He was COY his first year in Sac and the team got worse each year. They lost to the 6th seeded Warriors in their only playoff appearance.

Look... bottom line is this is a WIN WIN for Knick fans. We either win a title or are at least in the finals and Leon was right again. Or we flame out in the 1st or 2nd round to the Hawks or Bucks, but the important thing will be we did so with leadership and collaboration.

Collaborating with Rick to let JB take 90% of the shots instead of just 70%.

I'm curious as to who the other candidates for assistant will be and what they bring to the table. Sounds like the FO better have a plan B and C.

I’m pretty sure I got it right and Rick Brunson agrees. That dude holds alot of power with this organization. Now Mike is going to have to collaborate with Rick who he didn’t ever hire on how to utilize his son who just happens to have the ball in his hands 90% of the time. This is not how this is supposed to work. They shouldn’t be allowed to call him a head coach if he isn’t really the head coach

We wont know who is inflencing who until we see how the ball moves next season. The best way to know how much pull Rick has will be where he sits.

It would be a bad look to fire JB's Dad. Rick Brunson has a history with the Knicks that precedes his son. Helped get the Knicks a big discount. He definitely has a seat at the table. Doesnt make him necessarily powerful. It does give him a platform to advocate for his son.

I believe the Knicks FO are smart enough to know when Rick Brunson is putting his kid before the team. And act accordingly. I think this would have been a problem with some past regimes. But Leon has been around the block a few times and Im confident he wont get played.

Leon and Wes did this when Thibs was hired. Make that work with the Brunson connection.

I’ll be cheering for him

I am very grateful for what Thibs did but I think we squeezed all the juice out of that orange. His teams play hard but too often things look more difficult than one expects. I feel he has been exposed more than anything else in playoffs where we have lost to inferior teams (though ironically we also beat better teams).

Speculation on my part but I do wonder whether thibs ignored advice from others, which advice turned out to be good

Mike Brown was the coach of the number 1 defenive team inn the league in 2009 and on the opposite end, was the coach of the number 1 offensive team in the league in 2023! He coached next to Pops, Carlilse, and Kerr. Was the head coach of a team that went to the finals, and was the associate head coach of a team that won 3 chips. His playoff and regular season winning % is better than thibs. This is a good hire, considering....

For those wondering and asking well, why was he fired in Sacramento? Same reason Thibs was fired, and Malone was fired, and Vogel was fired, and Bud, etc....Coaches are hired to be fired. And typically, the press release has something to do with coach and front office not being on the same page....
