I wouldn't mind if we didn't make a big trade or new free agent signing. Watching these young'uns earn minutes and have career outings is cathartic.
I like the idea of keeping our core together for another year before adding another piece. We're just learning to play together as presently constructed and don't have a good sense of upside yet. With so many young players, there's a tremendous amount of room for improvement with internal growth and improvement.
I see Randle and Brunson as our #1/#2 options. RJ and Quickley currently occupy the #3/#4 options, though on some other teams, they could probably function as #2 scorers on other team. We can keep things flexible depending on match ups.
We assume Hart is going to stay. He's a guy that can be a 4th/5th option that can capitalize on attention given to star players do damage that way. I think what you'd ideally be looking for is a better version of him.
I've become a big fan of Jimmy Butler as of late (as he tears my team apart in a fantasy league with his frequent 10 free throw nights). There are a few issues (his contract and relationship notwithstanding) with him:
1) he been a featured offensive star for so long (and deserves it) - so he won't exactly be plug and play. We'll need to change the way we play to integrate him
2) he has a lot of miles. I think you can guarantee him missing about 20% of the games per season and even then you might find him hobbled for the games he does play.
3) I think playing elite D and getting old do not mix well together. You either get a lot of coasting on effort (picking and choosing moments) and/or you're prone to injury on these quick direction change/reaction plays. Think about Lebron's groin and leg issues over the past few seasons.
Basically, he'd be a gamble.
Any player that is used to being featured on offense may not be so happy here, as we have 4 guys right now who are talented enough to take a lot of shots.
