My read on it at a glance was that 2028 offseason is when the cap will open up significantly. And you could probably get to significant cap space a year early if you traded KAT for a KD and set that up for basically a 2 year run. And it seems we prudently set it up so we could give Brunson his next deal the year AFTER that post-KAT offseason. So basically load up again on FAs and then re-sign Brunson after you have used all your cap space.

I don't think cap space is useful with the current CBA. As long as Brunson is here the Knicks shouldn't be targeting free agency.

Cap space is a re-set.

Rolling contracts is what has to happen in the current CBA. This is why Randle had to get traded. We were too far apart on an extension. Letting Randle expire did nothing for them- they rolled him into a better player they had a longer amount of control over.

My wife told me Saturday Morning she got me a Father's Day present...my anxiety level literally went to 1000 as I knew she'd only be telling me this early for 1 reason. Yanks obviously gave away a 3-0 lead, Giants have blown a few playoff games in spectacular fashion, Knicks take the cake with their history....but watching that unfold the way it did is hard to put into words. Losing there was a tonesetter...they really needed to bounce back immediately in game 2. Going down 0-2 at home and losing in that fashion was too deep of a hole.

That’s when I truly lost hope on them this year. Game 1 was a choke, yes, but coming back in Game 2 and winning convincing was the only way you could take back the series. When they didn’t, it let me know they weren’t really serious about this run and reminded me of the maddeningly inconsistent team they really were during all the year.
