Maccabi Tel Aviv is in advanced talks to sign Lithuanian point guard Rokas Jokubaitis, 23, who has played the past three seasons with Barcelona. With a height of 1.93 meters, Jokubaitis could become the first point guard under Oded Kattash. Barcelona had the option to extend Jokubaitis’ contract for another season, but decided not to exercise this option, paving the way for his transfer. If the deal is finalized, Jokubaitis will join Jordan Loyd in Maccabi’s backcourt, which also hopes to complete the signing of Daryl Macon soon. – via Sportand

Its either a tactic to get Knicks or another team involved in locking up his NBA future or his price going up in Euroleague. Either way his Agent/advisor not waiting for a camp invite and a "see what happens".

Knicks gotta do them, Rokas gotta do whats good for him. Seems the "alert" is time sensitive.

Perhaps a little of both. Rubio got the Barcelona job and Rokas gotta secure his next contract

Rubio not staying in Barca.

Are these are latest 2 way contract free agent adds?

Reports are hopeful it's the league's first 3 way contract.

This is a gold medal worthy post that also could be world record setting, if I got my pre Olympics vernacular correct.

in todays cycle. Going back to team he started with. His mental health thing has been noted and perhaps he just wants to have fun? Get into coaching? Own part of the team? I don't know. He wrapping up a successful career the way he wants. Good for him.

Rokas was linked to be going to a team in Lithuania prior. The Tel Aviv thing was surprising to me only because of what I read.

I'm so out of the loop I thought Rubio started his career in Barca? Hope he finds his peace.

I would have guessed as you thought as well.
These euro teams get weird when a player indicates they want to go to NBA. They sometimes cut minutes and move on in the middle of a season.
They had a team option on Rokas. Perhaps they were doing him a favor? Perhaps even keeping the door open for a return? I don't know.

As for Ricky:

Knicks are in danger of kicking the can down the road for too long to the point where is rights won't bring back any value in a trade. Maybe we're already there and that's why there is stagnation on this. But I think before he turns 26 or 27 we got to flip him for a 2nd rounder or something or it will just be a lost asset. I think Rokas showed he's ready to play in the league during the summer league. I think he absolutely can make a roster for at least 15-20 teams if not more. Usually some of the stash guys spend about 3 yrs overseas - Bojan and Bogdan for example. I don't know what the plan is here, but a 4th year overseas and a new contract with a big club like Maccabi make it seem like he's just gonna dissapear slowly.

Ironically his coach at Maccabi would be Oded Kattash. Older Knicks fans might remember this name from the 90s- probably when I first got on the Internet to talk about the Knicks. The Knicks, in their perpetual state of looking for a half decent point guard, engaged with Kattash who had a huge season at Maccabi. Was being touted as the Israeli Steve Nash or something. Anyway he wound up not coming over because the NBA had a lockout and then I think a couple years later he broke his leg and never played in the NBA. Ironically now he's about sign Rokas for Maccabi.

Telling that a Euro league team passed on him?
One that he has played on for three years.
Guess Barcelona FO has not read this thread?

Tel Aviv is a great city to play in! Hope he has great success!
He was not a lost asset, he was an opportunity. Some picks fail for many reasons but this kid can play. Question is we can't give him a guarantee. Glad he came and played well, and perhaps he had a price and knicks were unwilling or unable to meet it, and perhaps tried to trade him/his rights but never really got much interest.

Somtimes you get gold in the second round, more often that not teams don't.

LOL Guilty! TBH I read it too fast and thought it was an offer. Have to cut down on the bad speed reading.

I wonder if his rights were offered to Brooklyn in the Bridges deal and they just passed.
