But even with an offer that sweet, Knicks have got to be buyers, not sellers. Brunson has revamped this team and shifted us back to the JB/Randle timeline instead of the RJ/Grimes/IQ timeline we wanted a year ago.Unless Spurs have a temporary stroke and decide to send Victor to us, this ain't the year to focus on draft picks IMO.
Yes and No. the timeline for Jalen is 2 years plus a player option for under 25mil. Not going to sweat that as he might or might not continue to outplay his contract.
Randle is the same. his opt in is for 32mil.
The timeline allows for yoot one more year to show its meddle and still compete. There is nothing here that says we are close to really contending but nothing to say we are stepping backwards.
The new world order demands young players on reasonable deals. This we got. A FO that does not overpay. This we got. A top end coach with a very good Top assistant. We got that. An owner who is not afraid to spend. That too!!!!!
No guarantees and no road map at this moment in time.
In Wizardland KP was likley to have been resigned as would have Kuzma. All bets are off there. Tommy Sheppard got the boot and its all wide open.
They have issues.
We are middle of the pack. How middle? Much to determine between now and the start of season as other teams will make moves too.
RE: the bolded - yes, we're a middle of the pack team, but one that's moving upward thanks in no small part to developing our young guys over the last several years. IQ(going on 24)/Grimes(23)/Mitch(25) all took big steps forward. Playoff RJ (23) caught up late. The tree is starting to bear fruit!
The timeline becomes an issue when you take your developed pieces from the young end of the core and replace them with rookies and have to start the development process all over. How long will it take to get the new guys up to par? I see IQ as a pretty central piece on this team, right behind Brunson and Randle. You're inevitably going to take a step back in the short term while Brunson(27 this summer)/Randle (29 in November) close in on, or pass, 30.
I get that 30 is not always the turning point it used to be, but with guys who play as hard and physical as the two of them do, you have to anticipate their apex may come on the earlier end of the spectrum.
