The plan was you don't let a coach and organization sit once decision was made to move on. That was the plan. They were not moving forward with Thibs and it was not a snap decision either apparently. The exit interviews confirmed the direction.

Then the plan was one of Udoka, Fitch, and Kidd if rumors/reports are correct. In what order we don't know.
I doubt this was a spontaneous hissy fit reaction. Thibs did a great job with the roster last year. This year he was tasked by the FO to coach a different type of team with Kat and Mikal and they deemed this is likely the team going forward and he is not the man for the job. WWW has not been a Thibian supporter from rumors and Rosas was not here when hired. He is the GM. Still not sure what WWW really does for knicks.
Who stays on the bench or not remains now up in the air.

One might say the Johnny Bryant thing was a quick media response or we ****ed him over the PHX job. Seems PHX was going with Ott and the quick timing of Thibs being fired was just coincidental. I doubt he turned it down for him to be told he might be our 4th choice.

Why go after another teams coach? Why not? They are all good choices and perhaps Mavs or others given a chance to get out of a contract might have a preferred choice. Fitch took a good team to Conf. finals two years in a row. Imagine we do that without advancing the fan pushback? But fan opinions don't matter as much as we think to a FO unless they are failing on the court and attendance is down. When Fans protested Dolan and he responded with Starphuch Phil Jax hire that was a real thing but the anomaly not the norm.

Bravo for him.

Us needing a new voice doesn't take anything away from his accomplishments nor from his knowledge and competence as a coach. I really hope he finds another team to resuscitate as he helped us do. And if we ever win it all in the upcoming years, he should never be forgotten as someone responsible to help us get to that level.

Optics of Knicks asking for 3 coaches that are currently employed and being rejected on all 3 accounts look bad, as it makes it seem as if there is no plan. However, think the Knicks probably identified top 3-5 guys from each channel (current head coaches, assistants, college and those not currently employed) and probably are gonna run an exhaustive search. That the coaches who already have jobs are unavailable is not necessarily something that should be a surprise or something we should have a strong reaction too as the Knicks likely expected that as well.

These guys are getting their news from BKE in this instance - it was that account that said Knicks pursuit will continue despite initial denial.

- could Knicks have thrown flyers out to Ima and Finch first as a way to cover themselves in terms of tampering with Kidd?
- what do Mavs do if Kidd either discreetly or not so discreetly informs them he wants to coach in NY?
- does an organization want someone leading their organization who really wants to be elsewhere and how would Kidd act day to day?
- I have to assume (based on how this front office has acted for years now) that they already know what Kidd wants (NY).

Now -- is it possible they got bad info from Kidd - possibly but these are high level chess players in Leon/WWW - I would assume they would sniff something like that out if Kidd were bluffing with them for whatever reason (maybe more $ from Dallas).

Me personally if Kidd I'm not 100% certain Knick job is better vs starting fresh with Flag and some solid vets. Big issue for Kidd is how long before Niko is canned and new GM maybe doesn't want Kidd around any longer.
