Is Chauncey Billups officially in the Tim Duncan club of "leadership, high IQ but grossly underappreciated"?

How is Duncan underappreciated? Pretty much everybody calls him one of the best players of his era and one of the greatest power forwards ever. he's just an exceptionally boring person.

Fully agree with you. I think the whole "intensity" thing is a bit of a farce as well. Just because Duncan isn't out there jumping around and yelling doesn't mean he's not as intense. Duncan is a cerebral assassin and carried the Spurs to 4 titles, guys like Parker and Ginobbli wouldn't be near the same players without them.

IMO he's just a good all-star who's always had borderline all-star hall-of-fame teammates. He was always a notch below KG--he couldn't do half the variety of things KG in his prime could--but KG had an NBDL level squad most of his career.

this statement is rivaled in hilarity only by the Marbury is better than Nash contingent back in 05.

Parker and Gino just recently became all-stars. Afte Shaq no big man has been as dominant as Tim this past decade.

I wish someone had footage of TD in gm 7 of the 05 finals and you'd see more grit and guts displayed by TD in the 4th qtr on both sides of the ball than all of KG's postseason performaces combined.

as for KG, what pf of note did he face last years title run that he had to exert himself?

Duncan has faced and bested Shaq, Dirk, Stat, Malone, KG, the Wallaces on his way to 4 titles. Over the past decade San An has won 50 plus games and has had a teammate average 17 or more a game 4 times in 10 yrs and only 1 of those title teams Parker in 07.
Parker and Ginobili have played in four all-star games and had other all-star level seasons. And David Robinson had about a dozen all star seasons. Is it hilarious to call David Robinson and all-star/potential hall-of-famer?
You exert yourself by playing your heart out regardless of who you're matched up against, although Pau (KG's Finals opponent) is no joke anyway. Much of defense for a big involves help defense. Also, often in those classic PF matchups, the two don't even guard each other because the team's don't want their key PF getting in foul trouble. What does averaging 17 or more have to do with anything?

You've got two conclusions that don't make any sense to me:
(a) You exert yourself only when you're matched up against a big time PF;
(b) Averaging 17 PPG is an important cut-off for evaluating teammates

Duncan is about as underappreciated as Scott Layden and Isiah Thomas were overappreciated.

i like intensity in a player but KG takes it way overboard... it strikes me as more attention whoreage... no one's gonna tell me Barry Sanders or Walter Payton weren't both intense competitors but u didn't see those guys w/all the Look at Me theatrics after every play... Jordan had his theatrical moments too in the heat of competition but taunting the other team when you're in street clothes on the bench is ridiculous.

* Robinson was on the downside of his career when Duncan came along.

* Duncan had led the Spurs to two titles and 4 50 plus win seasons and however many they won during the strike shortened season by the time Ginobli and Parker became all-stars.

* My point about ppg is that there wasn't anyone there to really take pressure of of him. Duncan for the most part was the Spurs offense. KG has never had to carry a group that was overall as inept at scoring that TD did.

* Finally, Pop always put Duncan on the opposing teams star big.

Congrats to the Hawks for advancing. Sad to see the C's advance over Chitcago.

A bit late here but this is what I would have wanted to, and still want to, see transpire....(later rounds still possible)

Pistons over Cavs
Bulls over Celtics (but I do like the C's all the same)
Magic over Sixers
Hawks over Heat

Then I guess Hawks beating Pistons and Magic beating Bulls - with the Magic going to the Finals.

...

Lakers over Jazz
Nuggets over Hornets
Mavs over Spurs
Blazers over Rockets

Then I guess Blazers over Lakers and Nuggets over Mavs with the Nuggets going to the Finals.

And the Magic taking down the Nuggets in the Finals.

I think I got the brackets right....

Hard to imagine anyone on Miami getting shots other than Wade and Beasley next season- between them, these two are going to have a FGA/game of about 40-45 next year.

Wade has continued to proven that he is:

*A prima-donna who milks injuries for the camera.
*Got calls in 06 that no player has ever gotten and has never recovered from not continuing to get those 20+FTAs a game.
*Is a gunner who does not trust teammates nor make them better.

Honestly, no thanks to this NBA invented fraud.

He's a good player, a very solid player, but he is so blown out of proportion by the league and his cult following. I never did get it and never will with this guy.

Thankfully his red carpet got revoked this playoffs.

I second this Emotion. He proved that mistrust thing yesterday in that horrible loss to DA MAN, JOE JOHNSON!

lol its still a team game and they lost to a much better one

hell it can be argued that Heat team had no business making the play-offs and Wade got them the 5th seed and took Atl to 7 games.

you go pos by pos and bench vs bench and Wade v Joe Johnson is the only matchup Miami had an advantage.

Hordford >>> O neal

Smith >>> Beasley

Marvin didn't play or it'd be edge Atl at sf. Evans and James Johnson or Moon, if he'd played, is a wash

Bibby >>> Chalmers

Wade >>> Joe Johnson

Atl bench >>> Mia bench

Wade is definitelyhttp://ultimateknicks.com/forum/post.asp?method=ReplyQuote&r=621689&t=30861&page=19 the 3rd best player in the NBA.

1. lebron

2. kobe

3. dwyane

i could live with that.

What happen to Tiny Tim D?

He's getting old, man.

agreed. imo timmy is the 2nd greatest power forward to ever play. but age has caught up to him and he's not playing at that level at this point.

I agree. Dhoward is no where close to these 3 guys.

He still lacks focus, he's not clutch at all, and he has no killer instinct.

Even though, it was just a first round series, the NBA should consider a DVD release of the Boston/Chicago series.

Great, great stuff.

wow. lol at this post.

dwade handed out 7.5 assists per game this year. think his teammates thought he was "a gunner who does not trust teammates nor make them better?" oh and "gunned" at the rate of 49.1% field goals

he grabbed 5 boards per game, picked off 2.2 steals and blocked 1.3 shots per game. think his teammates thought he was "a prima-donna"?

led the team from 15 wins when he was injured to 43 this year - he played 79 - and took atlanta to 7.

you might want to rewatch the '06 finals sometime.
