As we approach the playoffs, I can see thibs shifting from development to winning playoff games (by any means necessary). That probably mean deuce will get little to no PT. Rotation will get even tighter. With 11 games left, if you are still trying to understand how to impact this team, your mins will most likely get reduced because we have players like hart and IQ who understand how to impact this team and has proven that already.

I’m a huge grimes and deuce fan. I love all of our yoots. But now is when I give thibs the green light to burn out these vets if that’s what it takes to get some wins. Deuce is the only exception to me because I believe his PG defense is better than Hart and slightly better than IQ or anybody on the team. Especially the real shifty quick and savy pt guards. But IQ is also solid in this category and provides more offense, but deuce is the real deal on defense. Grimes is still the starter and he’s a long term addition to this team. But we are entering winning time by any means necessary. You will not hear me complain about mins or not playing the yoots. We need Randle and Brunson to lead the charge.

I will be looking closely at thibs, especially his in game adjustments. I believe that will be the key to us getting out of the first round. Thibs will get this team ready from the start. But how will Thibs adjust during the playoff game series?

The make up of the team calls more for a natural forward with size and length. But of course not a finesse one like Reddish.

Problem is Grimes and Hart create really small wing rotation and even smaller when IQ lines up at SG with either of them. Hart has dog in him and plays bigger than his size. But would be more ideal to keep Hart's production especially his rebounding at SG. Swapping Grimes for a bigger, longer, stronger forward would then flip that into imposing size on the wing.

I think the point confusing me is why that player has to replace Grimes on the roster. Grimes is team and cost controlled with upside. No reason to divest of him.

3 pt shooting will still be premium on any NBA team and particularly this team. Grimes still has potential to be a potent three point threat.

Do you want to give Grimes's minutes to a player that's bigger, longer, stronger, and is ALSO a potent 3pt threat?

I'm down.

I saw this issue with Hart, when matched up against a longer SF or quicker PG. Same with Grimes. Seems like SG is the best position for both players, eventhough I agree that Hart plays bigger than his size. And maybe my issue is Hart vs Tatum which isn't a fair assessment since nobody can really shut down Tatum but himself.

I was hoping RJ could be that SF wing (Butler type player) that completes the starting unit. But having a Hart type player at SF (instead of RJ) and Hart at SG, could make the paint a little crowded. Again, this is all long term thinking (obviously what we have is what we will bring into the playoffs) But Hart is special and I don't see a similar version of him in the league right now, with his combination of basketball smarts, quickness, speed and instincts.

Is it better to develop RJ into that playmaking 3&D SF? I missed the game, but sounds like RJ was solid and had 3 blocks which is key. I'm hoping Josh Hart's energy and leadership will force others to step up on the defensive end. So maybe we already have that player. Thats why I said earlier, it's tricky with this team. Brunson goes down and we instantly look like a lotto team? Seems like if we lose a certain player, it's a major impact to this team. I'm glad Brunson is resting, which is great timing. Only the healthy will survive these playoffs.

Even if RJ developed into that. Would still be the better play to swap Grimes with a bigger forward type. G mins are will accounted for. Not even counting the possibility that someone like Rokus could possibly be back end depth down the line at G. What the team needs is a quality SF/PF. We don't have that on the roster at this moment. And if we did add that, odds are Grimes the one whose mins will get taken regardless. With RJ, Randle and Grimes quality player at Forward instead of G. Our Guard rotation and Forward rotation would be pretty strong.

And Frank was still in the league last year! Crazy he is just to turn 25!!!! Nearly 6 mos YOUNGER THAN OBI!!!

I know deuce was NOT a 8th pick in the draft but the sentiment is similar. Looking for reasons to root him on.
I find it hard to believe he has grown to 6-6 but that would be cool. Would make sense why his shot is inconsistant!

My dream plan is IQ surges in value via trade market and Deuce is next up and a better fit. Not a knock on IQ at all.

It’s an interesting balance we need to manage. Can’t have too many high volume shooters and can’t have too many non-shooters. Personally I didnt like how hart and deuce looked on offense together. Unless they are surrounded by 3 shooters and not RJ and Mitch. Can’t have 4 non-shooters on the floor at the same time and wonder why our offense is stagnant. Need a coach who recognizes this and he’s not slow to resolve it or change it up.

So having IQ or picking up a free agent who can shoot is a need. Meanwhile deuce will continue to sharpen up his jumper while his defense will improve with age. For the money right now deuce is a steal until his rookie contract expires then what?

Something needs to change before the start of the season. I always said either RJ or Jules has to go unless one of them (probably RJ) continues to get yanked in and out of different lineups like last year to keep that balance of shooters and defenders.

But deuce is a top 5 defensive PG in the entire nba and he’s on a very cheap salary for what he brings to the court. You can literally put him on any superstar at the PG spot. Not even josh hart can do that. He struggled against small shifty guards. Hart is more the SG-PF range on defense. But deuce defense is a problem most PGs don’t want.
