Lakers get 2 great shooters at Sf and Sg (Fournier and Bog), a PF in Randle (previous Laker and played with AD), Young player their interested in (CAM), plus Rose after he’s been bought out to be their PG/ Backup PG. Maybe it persuaded them to part with 2 firsts at last.

Jazz mainly get expiring plus a shed load of firsts, possibly a record amount for Ainge to boast about (maybe persuades them not to insist on a young player from us).

We get D Mitch- the other players we get back are mainly to help facilitate the rest of the deal- you could just leave out the Rose for Bev part, if the Lakers don’t want Rose at the minimum. But they could also be useful to keep or flip for picks or a backup PF

If I can keep Rose instead of PBev, I’m doing that deal 10 out of 10 times.

Yup, I've been surprised how many Knicks fans are on the same page with all this (not desperate for D-Mitch, quite content to not do the deal), despite nearly all the bball press desperately pushing the Danny Ainge lines that unlike all other GMs, 'Trader Danny' doesn't negotiate and always wins so the Knicks must give him everything he wants- they have to!!!! and the deal is soooooo close if only they would give in!!!!! Do they tow this line for any other GM?

I dunno. If I were Ainge, I would not be trading Donovan right now. A much better point to trade him is half way into the season, to a team that is woefully underperforming expectations and a management that is desperate to turn things around to save its jobs. I do not think the Knicks are in this position right now, with hopes running high around our shiny new PG acquisition prize that is JB. And Ainge can tell Donovan right now: "I have honestly tried to accomodate your wish of being in New York, but you see that the Knicks' offer is so low, that it is an insult to your unparalleled talent and star status, so I look forward to seeing you in training camp, Donovan, I am confident we can build a great contender together, I did in Boston, I will do this here, it will be a masterpiece and you will be the centerpiece!"

And then trade his a$z mid-season anyway. Not necessarily to the Knicks.

I don’t see Ainge getting the stable of picks he wants ..particularly this years draft…in a trade deadline trade…..as good as Donovan is…the deal that Ainge wants only a few team can do it…does a team mid season sucking wind with a projected lottery pick give Ainge their top 10 projected pick? I believe even in that scenario it would have to be a good team that is having a bad yr that would even consider giving up that pick and the trove of other assets..I don’t know if the perennial bad teams would do that to miss a chance to draft high in this yrs draft than trade for Mitchell that would leave in two yrs…

Remember the longer he holds on to him..particularly if not traded by the deadline and going into the draft…the less Mitchell is worth from a pick standpoint.

Will a team with draft position solidified in top 5 trade for Mitchell unless they know he will stay…

Not saying Ainge can’t get a good deal but the archetype of The Godfather trade he is looking to do only gets diminished the further time goes by…

Will a team get desperate including the Knicks…of course…but which team…is DAL or PHX stable of picks give Ainge the potential lottery ticket in 2025 or 2027?

I believe the Knicks made a strong counter offer..but Ainge is looking to fleece and this is not the Mills, Isaiah, or Walsh regime. All these leaks I believe are coming from Ainge to drum up a bidding war. But this is a unique off season…the gravitational pull of a KD trade has teams hesitant to go all in…now if KD does get traded you will have all those who came in 2nd looking at a Mitchell…but again…do those teams fit the archetype of trade Ainge is looking to do? Would they even have the assets in terms of 4-5 unprotected firsts…maybe a young all star caliber player gets it done with 2-3 firsts…

All this talk of Ainge not doing anything until he gets what he wants is posturing and media water carrying…

In the end I think Leon sweetens the offer a bit if Ainge is willing to meet in the middle…maybe Ainge says screw you I am taking him into the season with a rookie coach and a mishmash of players he wants to trade…how long does Donovan keep quiet when they 9-8 or 7-10. I think Ainge hope is we start off slow or bad and get desperate…but there is risk for Ainge going that route with us…for other teams in the league..again he probably get a sweet deal….more teams know their position in the standings you may find a team that says Mitchell puts them over the hump...but that offer from a pick quality perspective will not be the same…only a few teams can give Ainge that…

Just to clarify. Mitchell is from New York and he has spent time here in the summers, but he has never said that he wants to play for the NY Knicks. The Knicks haven’t been relevant for over 20 years. Mitchell has mentioned Miami as a destination. Miami is a team that does not have the assets to do a trade right now. Mitchell has not pushed for a trade. That is all we really know. I will put this out there again. It doesn’t make sense to blow up all of your assets for a player who is going to opt out, is not going to stay if you aren’t winning now. We are not one piece away. We are not in the finals with Mitchell. The one thing we do know about Mitchell is that he wants Miami. I would to if I were him. He is not loyal to the NY Knicks. Even if you disagree about everything Carmelo Anthony, the one thing we can all agree on is that he wanted to be a NY Knick.

Would do that trade in a heartbeat but I doubt lakers and jazz want it

Well, that is the important thing, isn't it? We are inside the situation, we have full visibility of the situation, we are relevant, we are in the driver's seat. We either acquire a great player for an acceptable price, or we get a rival team to give up more to obtain him. Multiple ways to win.

The only downside to being involved in such trade discussions is that it may disquiet your current players, who may be bothered by the prospect of being traded, feel unwanted, under-appreciated, etc. NBA players know it is a business and people get traded all the time, but still.

But even here I think we are in a good place. The most sensitive risk was RJ, but it was leaked very early on that he is off the table. Smart move. MRob has just signed a new contract, so he is off too. Randle is off by default. And for the younger guys, being part of trade rumors should actually be an extra incentive to work hard and prove that they can be of great value to the team and worth keeping.

Or get to new team and get/earn playing time and earn that next contract! They fully know as a pro that trades are part of the business and "feeling uncomfortable" is part of the gig. Its also an opportunity.
