KAT has a player option the year before (he will likely pick that up) and Josh has a team option (we would likely pick that up assuming his level of play is the same as the contract would be under market) and if that happens, those guys have another year past that on the cap...and Mikal's extension may take him till then as well.

My read on it at a glance was that 2028 offseason is when the cap will open up significantly. And you could probably get to significant cap space a year early if you traded KAT for a KD and set that up for basically a 2 year run. So basically you could set up KD for a 2 year window before getting some flexibility, and staying the course gives us a 3 year window before getting some flexibility. And it seems we prudently set it up so we could give Brunson his next deal the year AFTER that post-KAT offseason. So basically load up again on FAs and then re-sign Brunson after you have used all your cap space.

I don't think cap space is useful with the current CBA. As long as Brunson is here the Knicks shouldn't be targeting free agency.

Cap space is a re-set.

Rolling contracts is what has to happen in the current CBA. This is why Randle had to get traded. We were too far apart on an extension. Letting Randle expire did nothing for them- they rolled him into a better player they had a longer amount of control over.

My wife told me Saturday Morning she got me a Father's Day present...my anxiety level literally went to 1000 as I knew she'd only be telling me this early for 1 reason. Despite not liking basketball at all she spent some ungodly sum to get me a ticket to Gm 7 because she knows how much it means to me. Made me even more nervous on Game day and feeling a bit more sad than I did this weekend today knowing I'd have been prepping to go. Its dissapointing for sure. You have to win a lot of game to get to this point. Watching the game 1 choke away was the most brutal sports fan experience of my life. Yanks obviously gave away a 3-0 lead, Giants have blown a few playoff games in spectacular fashion, Knicks take the cake with their history....but watching that unfold the way it did is hard to put into words. Losing there was a tonesetter...they really needed to bounce back immediately in game 2. Going down 0-2 at home and losing in that fashion was too deep of a hole.

That’s when I truly lost hope on them this year. Game 1 was a choke, yes, but coming back in Game 2 and winning convincing was the only way you could take back the series. When they didn’t, it let me know they weren’t really serious about this run and reminded me of the maddeningly inconsistent team they really were during all the year.

that would have been a great present! Kudo's to mrs. VDsai for the effort! You truly had buy in more than most of us.

I said this a few weeks ago that these games are like "Knife fights"........Slow and hard games. Losing sucks, make no bones about that but a good hard close contest of excellence is to be admired. Two teams bring its best. We got that last year. Thibs did a great job with that team. He does have that ability to have teams play over their heads. This year not so and really if Mikal does not resign and extension and we have to trade him for less than what we paid it will **** things up.

But that game 7 could have been epic experience. Sorry it did not manifest the way you wanted! Happy Fathers day!!!
