England got their asses handed to them I thought they were going to lose but this was one of the worst showing in the WC by teams not named North Korea.

England sucked! It is like they weren't even trying to win. No urgency. On the other hand, the German players were so fast and their passes were made with surgical precision. Damn, Germany should never ever be discounted. Ever! Congrats to you guys dodger.

I watched this game at a bar that shows a lot off soccer games. Big Big crowd today. English fans were totally wasted and talking trash when I got there at 9:30AM!!! Argentina v. Germany will be Saturday morning next week. I want to wait till it happens but damn, this will be a world cup final game! And the winner of that game will most likely face Spain! The next two weeks will be fun!

Oh dude, I have been at bars where Chelsea fans were drinking at 7:30am! Next week, if Argentina plays Germany, i bet every single South American bar will be pretty full of drunks by 10am.

I bet they got real quiet in that second half! Yea Germany's road gets a lot more harder in the next coming games I look at them and think they are unbeatable but Argentina will be tough.

Oh yeah! And luckily they were all suburban jersey fans not hooligan fans so there were no fights. But their expressions, pure misery. Oh man, I felt their pain cause just a yesterday the US lost to Ghana. But at least we pushed them and played well. The English players representing the elite EPL talent looked disinterested. Their fans could sense the apathy.

PS: Rooney does not do well on an international level.

They asked one of the Argentina players Milton what he thought about the comparisons btw Rooney and Messi he said it was laughable. I've never seen Rooney do anything of worth on the international stage.

bitty: He was much harsher! He said Rooney is maybe in the top 20 best players in the league. I saw that article this morning and did a double take.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/802831/ce/uk/?cc=5901&ver=us

"When we hear the English or anybody else in the world of football trying to compare Wayne Rooney with Messi, we find it laughable Milito told the Daily Star Sunday. "Rooney is a very good player there is no doubt about that - but to put him on the same level as Messi is wrong. It's not up for debate, it's just wrong."

"Like I said, I think Rooney is a very good player, maybe even a top 20 player in the world - but that doesn't make him Messi, it doesn't even make him close to Messi.

And Rooney did nothing to prove otherwise today.

Thanks silver!!! I thought it was a great game by the German team... Müller is an amazing talent at 20 years old... he just played his first season in the Bundesleague this year and has already won the league, the cup and was playing in the Champions League final... and now he is leading the whole WC in total scoring!!! This guy has the most amazing year ever I bet!!!!

Its sad that England got robbed by that goal as it really is the one dark spot in the game but I think they deserved the win so much!!!!!
Now Argenita (or Mexiko) will be fun to watch!!!

TMS wrote:u guys are pretty much reiterating the point i made earlier about marketing being the main reason why you don't see soccer as popular in this country as sports like baseball & basketball have become in other countries... it's all about media exposure... if the networks aren't showing it & the sponsors aren't promoting it, the chances of the sport gaining in popularity are nonexistent.

Its really interesting TMS as Basketball has/had much the same problem in Germany for years now.
Even despite having a huge star player like Nowitzki in the NBA ppl followed the NBA on TV but didnt really start to play organized ball... there has been an German league in place for years but outside of some specific places (where the sport is locally popular) the generall public had NO chance to follow the league on TV for years... the games where not even shown!!! How can that promot a sport in a country where soccer is played by almost every youngster who begins sports!?! Of course following a national league on TV and see that its a quality sport does motivate ppl to go out and play.
Another point is that it is even more difficult as there are only few Germans playing in the league. Most of the good players there are second fiddle americans like Casey Jacobsen or Dan Dickau.
On a side note... my soccer club... FC Bayern Munich has decided to push its basketball department (yes they do have a basketball department) into the first league so I am really looking forward to watch some good live basketball in Munich soon!!! Love it and will follow how this does influence the sports on a regional level!

Funny you mention that. When that 7'1" German kid got picked in round 2 this past Thursday, and they were showing his highlights after the pick, it looked like he was playing his games in my elementary school gym. I thought at that time, "Man, basketball must not be that popular in germany"

Yeah it is slowly getting better though, as the league now is show on Tv again... at least I hope so!
By the way Tibor Pleiss will one day be a real contributor for OKC!!! Hes a really good kid!!!
