That really sucked. I was hoping Japan would make it past Paraguay.

yet, only up a goal...

ronaldo has been invisible...

not like portugal has had the ball since half time...

they can still find a way to sneak in an equalizer with a spaniard mistake

dumb play there...hard to see, but from the distance you can see he intentionally tried to elbow the spanish player in the face

ronaldo has been very disappointing in this world cup - he's come across as a little brat who cries every time an opposing player breathes near him. glad spain won. villa is a one man wrecking machine out there. id say it's between him and messi for best player i've seen on the pitch in this cup.

Yeah, Ronaldo is a baby! He rarely does anything in the international game and dives a lot! Ozil from Germany has been great too! I would put him up there with Messi but so far this has been Villa's world cup! Kinda like the one Ronaldinho had in 2002.

Yea I think Villa is an ******* in the pitch but he's got the game to back-up his talk. The guy has taken over for Spain and for all the talk of Messi I think going into this week his teammate Tevez has been doing a great job of finishing the set-ups by Messi. I think this kind of highlights the difference btw Messi and Ronaldo, Messi has been crowded by every team they've faced but he still manages to set up his teammates, while Ronaldo just kind of hangs out and perform theatrics in order to get penalty kicks.

Speaking of Germany Ozil has been having a great cup but so has Muller both young players (20,21) even Poldoski is only 25 it's really scary how young Germany is. And Brazil they never cease to amaze me they have Luis Fabiano and Robinho who've been absolute nightmares for defenders this World Cup. I know Kaka is regarded as the best on the Brazilian team but I've been the most impressed by both Fabiano and Robinho. One misstep or shanked pass and those two will make you pay.

Excellent game by Spain, Portugal had their chances as well. Spain v Brazil would be interesting to watch. For me Messi has been the best player his WC because he gets all the attention and still comes through all that while playing out of position. In club football his role is more of a finisher than a facilitator. The Argentine team is playing great team ball. That game by Brazil was pretty sick too. Completely missed the Dutch gmae looks like Robben had a big impact. Cant wait for Friday!

I don't know if Messi has been the best that's tough to say because there has been a few other players who've been dominating in this Cup on German, Brazilian, Spanish teams, and even his own teammates. We haven't even acknowledged some of the better defensive performers who've keyed victories for their teams.

I've been saying this about the Dutch they've been quietly taking care of business just trudging along winning their games nothing really splashy but just getting the job done. But if they get past Brazil this next game they'll win the World Cup. That's my bold prediction.

True but I am a huge Messi fan, and I am sticking with it.

@ Silver : The Dutch going deep would be a thing to behold. They have done precious little since Cryuff's goal in the WC finals they lost to the Germans. Even the great team with Gullit, Rijkard and Van Basten fell on their faces. So I wouldn't take them seriously till I see them in the finals.

@ Bitty : Spain too has never really got it going in the WC, this years team does look finely tuned. But I want to see how their defense holds up against better opponents, that right side looks weak with that guy whose name sounds like PK (don't know the right spelling, sorry).
