Hack-a-mitch is so stupid. It puts the other team in the penalty. I say leave Mitch in and let them give us fouls. This will only help our other players. In the 4th quarter you take him out when they do it.
yes, BUT they choose the timing strategically so the only one going to the line is Mitch, and then there's not much time after where the rest of the team can exploit it. And we can't get him off the court easily unless we burn a time out. he needs to get his FT% in the high 50s or better
This also means their players now have used their share of fouls. When they had Hack-a-Shack, it worked cause every team had a slew of centers to guard Shaq so they had 18 to 24 fouls between them. Now they will need to have their rotational players foul Mitch. Like I said, stupid.
Before the last two minutes you can have anyone grab him so you use ur guy w fouls to spare or some bench guy. In the last 2 minutes you can foul him if he’s part of the play. Cavs exploited this too by fouling him when he set a screen.
They increased their lead w this so it’s tough to say it doesn’t work or it’s dumb. I hate it as a fan and totally agree it can backfire but if I were a Cavs coach I don’t want Mitch on the floor as he can change a game w his defense and rebounds and this is the best way to get him off the floor.
He needs to hit his FTs
If he's out there earlier in the quarter they aren't going to want to waste fouls like that. It's gonna cost them down the stretch. Mitch obviously has to hit his FTs but, if the game is close you can't have him out there late. We can go double big and then it's just JB/Mikal/OG vs DM/Harden/Wade. Having Mitch behind Brunson if he gets beat on defense helps.
I like the 5 out approach personally. Opens up the floor for everyone. Eliminates the double if we make the shots off the pass, KAT as the HUB is still in play.
Hart is the x factor. Is he taking and hitting open threes to keep the defense honest? That's the only weakness I see in our game right now.
