Man this kid jack Kayil is a killer man . Just watched a bunch of his tape. He has limitless range like Steph curry range … this kid could very well be the steal of this draft . Watching him vs grown men, it’s easy to see why someone stated if he goes to Gonzaga he will be a lottery pick…

Can score at all three levels, and has great vision. Goes at his own pace he’s not a burner but plays under control and takes what the defense gives him . He’s a big PG that can play the 2 . Will more than likely play the 2 in the nba but can bring the ball up and be a secondary ball handler.

This kid is definitely worth getting excited about . He’s young and a winner . Always at the right place at the right time.

Im excited about Nickel as well he will definitely get minutes, but dont sleep on the German . This kid can ball, run an offense and score anywhere and I mean anywhere he’s got curry range. And is a plus defender.

When you watch him, after a few games your like how is this kid not a first round pick by the end your like how was this kid not a top 10 pick.

Mark my words jack kayil will get minutes this year . And not just get min he will have an impact with this team.

See your quote in 2027

I want to believe so I hope you're right

Was a little puzzled by some commentary that he is a jack of all trades, master of none. He's 20 years old, so I don't expect mastery yet, but from the tape I looked at you can see the ability may already be at production level in some facets of the game

This is what I think may happen though. The Knicks do bring players along on a schedule.

I expect Kolek to get his turn this year and they may bring Jack over from Germany this year or next year, but he would probably get his initial minutes in Westchester. That is the Knicks playbook typically, so unless Jack blows peoples' minds in Vegas I'd expect him to be given some time to develop.

Nickel should be in the rotation this year though unless he lays an egg in Vegas.

I could see that happening, Kolek definitely deserves to shine . Especially if Jose opts out .

I’m looking at jack as more of a 2 who can also be a 1 but he has the size and the quickness of a 2

I think he struggles to keep fast 1’s in front of him . Like you said the kid is 20, but really shows the ability to score at all 3 levels .

As of now until more domino’s fall our bench is

Kolek
McBride
Mo
PAC
Blank

Kinda scary

PAC needs to show something he really hasn’t shown anything so that in a rotation makes me nervous and I can see mo sliding to the 4 and nickel getting minutes do to his elite shooting .

I could also see us trading McBride for a big if Mitch walks or maybe getting Robert Williams on a vet min

If we trade McBride knowing he’s in for a payday that we can not support that opens the door for jack to get mins .

And like you said we will see how summer league plays out .

I just have a feeling that jack will be the talk of the town when he shows out at summer league .

If Dolan is for real about the second apron then we really are about to rebuild our bench and it’s going to be interesting.

Could see

Kolek
Jack
Nickel
Mo
Huk or Robert Williams?

Excited to see

Jack
Nickel
Mo
?
? Trey?

In summer league .

If we aren’t allowed to get into the second apron our bench really is up in the air.

It doesn't happen too often, but sometimes a player does blow people away in Vegas and changes a club's timeline for them.

Let's see what happens. Curious what our SL roster will be

Its possible Alvarado opts in and Shamet is retained since rumblings are that Mitch may be out.

Kayil and Nickel will have to compete with Kolek, Alvarado, Shamet, McCullar & Deuce/Dadiet if they aren't moved.

If Alvarado & Shamet both end up being out. Knicks will 100% sign vet min vet G & Wing to replace them going into the season. Regardless of what, its up to them to force the coaches hand to play them.

Lot of good stuff here. I really like this pick too. My number one question is can he do enough on defense. I like the brogdon mention someone made and I also like Derrick white at least for offense.

He seems very articulate and bright especially for his age. Great sign. Hopefully he’s a sponge like Mo supposedly is

If we do lose Mitch would love TimeLord but not sure how that happens.

If I had to make a guess, Jack Kayil & Tyler Nickel will be pure developmental (and low cap signings for the roster spots) for at least a year. Relatively speaking, Mo went bonkers for a second rounder - as well as Kolek - and barely did anything after the trade deadline. And both played only because of injuries.

Maybe Knickel has less to shore up for his role, but I wouldn't bet on seeing those guys outside of GLeague and Summer League play.

I'll disagree with you on Nickel.

He's a 4 year college player at 23, not a 20 year old Euro kid.

He was picked for his ready-made perimeter shooting which has been 40% or better for 3 straight years.

There are other aspects of his game to develop, but as an elite off-the-ball mover, cutter and shooter with a quick, pure release, he should be ready to rock and roll.

His prototype matches how Shamet would come in off the bench and immediately start draining shots. It can alter game momentum with just two made threes. That's his jam as a Knick. That's why I called him Steve Novak with defense.

