The Houston pick is around 23 right now. It will settle in the low to mid 20's.

Allow me to imagine for a sec...

Taft-Kennedy Winston or Fransisco Garcia, Channing Frye and Nate Robinson...all out of 1 draft. That would be nice...A future frontcourt star, a shooter, a backup center with good talent, and a sparkplug backup PG in one draft.

How can you guys like these trades? You act like Suns,Rockets and Spurs picks will be such great spots. They'll get fringe 1st rounders. Big deal. Draft picks are overrated when you have no centers, undersized pf's,no cap room and no chance of winning with this group of misfits.

Knicks are screwed for years.
The Rockets are barely holding on to the 7th seed in the west. Their pick should be, at worst, mid first round and possibly even a lottery pick if LA and Minnesota can pass them in the standings. Let's start rooting for Kobe and Garnett to play like MVPs

Solace: I like the deals, even though this guarantees we're not getting under the cap until the year after Allan Houston expires.
You and I are both in our mid 20s. If we both live to be 100, I still don't think we'll ever see the Knicks be under the cap.

The only player worth while that we gave up is Nazr. In return, we got some bad contracts, but we also got 3 first round picks. Can we find another steal in the draft? Can we package some picks and trade up? Who knows, but I definately am happy with the trades.

And I was just listening to ESPN radio, they said we got a 1st round pick from the Spurs for this year, and the other pick is for next year.

That Spurs trade is horrible. It is absolutely horrible!! Malik isnt even that good!! Who will play center now? KT? We really didnt need to make the San Antonio trade.

MX25, you miss the big picture. Let me break it down for you.

First, let's say this year we finish with a terrible record and get a #6 pick. Next year we're bad again and get a #8. With me so far?

Now we trade Nazr and Brewer for Rose, the Suns 2005 first rounder (approx. #29 overall pick) and the Spurs 2006 first rounder (approx. #30 overall).

We trade Vin and Moochie for Taylor and the Rockets first rounder (approx. #20 overall).

So, pick-wise we have the following:
2005 Knicks pick (#6)
2005 Rockets pick (#20)
2005 Suns pick (#29)
2006 Knicks pick (#8)
2006 Spurs pick (#30)

Now then, between 2006 and 2015, we owe the Suns a pick to complete the Marbury trade. Well, in 2006 we now have the Spurs pick, likely the last pick of the first round. Now we use the Spurs pick to complete the Marbury trade. Done. The alternative is waiting a while to give the Suns their pick or using a pick we didn't want to give up. That's HUGE!

That leaves us with:
2005 Knicks pick (#6)
2005 Rockets pick (#20)
2005 Suns pick (#29)
2006 Knicks pick (#8)

Next, we can package picks together to move up in the draft OR package picks together with expiring contracts at the draft to get a superstar, if one becomes available. These are just possibilities.

Let's say we move up:

We could package #6 + #20 + #29 and get in the top three for a team looking to trade with us. Then we get a top 3 pick this year and the #8 next year.

Those are just a few scenarios for you. Yes, we're strapped down with bad contracts. What else is new? At least we're trying to push some youth in there to counteract this.

Also, I'm convinced Isiah will buy out Malik Rose, so that could be a big factor.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

The SA trade is for a #1 this year and a #1 next year. Stehohen A Smith is on and says Rose is a good team guy.

MoT has talent but is always hurt.

Obviously KT slides to the 5 now. Sweetney starts at 4 and Rose and Mot get time at 3/4.

The other thing is NY opens up ROSTER space. They now only have 12 guys under contract. Ith H20 on the IL, I think they will sign a 10 day or two. What this allows is to send a high priced player for multiple low salary players (read young).

I can deal with the extra $$, NY will NEVER be under the CAP. You have to be creative or so says IT.

Rockets are actually the 6th seed, 1.5 ahead of Memphis, 2.5 ahead of the Lakers, 4.5 ahead of Minnesota and 6.5 ahead of Denver. They are pretty solidly in the playoffs and will likely yield us a low 20'3 to mid 20's pick as long as TMac or Yao don't get hurt.

no mention of first round pick from houston.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Knicks agreed to two deals before Thursday's NBA trading deadline to acquire Malik Rose and two No. 1 picks from San Antonio and forward Maurice Taylor from Houston.

Both deals were awaiting league approval one hour after the NBA's 3 p.m. EST trade deadline and hadn't yet been finalized.

The Knicks would send starting center Nazr Mohammed and backup point guard Jamison Brewer to the Spurs for Rose and the two picks -- a first-round choice in 2005 that originally belonged to Phoenix, and San Antonio's No. 1 pick in 2006.

In the Taylor trade, Houston would get backup center Vin Baker and point guard Moochie Norris.

The moves appeared to be a sign that Knicks president Isiah Thomas was placing a greater emphasis on rebuilding through the draft.

New York would have its own No. 1 and the Suns' first-round pick this June, and the 2006 pick from the Spurs would put the Knicks back into the first-round of that draft. Thomas traded the Knicks' own 2006 first-round pick to Phoenix as part of the Stephon Marbury deal.

That sucks if we don't get Houston's pick, I mean seriously if we don't get their first rounder I question why we did that deal.

That changes a lot of things. That suddenly makes the SA trade a good trade. I was worried because we give up Nazr who is better than Malik and take back more money in his salary. If we are getting their 1st rd picks for 2 straight years, this is a decent trade.

I have very mixed feelings about this trade.Cant be unhappy about the draft picks but will it be worth taking on more baggage?

Right now its hard to guage whether this is a good deal or not because there are so many variables.

Isiah might try to trade up picks or package them in a deal or take them and try develop talent. He is all over the map with these deals, taking on larger contracts and getting picks.

We dont know how this deal will affect the final standings this season.Maybe they squeek into the playoffs, then we lose a possible high pick and are left with lower ones in what is not considered a very strong draft. Those picks might get us some real talent and Isiah does have an eye for it.

All I know is that this deal can go bad in so many ways and Isiah could have been more patient and gotten more rewards with less risk.
The plot thickens.....

I'm thinking the AP just missed the first rounder on the Taylor trade. Dude is making 9 million per year till 2007...no way we made that deal just to get Taylor (especially with our PF situation).

No no, we definately got a 1st rd pick from houston.

The Knicks also traded Vin Baker and Moochie Norris to the Rockets for Maurice Taylor and a first-round pick, Ford reports.

If this is accurate will it have been worth getting low first round picks for this much more in future salary?

New York Knicks-San Antonio Spurs-Houston Rockets: The Knicks are in the process of adding more big salaries to their roster.

Two league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford that New York has traded Nazr Mohammed and Jamison Brewer to the Spurs for Malik Rose and a first-round pick.

Taylor

Rose

The Knicks also traded Vin Baker and Moochie Norris to the Rockets for Maurice Taylor and a first-round pick, Ford reports.

Once again, team president Isiah Thomas is willing to take back huge contracts to get more talent. In the Spurs deal, the Knicks are sending back $5.5 million in future salaries for the remaining four years, $27.3 million of Rose's contract.

In the Rockets deal, Thomas is sending back $8 million in future salaries and getting back $18 million in return. In total, the Knicks, who have the largest payroll in the league, will add an extra $32 million in future salaries.

For the Rockets, this trade was a salary dump and an effort to shore up a thin point-guard crop.

For the Spurs, not only did the clear $21 million in long term salary, they got another legit center in Mohammed – something the team felt the desperately needed.

it looks like we didn't get a pick in the Rockets deal from what I'm hearing...
