For those questioning the trade, was there another team out there with the expiring contracts, draft assets and a young player the Knicks seem to really like?

exactly, and according to Mark Cuban, KP will not play this season, leaving all sorts of question marks about his health.

That's not exactly attractive to FA either

Kp hated mills, and he hated the direction of the franchise, and he specifically hated the way they treated his close friends on the team(melo, willy, kanter, kuz).

Would you jump into a marriage with a dysfunctional bitch just because she has nice body and cute face, but doesn't clean, cook, or work, and she's been telling you for yrs she's going to change.

Some peoples priorities are different from others, and his priority is winning, not money and fame.

You have no idea why he left. He just went to a team thats not winning.
He left a situation that had potential. Something just does not add up.
You don’t understand things then leave it at that. I don’t understand all of why he left.
As for your question, The part thats funny is “For years she is telling you she is going to change”. So is the dude happy? You say “Dysfuncitonal Bitch” because she won’t clean, cook or work?
What about “Stay healthy, rebound and be a good teammate”?

He didn't request a trade, he just didn't commit to the future. Skipped exit meetings, staying away from the franchise when healthy and injured during the off season, mills and perry never visiting him in the off season. It was Fiz who volunteered to make that trip.

He never ever wavered from his stance of wanting to see improvement, and there's no way you can consider this an improvement.

The biggest tell tell sign....JANIS SAID last season, HE WOULD NOT SIGNED A ROOKIE EXTENSION UNTIL THEY SHOWED THAT , BUT 99% OF PEOPLE thought he was blowing smoke.

He was label the unicorn not just because of his skill set(7 3" player that can cross over and shoot 3's), his entire way of thinking(no rookie ever turned down a rookie extension), and having your brother as a manager (never seen this before in no sport)..

the stupidity of people thinking we controlled him because we drafted him..ooookay..

YOU (absolutely under no circumstance) CAN HAVE A PLAYER NEAR YOUR TEAM WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE THERE, so the only thing you can control is where you can trade him to..

The signs were there, ya'll just chose to be naive..

Eh, him saying he would take a qualifying offer and him actually taking a qualifying offer are 2 different things. Knicks could have probably locked him up with an extension months ago during the season but choose to wait out in order to preserve cap for another star to pair him with. So unless you can show that he was not willing to sign an OFFERED extension from the Knicks there are major holes to fill here.

Knicks big picture wise were doing everything possible to provide him real help when he got back from injury. From putting themselves in the Zion sweepstakes. To looking to create caps space to sign quality free agents to pair with when he would be able to play. The team losing games isn't dysfunction. Dysfunction is when the Owner, President, GM, Coaches aren't on the same page in terms of vision for the club.

Well said. This isn’t the same old Knicks as some in the media are pushing. The Knicks got expiring a for their bad contracts, draft assets and a player they wanted. They got rid of a guy who doesn’t want to be here, has health concerns and had become a diva.

Agreed. My initial reaction was anger mostly because I bought into the potential of KP but he has been a pr#ck for almost two years now. Also in the original report they claimed we would get a protected 1 but when I heard we will get a unprotected 1st and a lightly protected first I felt a lot better. Plus Perry must know that he has an advantage with KD and kyrie

This is a big if. But if they can land Zion. You have Smith, Zion, Knox, Frank as top 10 lotto picks to put out there. To go with guys like Trier, Dotson, Mitch, Vonleh, Kornet. This doesn't include the cap space, or the 7 draft picks in the next 5 seasons as Perry stated.

They can deal from a position of strength going forward in every move. They have ultimate flexibility to maneuver pieces to build a quality balanced team. From either moving pieces that don't fit in single deals for more balance. Or to package 2 for 1 and not have to match salaries. They have draft capital that they can afford to move if nessesary for smaller upgrades.

Those deals for the Bledsoe level guys(like when he wanted out of Phoenix)can be had without sacrificing the future etc.

probably Janis. His brother is a sh#thead

Possible both Mills and Janis. And the result KP no more in New York :(
his loss. Things will get better while he injures himself again probably

When he comes back, he will be a monster. And Mavs now have 2 young superstars KP(23) and Doncic(19). When THJ contract ends, they will be able to add another star and they still be young. Very good situation for Dallas.

I love Doncic, but both are far from being superstars. KP, who I really liked before all this controversy, was still a perennial injury worry and a player who’s durability and consistency were always put in question. He started seasons like an MVP, but faded quickly and whispers always pointed to his health.

My initial thought was that this was an amazing trade for Dallas, but honestly is a swing for the fences with even worse possibilities of blowing up in the Mavs’ faces than the Knicks side. True, the Knicks side is full of air and ifs, but the worst case scenario is a longer rebuilding with assets to play. For Dallas, worst case scenario is either KP being a bust because of health, coming back but getting injured again or him being amazing and leaving after a year.

Put yourself in KP shoes.
The team you want to be a centerpiece for is in position to possibly draft talent superior to you.
In position to sign FA who is superior to you.
And has a bunch of players who will be a part of the solution.
And you are not yourself sure on how you body will sustain the NBA game.
You see that the new FO is set on their goals which see you as a centerpiece but still replaceable or tradable.
It is easy to lose you balance and rely on old brother to make decision for you.
Doncic is nice feet to you and not competing force at forward position opposite to KD, AD or Zion.
Dallas is not NY with its relentless media and fans pressure. Especially for dude coming for small provincial city in small quiet country.
KP was not made for being the man in NY. Not many are but he was not at all.

What he ultimately wanted was a miracle because, well, he is a unicorn afterall. He was drafted by a team in rebuild mode. Thats how things work usually. Sorry KP that you werent drafted by GS in the midst of their dominant hold on the NBA, and screw you Janis just for the sake of it. Now how do smart teams rebuild again? Through the draft while hopefully amassing assets. Should we feel bad for KP because the pick we used to get him did not get traded to a contender for an over the hill player past their prime? Prolly not, screw you Janis again for being so dense, exibit A: 76ers. What he wanted was instant gratification and Janis convinced him that he deserved such. Janis you suck btw.

Now he is out of the greatest city in the world and in Dallas. I am sure if the Knicks told him that they were trading him to Dallas if he didn’t commit that he would have committed. Good riddance. Still can’t believe the first thing he put on social media was the handshake with Doncic. If he follows the same path with his health the Knicks should be getting a very good pick.

KP was not made for being the man in NY. Not many are but he was not at all.

so true

But at the end of the day isn’t this what he ultimately wanted...which was help...

Good Riddance indeed. He has had one good year and a ACL injury so its not like we owe him a damn thing.

Not even a year...a month and a half...he started to look tired by Late Dec....teams start playing physical getting into his legs....that was always going to be the problem and Mills and Perry made the smart move....had they gave him the max and he got hurt again...this would have been stat 2.0

True. Plus he would get destroyed by other big guys. Jokic used to destroy him everytime they played. Doesnt help that he cant rebound either

I think the system in Dallas with Luka will maximize his strengths....they may get someone in FA....but the West is dog fight...does he have the stamina and will he hold up....

The first 2-3 maths he may not look like the same player..remember when Shump came back he looked like a shell of himself until we were in the playoffs I believe..

Dallas took a gamble. Cuban can afford it and he likes to gamble.
They can get the jack pot or get nothing. No middle ground.
Knicks FO decided to go for sure things like cap space, picks, bunch of young talent with high probability that some of it will work.
KP could be part of this equation but he decided to fined the easy way out.
Sometimes it works but most of the time it is not.

He usually wears out and breaks down around two months into the season so that should be interesting. W
