically tie our record by beating us in Week 17, and then own the head to head tiebreaker, which would mean we'd have to play in the Wild Card round. And who would be our most likely opponent? Dallas.

do divisional winners usually play the divisional rival WC team in the 1st round?

Thanks Plaxico, you F'ing moron.

The Giants are not playing well and are mailing games in especially the offense vs Dallas. Next game is the one that decides home field they are letting the schedule decide their fate. I don't know if home field will help the Giants or hurt them in the playoffs, Giant stadium hasn't been the best home field for the giants in the past.

It simple now beat Carolina and the Giants bring everyone to the them. I think the Giants have been planning this whole thing out lately. Don't show to much of the game plans so other team pick up on what they do well and what they don't do well.

I think there was a perfect storm of sorts yesterday.

1) You had Plax out and you needed the other WR's to adjust and raise their game. They have not in these last 2 games. Hixon has now dropped 2 game changing passes.

2) You basically saw them ill-equipped to block DeMarcus Ware, and to compound that, Kareem McKenzie and Rich Seubert went down during the game with injuries. Any time you lose 2 starters on the OL in the same game you are going to have issues. The Giants couldn't protect Eli at all yesterday and he was sacked 8 times and didn't have enough time to get anything done passing the football.

3) The loss of Brandon Jacobs can't be understated. He typically gets 5-6 yards on first down. That allows the Giants to pass on non-obvious passing downs, and gives them a lot more flexibility in 2nd and short, 3rd and short situations. In addition, he rarely goes down on first contact. Runs where Derrick Ward gets 3, Jacobs gets 5. Jake can also fall forward at the line and get 2 yards on plays where there's nothing.

So in short the Giants had a lot going against them offensively. Clearly they need to overcome this to win the Super Bowl, but at least 2/3 issues can be taken care of by players coming back healthy.

Giants sign CB Webster to 5-year, $43M extension

Associated Press

Updated: December 15, 2008, 2:48 PM ET

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Corey Webster, who has developed into one the NFL's top cornerbacks over the past year, signed a five-year, $43 million contract extension with the New York Giants on Monday.

Webster will receive $20 million in guaranteed money under the deal that runs through 2013. The fourth-year player would have been a free agent at the end of the season.

"Corey has been a outstanding person and player in his short career for the Giants," general manager Jerry Reese said. "We are very happy to get this deal done."

Webster has started every game at right cornerback this season. He has three interceptions, tied with fellow cornerback Aaron Ross for the team lead. He also has two forced fumbles.

"He really came into his own the latter part of last year, and that has carried over into the 2008 season, where he has shown that he is one of the top corners in the league," Reese said Sunday evening.

Webster was the Giants' second-round draft choice in 2005, the 43rd overall selection. After being benched early in the year, he moved into the starting lineup for the playoffs when Sam Madison suffered a sports hernia.

Webster held Tampa Bay's Joey Galloway to one catch in the NFC wild-card game. A week later, he had five tackles, broke up a pass and helped limit Dallas to 182 yards passing in the divisional playoff.

Webster set up the Giants' overtime victory in the NFC title game when he intercepted Brett Favre in Green Bay. In the Super Bowl, he helped limit Randy Moss to five catches.
