I'm sorry, was that Sheed on the sidelines during those highlights?!

Knicks essentially traded Huk for Andre and have 7 months to upgrade that position if they want

Jalen, KAT and Diawara shot 37% during the regular season.

I’m sure they are all in the same class. Somehow.

LOL. I'm sure Drummond can juke his man, pump fake, dribble step back into a 3 and swish!

He did 35%+ in 1.4 attempts/game. I'm encouraged. He will take an open 3 and sort of even out the floor. We can optimize his FG% percentage near the basket by having him kick the ball out when the basket isn't a sure thing. And while we won't be totally giddy with glee if he's fouled (at least relative to KAT), we also won't put our hands together in prayer quite the same way we did with Mitch.

Nice note about the delta between his actual salary vs the cap hit.

Drummond just turned 32 and instantly becomes our oldest player.

I like Valanciunas, but I'd probably prefer Guerschon Yabusele. :) We owe that man like nobody's business.

Interestingly enough he has that 3 point shot and he can pass pretty well for a center. Could totally spell Towns for 15-20 mins a game. I do not hate this at all, actually

Philly let him walks and signed Hukporti. They might disagree with your first sentence

It's like what someone was saying earlier. Mitch is very one dimensional but elite at it. And we could get someone who isn't quite as amazing at one thing but makes up for it in other areas

True. But Drummond is awful at defense.

Am I the only one that would straight up rather have Valanciunis?
I hope we get both.

This is a good pickup for now. He will eat the backup minutes for the season. We can always addressed the situation again around the trade deadline. But for now, this is very adequate. And if Valenciunas pops up, he’s another good option. I wouldn’t be surprised if Looney eventually gets picked up too. We are just replacing Mitch in the aggregate with guys who aren’t as good as Mitch but are much better than Hukporti.

And he from Mount Vernon NY, grew up a Knicks fan. Another local guy.

Still could use another PF/C. But Jonas V would be amazing

I mean, it’s better than the Yabusele signing last year.

All vet mins count against cap as the 2nd year rate for any player with more than 2 years experience. I think the NBA even pays the difference but I’m not sure on that.

It’s a good rule so teams don’t avoid signing vets because their minimums are higher than young guys.

Drummond has some good passing instincts. Hopefully it's indicative of the Knicks leaning into those KAT passing out of the high post sets that worked so well in the playoffs.

It’s probably like 10% cost - with passing and 3point shooting and screening - but not the 3point switch ability but that’s it?

Drummond does not even shoot 3s. I don’t know where people are getting that from. He shot a 3 every other game last season and before that… never for a long time.

With Towns emergence into a legit two way force, Mitch’s role became so small. I think double big lineups went out the window a long time ago. Towns’ backup is a small role going forward just like it was in the playoffs. Two vet mins like Drummond and JV gives us depth and insurance and two guys more than capable of playing the 13-15mpg role at a high level.

I stand corrected. Last season he shot 1.4 a game at a fine enough clip but before that… rarely. I would hardly sign him for his shooting.

I think it is. Both Drummond and JV seem more like Towns style hubs than the ying/yang with Mitch.

The Knicks signed Andre Drummond for 1 year, 3.9 million bucks.
