Something to be said about that also. Especially when you sign an undrafted kid. Agents need to take care of there kids and Knicks have a good record of doing so with low picks and underrated. They get a legit chance in most cases. I would appear they are upfront with it and what they expect. Now if a kid does not agree with the Thibian way then its best to not enter. In the end we got Obi paid and on a team that utilizes his talents well.
"Who you know". Thibs was an assistant under rivers win Boston and maybe still tight. Maybe that came to play? Wisconsin does not have legal weed.

So the Knicks basically traded Sims for a defensive guard who’s probably slightly better than Shamet, based on what we have seen so far this season.

Yeah and I think that is totally fine. Hukporti has passed Sims, Robinson is coming back, and we need guys who can defend off the bench, especially on ball. Wright probably gonna play the Frank Ntilikina role of 15 seconds at the end of the quarter for defense.

Delon could be useful to throw at Boston or Clev in a long series. Those teams also have good size to them. The Winsgstop nation. If Mitch can defend the rim knicks might be a holy terror on defense at times. If reliable he can help keep Deuce and Payne a bit healthier.

Was thinking this was a Laker overpay but saw stats this AM where last 9 games Williams was avg. 22 and 13 on high % - plus rated in +80% in a # of shot blocking and defensive metrics.

Hopefully he's a dud in LA and not second coming of Andrew Bynum for them.

The Luka deal more so than any deal I've witnessed in my lifetime felt like the league influenced that trade to place Luka in LA at minimum cost.

What is a "Laker overpay"? Is that a thing? I thought the expression was "Laker underpay"?

ITs interesting because they didn't free up the space to bring up Warren or Okeke so they see Wright as a better option. I can see the appeal. A guy who can guard 1s and 2s and create turnovers. Good point of attack D on ballhandlers.

Knicks fans: "We can't defend 3's for our life!"

Knicks trade for someone who is very, very good at defense.

Knicks fans: "Why would we make this trade? It makes no sense!"

Also, he averaged 37% from 3 a year ago, and being around great defenders during practice rubs on the regular players. This is a smart move.

This year he is shooting 26/25% and 50% from the charity stripe which should make him a team worst.?It’s hard to hide that on offense. Our 2nd unit already has trouble scoring. It’s not really worth arguing over a player who will ride the bench or be waived.

Thibs seems to get the best out of exactly these types of players. Let's hope he has that type of transformation that Josh Hart did when coming over from Portland, or something close to even average would be AOK.

Something to be said for acquiring players who fit your style and mentality and what the coach wants. He also has played everywhere so he's played with OG, Brunson and others so there's maybe even some built in chemistry. We seem to have valued in our vet min role players prior relationships/chemistry with our core players.

known entity

guards the perimeter

and don't discount the value of a good defender/high energy for practices

minor move but i like it.

also as someone mentioned above, i think part of the deal was a favor to Sims and to get some cred with agents and the like

Id guess that other teams probably try to do the same but it seems very prominent with the Knicks. Even the way they handled Shamet and his injury too.

Shamet window might have closed.
I don't want to see D'andre Hunter in a Clev Car uni. The dude can light it up.
Is Deuce expendable? Fan Fav.......Not advocating. Just axing.
3 hours to go. Perhaps things will makes sense if we make a nonsensical trade?
Is it me or do a lot of the deals seem like overpays to knick fans? Me included. Inflation everywhere.
Does Mikal Bridges still look like an over pay given we stiffing Boston int he standings and our homestead vs. the better of the west been going well?
Mark Williams is no Andrew Bynum. But he misses a lot of games.
There is a path were Lakers or Dallas can make a run this year on the court. How cool would a Conf. final be between those two?
These picks are being tossed around like a Diddy date in a Gold Club.

I like this trade. Thibs player who can give us defense. We don’t need shooting, scoring. Situational minutes, end of game- him, McBride, OG, Bridges, Hart, Prescious, M Robinson- that is 7 guys to pick from that can give you length and defense/rebounding/tipped balls.

I put zero emphasis on his Bucks shooting this year - odd situation, little playing time and guy is more like a 35% career 3 point shooter.

Agree with original poster sentiment about EVERYONE including ME bitching about our D and yet most are highly disappointed with us getting a guard that defends at a high level.

I have been on getting someone like this for some time --- had mentioned Marcus Smart previously. Wright isn't Smart but Smart also makes +$20M a year and I think is a worse career 3FG shooter.

It comes down to whether Thibs will play the guy and how sold Thibs is on Payne defensively.

If he plays I believe Wright will has a positive impact BUT does he ever play? I don't know.