Nickel's offensive game is patterned exactly for this role. He has been cited for superb off the ball court sense which is what the most elite snipers are good at: Finding that crevice to locate themselves to receive the quick pass and take the shot with a quick release.

He has a mature frame and can be coached up on defensive footwork and ball handling. The role he's hired for requires his off-the-ball movement skills anyway.

If he is not ready to step in and play a role now he likely never will be.

That's why I said unless he flops in Vegas, he's in the rotation this year.

He's definitely a Shamet replacement IMO.

It'll be based on who is above him and what injuries the Knicks have and how fast he gets acclimated to the NBA. Those are all unknowns as of right now. He is ready made for the next step but the next step may not be there for him.

If Deuce, Shamet, Dadiet are on roster and all more ready, he won't get minutes. It's just a minutes thing.

If he was as ready made as you indicate, then a ton of NBA teams just made a mistake on him.

I’m curious to see what kind of contracts these guys sign. That should give us a hint what we are projecting their roles to be. The complete silence on resigning our own FA’s makes the entire picture on our roster construction a little fuzzy. Free agency starts next week. I guess we all need to take a breath and wait for the plan to unfold

Good summary. I'd add in McCullar. I'm kinda excited to see how this all plays out. Knicks actually seem to have a developmental pipeline for the role players on team.

#Knicks quietly built an exciting group of youngsters, who'll be ready to contribute as early as next season.

Mohamed Diawara | 6'9 | Wing / Forward

By far the most exciting, adding a 2nd, 3 & D wing to O.G., who's 6'9 & explosive athleticism, is going to be nightmare fuel for opponents.

If anyone is going to push Josh Hart into the 6th man role, it will be this kid.

Tyler Kolek | 6'2 | Combo Guard

Arguably the most polished, high-upside shooter, who can also get to the rim, & can provide solid minutes at either guard spot.

Tyler Nickel | 6'8 | Wing/Forward

He reminds of a more aggressive version of Robert Horry, & should contribute quality minutes as a rotation player at some point next season.

Jack Kayil | 6'5 | Combo Guard

Miight have the highest ceiling of anyone outside Diawara. Versatile offensive tools, shot-creator, 3-level scorer. He will need time to develop, but the upside will be worth waiting for.

Pacome Dadiet | 6'8 | Wing/Forward

Another 3 & D Wing, versatile skill set, does a lot of things well enough to provide quality minutes as a rotational player at multiple positions. Just needs to continue building confidence & fine-tune his skills.

Would be a blessing, but not something that should be counted on out the gate. Even as a 4 year college player, could still take him 2 years to hit his stride.

Sam Merrill 4 year college player, 18mins per game starting year 4.
Dean Wade 4 year college player, 19mins per game year 2.
Duncan Robinson 3 year college player, 29mins per game year 2.
Sam Hauser 4 year college player, 16mins per game year 2.

I tend to agree but it depends on if they keep Shamet. If they don’t, I think they would probably bring Nickel up to main team because of his age and unique skill set. He has been training for 4 years to just run off screens and catch and shoot, which is all he will be expected to do here (other than play solid defense). I could see them giving him some minutes this year like they did Mo last year but if they resign Shamet, then it becomes less likely.

we have the luxury of enough depth that guys will have to earn their minutes, and the fortune of a coach who will let the bench play when deserving so they can contribute throughout the year and playoffs.

Seeing how Shamet would come in off the bench and immediately start draining shots, Nickel's offensive game is patterned exactly for this role. He has been cited for superb off the ball court sense which is what the most elite snipers are good at: Finding that crevice to locate themselves to receive the quick pass and quick release.

It can alter game momentum with just two made threes. That's his jam as a Knick.

He has a mature frame and can be coached up on defensive footwork and ball handling.

Other teams passed on Mo, so ...........

Sure, I think that is perfectly reasonable to expect im most situations in terms of minutes played.

I was differing with Martin on whether he'll get a clear shot at being a rotation player this year.

I think he will and his off-ball and shooting skills are ready to go. The rest of his game will benefit from experience and coaching.

Yes, I'm assuming he is Shamet's replacement.

And I think his role is more specific than Mo's will be and that makes him quicker and easier to slot into the lineup.

A specialist just has to execute at a high level at their designated skill to get minutes.

He's white??
This why your panties got in a bunch just now? You got over emotional over KVH as well hmmm.

I considered your deep and profound thoughts from your reply, and nothing has changed. We probably shouldn't expect major contributions from a 2nd round pick his rookie season on a championship contending team.

But still would be a blessing if so!!
