Cavs are rounding out pretty nice. Mobley is the future and Markkkenenenenenenen on a Gallonari type deal. Gives Mobley room to develop. I like it for them.
Bulls for sure are improved with excess talent can afford to move him. Parity smooths out the talent.

I'd have to give this trade an incomplete for the Cavs. I get that Mobley needs time to grow physically. But I'm pretty sure Lauri isn't a starting line PF defensively and that frontcourt seems a bit clunky. I guess Okoro gives them some flexibility in the frontcourt, but then you consider what a cluster the backcourt is and you have to worry. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Glad Lauri got his bag.

Bacon dominates against tougher competition and everybody yawns. Jalen Johnson racks up points in glorified pick up games during the summer and people want to act like the Knicks made a mistake that will impact the team for decades. 🤷

I've been watching these highlight videos. These guys never miss. :)

I'm very surprised by the amount Lauri got. Like the bulls for DeRozan, the Cavs bet against themselves.

You pretty much said it but its not clunky. Lauri is stretch 4, allen has like little range, is a defensive rim protecter and good PnR. Okoro very good parimeter defender as well. The back court is a bit awkward with Garland and Sexton but its not awful. Sexton could still be traded.

He got Gallinari Money. 17mm per. He is very young still and can shoot.
We are always suprised by the money guys get. Issue is can a 7footer on the perimeter stay reasonably healthy.

Nance JR a reasonable contract able to be traded made the cap space for Lauri. Chicago gets pick back, Cavs swap a good player for one that has a unique skill set.
That Cavs pivited from Drummond by getting Allen, resignig him, then pairing him with a shooter was a good work by altman on paper. Drummond/Nance on paper was a good pairing. Allen/Nance not so. Lesson is not that this was a big move but how having movable contracts made it happen. Chicago got Lonzo and Derozen. Notice that not every move has to have return in value. We let Frank go. Some will lament we should have traded him. Perhaps, but for what? Lauri did not get full value in return for Bulls but they made it up in other places.
Cavs basicaly dumped Brandon Knight, hammond and a 2nd for Drummond. Fans might lament on blowing assets but in time if it works they will forget.
As do we.
Randle made us forget all about KP and in time that trade opened up other possibilities that really made that deal very good for us. At the time many were ****ting on how we got burned.

Kind of surprised you see it this way. Cavs had one of the worst defenses in the league and replaced their best guy with a sieve. Their front court was already crowded with Allen and Mobley, now they're paying 16 per for a back up. Nance at least could slide to the 3 on defense, I don't think Markannen can. I think RJ will be salivating to go up against him.

Derrick Jones was out of the rotation by the playoffs last season,it's hard to see much upside for Chicago there. I think Chicago can use him off the bench and the picks are nice,I still think they needed a backup big rather than a wing.

I went from cold to room temperature to warm on Portland's offseason. Snell, Nance, Cody Zeller are all solid "little things" guys. Portland is one of the few teams that needed less offense. Biggest risk is now coaching, not sure if Chauncey will be more Fisher or Kerr.

16mm per is not big money these days. Mobley is a rookie of unknown quality. If he can start over Lauri, then quality back up at 16mm is not crazy and if healthy is tradable. These contracts can be moved. 7foot shooters are still in demand. Look at Gallo’s career. 6-11 and he eventually became a decent defender with a long career. Mobly is like 20, super skinny and will be fine. Okoro is very good parimeter defender.
This does not transform them but its a stop gap move. MObley has huge upside. Not all teams can be in perpetual rebuilding mode. I think they did great tilting to Allen when he became avilable and this rounds them out. Mobley was best player available and if he is the future, he’ll carve it out.

The history of bigs picked number 2 who didn't get big minutes coming in:
Marvin Bagley
Hasheem Thabeet
and of course
Darko Milicic

If these guys aren't producing in their rookie year the bust potential sky rockets. You don't want the coach to get to cute- though honestly, I don't even know who's coaching the Cavs.

Lauri is basically frank kaminsky with a slightly better shoot. He doesn't deserve this kind of contract but the Knicks did not sign him so I don't really mind.

I give Lauri a little more credit than that, but yeah, the signing was a bit headscratching from Cleveland's standpoint. Now I'm hearing that they're considering play Mobley, Allen and Lauri at the same time. That's not going to end well. Apparently, Nance requested a trade, so I understand why they moved him. But I don't understand bringing in Lauri at that salary when you already drafted Mobley and gave Allen the bag. And to be fair, Lauri is still a bit of a project.

Lauri can shoot but will have to stay healthy and be more open to working on his defense to become a consistent starter on any team. Actually thought Thibs getting a hold of him could do wonders - but now think Thibs may have strangled Lauri by the end of his first season.

Some interesting perspective when we look at the entire base.
Obviously its all incomplete until they play a game.

RJ's shot is looking real nice man. I am getting excited about seeing him take another step next season.

I still would prefer Beal over RJ, but RJ is getting better, that pull jumper is looking sweet
