Neither AJ or Hughes could make a good 2 strike pitch when they needed to

The mistake was not to start the inning with Hughes or Joba...probably asked too much out of AJ

Too much? To go 7 innings for a pitcher making 80 million dollars? At some point we've got to stop blaming the manager for everything and hold the actual players accountable. All AJ had to do was give us a decent outing and we're preparing for Philly. He was pathetic. Not Girardi's fault.

Salary has nothing to do with game situations. Guy rallied to get through 6 after having a bad first. Anything more is pushing your luck at that point. Gotta be ready with the trigger. His outing was pretty decent after all since he had the lead in the 7th.

Meanwhile Joba sucks as a reliever too

You have to have faith in him or else you dont give him a contract like that. Its not like it was the 8th inning and he was sitting on 120 pitches. He's got to get you through the 7th. Point blank.

96 mph fastball... looks like his velocity is fine to me... he's just not locating where he wants to

We see the difference between a big time pitcher in CC coming through on 3 days rest and AJ.

AJ got that contract on stuff, not heart, poise, composure, or results.

this is true...he's an adventure...but he did the job twice...

like i said earlier, the more telling stat is his performance on the road vs. home...
