dk7thif you are right (not really), then where were the head and ball fakes, the step backs, the dishing the ball off underneath, the 10-15 trips to the line, the getting hibbert in foul trouble?
melo has tunnelvision and is lacking in imagination, guile, savvy, versatility. the coach is a knucklehead for not teaching him how to play the right way. and if it isn't the coach then guess what the guy is uncoachable. where was the adjustment, the adaptability, the cohesion, the resilience?
nowhere.
let me guess: his supporting cast didn't step up.
With the bold part I am in agreement with you, that wasn't the topic at hand though. Melo also should have gotten more foul calls then he did, but I won't use that since the refs let both sides play with contact.
43%FG and 51%TS is clamps... big time. his regular season numbers were crap to begin with. but those playoff numbers are straight up putrid. his usage relative to the assist rate while he was on the floor was also... putrid.what does it matter whether hibbert was involved?!?
Melo shot 41% (19/46) from near the rim(Hibbert territory) and 44% from the perimeter(George territory). 44% from the perimeter is better then what Melo, Lebron, and Durant had during the season. Speaking of which, Durant shot 41% from the perimeter in the playoffs and Lebron shot 39% from the perimeter in the playoffs. If anyone put the clamps down on Melo it was Hibbert. Finishing near the rim is the difference between high fg%s or not. Melo had 2 games during the series when he shot 50%(6/11 55% near the rim) and 52% (6/9 67% near the rim).
So like I was saying. George didn't put the clamps down on anything. Take Hibbert out the paint and he is in trouble.
Edit: I was mistaken Durant had a 45.7% perimeter shooting% for the season, I was thinking of his midrange.
